IWD2 is a great game and is still very playable with its existing engine and system. What I was trying to say was that the conversion to NWN2 may not be worth the effort. I'm not so sure that there is enough to gain in the NWN2 engine over the existing IWD2 system. These conversions are a TON of work so there really needs to be a good long list of why the old engine/system/rule set could benefit from a conversion to NWN2. I just do think IWD2 would qualify because it is still very good and the "basterirsed 3e rule set" it uses is close enough to make it difficult to justify a conversion. If there is another IE game that could benefit from the NWN2 engine, I would say BG2, HoW, and TotL. When I say benefit, I don't mean to imply that the conversion is an improvement or better than the original, it is just a different way to experience the game with a different graphics engine, 3.5e rules, differrent character classes and races, etc.

Of course this is just my opinion and if someone really wanted to convert IWD2, I would definitely play it and maybe help out a bit if they wanted. Image IPB

BG2 in its original engine is still on my list to play, so I'd be perfectly happy just to have that. As Slowdive says, IWD2 did use a form of the 3rd edition rules - you had the same subraces and classes and suchlike which are the main advantage of NWN2. Just seeing the IWD1 and BG1 remakes would be mindblowing enough, if they're done to the level of quality which it seems clear from what we've seen so far that they will be.

They have something that looks kind of like Waukeen's Promenade now. They did manage to get interviewed all over the place for Irenicus dungeon. But no game sites seem to be showing any attention for the IWD/BG projects, despite them being near complete.

DAO remakes of BG2 and IWD have two HUGE flaws: You can only have 4 PCs maximum because the limit is hardcoded.
And I'm not sure about this one, correct me if I'm wrong, but you can only create one PC and have to recruit the others. Icewind Dale is all about creating 6 PCs from scratch.

Great graphics, animations and stuff are all great but NwN2 is MANY times more flexible.

no night/ day when it play a huge part in BG2 as well. Many missing feature as soon as you hit the exteriors area.

But they may find a way around it.

The Summer of 2000 marked the release of Icewind Dale. Can you believe it's been eleven years already? There was no better way to escape the heat, than the cool refreshing breath of this D&D classic.

Looking foward to see this project completed.

Harumph!

PS: Icewind Dale 2 was pretty good, too.

Yes and it was late being released in the UK. I think I was starting to dribble in anticipation by the time it was released. My wife thought I was mad - and ina way I was :)

Still am come to that Image IPB

@Kamal_

That's going to take a lot of mints ...

I wonder if you could possibly do something by making 2 of the characters be henchmen? If you had a way to quickly switch a character between being a PC and a henchman, you could get around the limitation -- albeit awkwardly.

Of the two games, I preferred BG2 because of the character development and the richer storyline.

I thought about mentioning that. But even if you make them as summons or henchmen, the questions are:
Can you directly control them? Can you change their inventory? Can they summon themselves?

It's an ugly implementation I think.
And even if you do that, can you create your team from scratch?

Icewind Dale without 6 custom made-from-scratch PCs just feels weird.

Are you comparing IWD to BG2 or DAO? IWD should be compared to BG1 and BG2 to IWD2 btw.
Unfortunately IWD has no Icewind Dale Tutu mod to make it more comparable to BG1. But that's exactly what this project is doing here. :D

Quick update screenshots from Final Chapter (W.I.P.)
Starting to get a little "burn out", but I only have about 15-20 more hours of work before the beta is ready (give me a few weeks)... Image IPB

There's a thread in the General Discussion forum about "Beautiful Screenshots" and what is still capable with the NWN2 graphics engine.

The images above should be posted or somehow linked in that thread. This is incredible. The screenshots from the Icewind Dale remake easily compare with contemporary professional cRPG titles.

Great work on a timeless classic.

Harumph!

Unlike the BG remake, I'll definitely play this (played BG1 with tutu awhile ago). It's amazing how fast you've got it done, and with such amazing looking areas to boot.

I never actually finished IWD1 like ten years ago, so now I'll get to know how it ends.

Hi slowdive.fan! I just registered to tell you (and the guys of the BG remake, to be honest ;)) that I eagerly wait for you to finish the campaign. I haven't played Icewind Dale back then and would love to catch up on it now. Keep up the good work - it's appreciated and looked forward to!
