1. Much much more XP
2. Much much less hassle
3. If you do the right dialogue you can get Isolde to kill him - no approval loss from party members
4. you get the vault key from the chamberlain - xp and loot.

In my opinion, it's much better to kill Connor than go into the Fade.

But with high Coersion, a Mage Warden gains a free tome good for an added spell. And the vault is good for 50 xp per lockpick visit.

The Vault is in the upper flloor of the Castle (near the Arl's chambers). It has several lootable containers. You can get the key from the chamberlain (in a small room at the main floor near where the armors attack you). You can only loot the vault before you deal with Connor.mondotomhead wrote...
I've played through Redcliff more than a dozen times. Who is the Chamberlain and what vault are you all talking about?

Like I said I've played this game many times and I continue to find out different things every time I play.

This is untrue. You can pick the vault (see my post above...it is very, very hard but possible esp for a Cunning Dagger-rogue) even after you've dealt with Conner one way or the other. What you can not do is loot the Vault after you awaken Arl Eamon (I think).

Sorry, if the latter part was ambiguous - to me you only conclude the Connor questline when you awaken Eamon.

I tried doing it this way this time. I killed the chamberlain (I've never been able to open that particular door before) and worked my way upstairs looting the whole way. I literally ran into Connor and had the massive fight with him. After I defeated Connor Isolde showed up and was wailing so pitifully to save Connor I almost reloaded. It was truly awful her begging for his life! Then she pulled out a knife and killed him herself. I had to stop playing for a little while to decide what to do but I continued on. At camp Alistair made me feel even worse and lost 7 approval points with him. Since I've never played that particular senario I just left things as they were. But, YIKES, that was painful!
lol is the murder weapon standard issue in Ferelden?

Not going into the fade because it's more experience point? Where's the Role Playing factor there huh? Each their own game of course, but I usually try to choose the "right thing" as much as possible. And I actually felt good about chosing for the child's life ... I mean, saving him.
I always feel compelled to play the good guy as well. But what I like about DA is there are many gray areas just like real life. It is reasonable to conclude that many more people could die by letting the kid live. While you're off gathering support from the circle how many more demons can he summon? How many more innocent villiagers might pay the price?
Alternatively you can sacrifice his mother using blood magic but then that's another gray area in itself. Many times there is no wrong answer, so the question is left to... what would you do in that situation?
