Lack of story?

Well, yes.  It's written in the module description I found on the nwvault.  I'm not throwing any pies here.

You honestly have to play it to believe it. I alpha tested it and it was, by far, the single most entertaining cRPG module I have played in a long, LONG time. There is a story, but you're not tied to it. It was originally a Greyhawk adventure, but it's been adapted to fit into Faerun and the FR.

Trust me, there's a story there, several in fact, but the open ended nature of it and the plethora of sidequests will give you a better basis for understanding the "Lack of story" comment. And I like story centric play, personally.

Now to address a few other comments in the thread that do bear on future releases of anything official from the Powers That Be:

NWO They clearly say how Atari/Cryptic are in "direct talks" with WotC over how to do and prepare certain aspects of NWO to "be" 4.0 without it being PnP compatible. That's awfully hard to do with a lawsuit hanging over everyone's heads and still be working directly with the group that a) you are suing and B) the group that is suing you. This tells me that the lawsuit may either be cancelled *(with no-one the wiser outside the companies at this point) or simply agreed to be put on hold, pending the release of this game (which was actually rumored to be in production prior to the activation of the lawsuit) and Hasbro giving Atari enough rope to either free itself or hang itself.

I have sent messages to Hasbro, WotC and Atari just asking if the lawsuit was still in full force and effect without asking for any other details and have heard nothing in response from any party -- which isn't surprising, but I had hoped.

Patch 1.24 It was definitely being worked on and it was, to the best of my knowledge, pretty close to being 'done' with the major bug fixes that had been continuing to plague the game and it's Community, and were considering what other bug fixes and/or new features they might be able to add (though nothing major, was explicitly expressed, was on the block.)

Community Lots of new stuff is just coming out or is in post production phase after serious and thorough playtesting over the last few months.

Legacy of White Plume Mountain being recently released is definitely well worth your playing time.

Misery Stone is also a great module and is a different flavor for most who have little to no experience with anything RavenLoft.

The Wizard's Apprentice is a fun and fast romp with a focus on being a wizard in training.

Path of Evil is just released as a candidate for serious testing and should provide a more evil way to play.

Ice Wind Dale Remake is back in production and has a Module out (see the modules forum for link) which is being added to regularly now that slowdive.fan is back in the saddle.

And for those of you relatively new to the Community and Community Made Modules, I highly recommend a visit to the Vault and find:

Sands of Solvheil

The Red Prison

Pool of Radiance: Remastered

Nighthowls in Nestlehaven

Dark Waters

Thayvian Nights

and these are all just off the top of my head as standout games. There are so many more out there and I simply cannot keep track of them all. However on the Modules Forums, there is a sticky topic that has all the NWN2 modules listed and sorted by level and playstyle (I think).

The future of more NWN2 releases looks really good from where I sit. Even if there is no further developer or publisher support.
