Hi everybody,
I'm stuck at the candlekeep library at chapter 6. After not killing the iron throne gang at level 3,  climbed to level 5, took gorion's scroll, climbed to level 6, and there, instead of getting arrested, the gatekeeper teels me that there's an unusual fellow looking for me at the outer grounds. I looked everywhere but couldn't find anyone, and I tried replying the chapter twice and got the same results.
Any idea anyone?

When you go outside, in this scenario you should get arrested by a guard.



You should make sure that you have talked to Koveras/Sarevok.

I talked to him but didn't take the ring (I asked him how come he knows so much), but still, nothing happened when i went outside

What version of the game are you playing. The standard game, EasyTutu or BGT.



If you've got the standard version and the tales of the sword coast expansion, is it patched. Reason for asking is the global variables bug could cause this sort of behaviour.

Taking the ring from Koveras is not required. I've never had the Gate Warden tell me to go outside. Are you running any mods?

I'm using standard version and not running any mods

This is standard, if you do not talk to Koveras/Sarevok.

A guard should speak to you outside.

BG patch is here , not required if tales of the sword coast is installed.

TotSC patch is here



DirectX patches aren't required.

Sounds like maybe the global variable bug is in action here. Patching should fix it, or be sure to go up to the top level after talking to Koveras.

I reinstalled the game, patched it, and I'm still stuck.

Can anyone please help me? is there another patch? something else I can do? tweak the saved game?

I don't know how, but now it's okay. I loaded an earlier save and this time took koveras' ring. Apperantly the ring is used as an evidence against me, and when I got to the six floor i was finaly arrested (never thought I'd say anything like this...)

I am having exactly the same problem. I have the 4 in 1 set. I had a problem a durlag's tower with glitch on 2 and 3 levels of the dungeon. Wouldn't let me advance to the chessboard. So, I left durlag's tower and continued the game. Now, I am stuck in candlekeep and the guards won't arrest me. I have tried a couple of times. Nothing happens. They tell me to meet someone outside but nothing happens. I tried to patch the game for durlag's tower using the two different patches people recommended, and it gave me an error. So, I had to reinstall bg and totsc twice now. The patches don't seem to be working. Or, maybe I am putting the patch on wrong?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Be sure to install the correct patch, there are 3 patches 1) for the US version, one for the UK version and one for the International version. I'm not sure if if you need to install both patches if you have both BG1 and Tales of the Sword Coast.

Also, do you get an error code when trying to install the patch?

Did you go to the 5th floor of the keep? That's usually where I get arrested if I didn't kill the iron throne leaders.

With TotSC installed you should only install the TotSC patch - you will get problems if you try to install the BG1 patch as well.

I tried to install the totsc patch. Both the uk and us versions at seperate times (tried them both due to the fact that I think this set came from the uk even though I bought it through a us store). I do recieve an error code. Two to be exact. Can't remember exactly what the number was. I went up to the fifth floor and nothing happened and the gatewarden told me to meet someone outside. And, still, nothing happened when I went outside. I am a pretty thorough player. So, pretty sure it's a bug. Someone mentioned a global variable bug. I remember that being a problem with the original set of discs I had years ago. I guess I can try and install the patch again. Thanks for your time in trying to assist me. Any further help is always appreciated. ...you know you have to be a real fan of a game to put up with the bugs this game has.. lol

Best to patch before doing anything else. When you hit the global variable issue every new variable will be lost until you patch, so the further you continue the more messed up your save games become.

It's been a while since I used Windows, if you've installed to the program files location you might have more luck running the patch as adminstrator (right click the patch file and select run as administrator if I remember correctly).

If you decide to re-install choose a less protected location such as c : \\ games

Thank you all for the help. I had to install the uk version patch. Everything is working fine now. Just finished the game. Now, I just need to play it again so I can finally finish Durlag's tower. Yeah me. lol
