The Geth was deactivated behind a security shield, hardly a threat. Besides Iwould back Shepard and his entire crew to take out one Geth any day ofthe week. To say his attitude was short sighted is being diplomatic. On the Tali issue her hostility and distrust was directed towards Cerberusnot Jacob, and considering Jacob dosent fully trust Cerberus himself, his attitude was questionable to say the least (Telling a Quarian to say hello to an AI is a smart ass comment). Tali helped save thegalaxy, is a loyal friend of Shepards, and is risking her own life to try and help protect human colonies. A liitle repect wouldn't go a miss !

Geth hacking powers have been shown to be quite impressive, and there is no guarantee that Legion's attempts could have been stopped if he activated before proper firewalls were set up. I consider Jacob's concerns valid.

Also, I'm still not seeing any rudeness on Jacob's part towards Tali. Tali is an engineering expert, and needs to be familiar with the ship's AI if she is to know all the workings of the ship.

Jacob's attitude towards Tali was reasonable, if a little indelicate. I do think that it was not the best way to try and tell Tali about EDI. Heck, even EDI herself  was smart enough not to say anything! I know most of my Shepards all roll their eyes when Jacob says that. I mean, really Jacob? Tali should have been introduced to EDI  a little more diplomatically. But Jacob wasn't being rude, IMHO. Just tactless.

On topic though, I noticed that you have the option to ask both Jack and Samara about Jacob and Miranda. Their thoughts on the two might indicate BW's future plans for Jacob, since I'm sure BW already has a character direction for him. What they say is(and bear in mind that I haven't verified their actual words)

Jack: Jacob doesn't know who he is, but that's not my problem.
Samara: Events will either make hm a great man, or utterly destory him.(this one is a very rough quote)

These quotes seems to indicate that BW knew that Jacob wouldn't be that fascinating of a character. Liara's LI comment in LOTSB "He's stable, and you might need that more than you think in the times ahead" support this.

It occurs to me that they might be trying to 'pull a Garrus' with Jacob. In ME1, I didn't find Garrus all that interesting as a character. I liked him, but he wasn't on the OFF THE SCALE level that he is with me now. What they did with his character in ME2 was unexpected, cool and made with want to explore his story and keep him around more. I could see BW doing something with Jacob that changes out whole perception of him, and turns him into at least a good, if not a great character. I'm just having trouble figuring out what it could be.

Sorry to go off topic here, but I'm surprised by the last part of your post. Isn't Garrus basically the same in ME2 as he was in ME1? He's still a vigilante who prefers to operate outside of law where there are no rules and red tape. Capital punishment is still his preferred form of justice. He does seem a bit more calm and self-assured, and not quite so hotheaded, but I'm not seeing those things as a major development of his character.

Yes, he's still a vigilante, but he's become a leader and a general all-around badass since ME1. In the first game, he was a young idealist who wanted to go out and experience things other than C-Sec, other ways of fighting injustice. And that's what he did in between ME1 and ME2. When you meet him on Omega, he is very much an equal to Shepard in terms of what he has experienced. He's taken a leadership position, lost battles, and felt the harshness of the galaxy. Plus he got some cool scars.

It was brilliant character writing on BW's part. They took a good, if unspectacular chracter(IMHO), and they put him through events that changed him, but they kept the essence of the character there. Garrus's sidequest still focuses on the fine line between justice and vengeance. The chracter is still there, but he's changed, and far more deep and real than in the first game. Less of an archetype(young, idealistic vigalante) and more of his own individual character.

This is the kind of thing I can see BW doing with Jacob. I'm just not sure how they are going to do it.

Gotta still disagree, Shepard is allot more experienced in dealing with Geth then Jacob, he was behind a forcefield and EDI's has firewalls in place. There was little to no risk

I agree with allot of what you say here, maybe rude was the wrong word to use, maybe  insensitive or as you put it indelicate would be more accurate. Reasonable however for me is a stretch. I too was rolling my eyes, and again its something that dosen't exactly endear Jacob to you.

It will be interesting  to see what BW have planned for Jacob allright and I completely agree with the Garrus point. For me there was a huge difference between ME1 Garrus and ME2 Garrus. For starters ME2 Garrus was injected with a s**tload of charisma which he didn't have in ME1
