A moment of silence please for the Collector General after Harbinger released control.

You know this was actualy pretty sad to me. Hes at that control counsil franticly trying to save the base, and then harbringer releases control, and the first time, the General is himself, an then he looks back at flames before realizing there is nothing he can do, he failed. at the same time, hes free

Honestly, the saddest part for me was a few hours into the game, realising that Bioware had managed to make ME2 inferior to the original in relation to depth and immersion. I really didn't care much for any of the crew introduced in ME2 (other than Mordin) and when during the SM, I never actually had to make a sacrifice like in ME1 when you KNEW no matter what, you'd lose a crew member. Jack was almost the exception but I play as femshep almost all the time and after completing her loyalty mission and a few brief dialogues later she only ever tells me to stop p#$$ing around, then I really stopped caring about her too.

ME2 for the most part (Jack and Mordin aside) failed to engage me emotionally and I only hope that the final installment will do something to rectify that.

The moment when I saw Tali get shot in the head. Almost shed a tear, she had almost made it through to the third game.

For a noncontrollable moment, when the Collector General corked it. He went out like a man.

When Kaldarm posted. I teared up.

This necro almost made me cry too. But gamewise, Talitha from ME1 handsdown and Nef from ME2. Its always sadder when its personal and you can see the effects.

Yes, that moment was pretty sad. Forced to hug Liara and leave her in that stupid office instead of sweeping her off her feet with fabled Shepard charm and taking her back to Normandy for ... reminiscing. Thank god we have LotSB now

The suicide mission going horribly wrong, where everybody bites the dust. Viewed it on YouTube and boy, I can still hear Joker say: "You're not doing this to me again Commander!" or something along those lines. Very sad but well mapped out/played out/... whatever you want to call it ending.

This is not only a sad moment for me, but one of my favorite moments in Mass Effect 2 period. And the best part is that It doesn't even involve characters with any names. It takes place on Illium where an Assari and a Salarian are shopping at the "Memories of Illium" station for a gift.

Salarian: What about a fish? She loves the garden. We can add a pond.

Assari: She doesn't need a fish dad.

Salarian: Not a fish. Something that'll last. You'll make sure she keeps it.

Assari: Yeah, I'll make sure.

Salarian: How about this one? When anything goes, it goes to Illium. That's kind of funny.

Assari: Mom will love it.

Salarian: Maybe a shirt, or a card? Illium, hey you're blue shifting already! That's funny, right? Assari skin color in the Doppler effect?

Assari: Dad, just get her anything, or don't.

Salarian: I need to get her something. A memento. Her first mate. Your father. He got her things when he travelled.

Assari: It's not a competition Dad.

Salarian: You don't even really remember him. She found me after he died... and I'm almost 35.

Assari: Hey, I remember him, and I want to remember you. That's why I came on this trip.

Since Mass Effect 2 is my first dive into the Mass Effect universe (Couldn't play the first game since I don't own a PC or XboX), this conversation struck me as a little odd. I knew so far that Salarians didn't really care much for relationships, but this particular one did. I went and did some research on the Salarians and discovered this.

Salarian Entry: Unfortunately, their metabolic speed leaves them with a relatively short lifespan; salarians over the age of 40 are a rarity.

.....40 years. And this Salarian is almost 35. He knows he has very little time left and the one thing he's obsessing over is getting something for his Assari wife, who is a member of a species that can live up to 1,000 years. Something about this moment really touched me. This guy really loves his wife, but is afraid he won't be worth remembering after he dies, since the Assari do take on other mates. He's so scared about being forgotten that out of blind fear, he makes an irrational speculation to his wife's daughter that she has already forgotten her original father. Instead of getting agnry, she reassures him that she does remember her father, and that she wants to remember him as well.

It's situations like this that really adds a lot to a universe you're taking part in. These two un-selectable NPCs with no names who don't even have talking animations have one of the most touching moments in the entire game. You and your squadmates aren't the only things that matter in this universe. These people do as well. They want to be happy, they want others to be happy, they want to be worthy of being remembered, and they'll work hard to achieve it.

It was a little heartwarming when miranda met her sister for the first time (given if your shepard gave miranda some incentive).

During thane's recruitment mission, the salarian that was shot by the mechs and was lying there with pain in his voice... Felt a good amount of sympathy for the guy.

I'll jump on the Overlord bandwagon and also the last few seconds of the collector general.

^That.

I didn't have the misfortune of crying over someone dying on the suicide mission. Because I actually paid attention during the briefing.

Saddest moment...

It's a tough call.

The only time I have ever cried during the mass effect series would have to be This

Also, I would like to make mention of the SM 'Woman getting turned into goo' scene. Watching that scene always sends a dark chill running down my spine...
