Iwas talking with Shale - question for you gay guys - is Shale gay?  He certainly sounded it when talking about his accessories, but then maybe it is just that I have no fashion sense.  I ask only because you guys usually know.

No need to be gay, the answer is in the game: take it with you to the Anvil of the Void, and all shall be revealed ;)

Which, if you think about it, is hardly realistic. Not all people in the world are bisexual, not by a long shot, and very few people will dive into bed with someone they just met. But then, it's a game, and some willing suspension of disbelief is necessary to enjoy it, I s'pose :)

Technically I believe Dairren and/or Iona have known the PC (at least in passing) for a good while, if not the better part of their lives (at least for my female human noble, re: Dairren). Especially since you get the impresion that their parent has/is grooming them to marry into SOME sort of nobility, that's actually not all that far-fetched.

Ah, I must have missed that part when I got started (understandably, since I spent most of the Origin trying to get the game to work right ^_^ ), thanks for the info :)

good point...maybe they could put in an option to turn that off if you don't want to "see" it.

Don't dare say you don't like it as you will be attacked by so many your head will spin. They will say that you should not have a choice to turn that stuff off, that you need to allow this, that you should not have a choice such as turning that option off.You will be called the weird one.

The "i slept overnight in a tanning bed" skin and the terrible cringe-inducing accent coupled with the deep voice coming out of that body, i'd be just as jarred to see a petite chinese woman with a southern accent.

Because, goodness knows, you'd NEVER get someone of Chinese descent being born and raised in the U.S.  South, thereby gaining such an accent culturally. What a jarring thing indeed.

Zevran's voice isn't particularly deep. I don't see why all elves have to have high-pitched voices when they're only slightly smaller than humans. Not all short or slender males have high voices. And from the description of his homeland, Zevran is from a Mediterranean area, so the accent seems suitable as does the sunbleached hair and tanned skin.

P.S. I think Zevran rocks, BioWare devs.

I still don't understand people complaining about Zevran.

1. You can say No

2. You can kill him

3. You can kick him out of the group

How is this a problem?

SPOILER

The way to make Zevran stop flirting might be slightly rude, but after that his approval status will be warm instead of interested and he'll just treat you as a friend afterward. At the end of the game for me, he offered to continue helping the young Cousland on his adventures without any sort of innuendo or flirtation.

Can you make a relationship with Shale? Like if you tried REALLY hard? That'd be sweet.

Yah I know that but no other game that I know of can you a gay relashionship.

Really?  Because this isn't new territory for BioWare.

Both ME and KotOR offered F/F relationships, and Jade Empire had both M/M and F/F relationships available.

Did they now? Juhani's relationship with you was really nothing more than an attraction. Maybe it was a deep relationship on an emotional level but nothing physical ever happened. As for Mass Effect well Liara isn't a female. Liara's species does not have genders.

As for Zevran, I just could not find myself being attracted to him. It just felt to awkward. Maybe it's because I don't like people who are too "loose".

i just started playing but i have such a crush on alistair. from what eunomiac wrote above, am i to understand that all my flirting is for naught? i'll be crushed if my gifts and flirting don't pay off..

This is my one and only disappointment with Dragon Age. Alistair is probably my favourite bioware character ever. I love how the typical 'smart ass' responses that would usually offend others just make him laugh and tease you back. He's adorable, and I gave him every gift I found in the hopes of getting my rocks on with him.

Can't believe he doesn't swing that way, he seems to be flirting all the time!

As pleased as I am that there is a male character I can get freaky with, and as much as I do like Zevran, I'm still hugely disappointed. Zevran is the kinda guy you shag. Alistair is the kind of guy you develop a relationship with.  :(

im proud that one of my favorite, if not THEE favorite developer of video games has finally took many steps forward and rewarded its community with well developed games, characters and an evolved look at games in general.

bioware has shown us that they can inject romance, blood, love, religion, murder into an entertainment medium as well as other mediums in which have been doing it for many decades already!

to me they are taking some of the first steps in an attempt to evolve a medium which had previously been hampered by bad press, archaic rules and fans that may not be hold such regard for this medium as art.

i commend bioware for many things and also as this thread states, the inclusion of hetero lifestyles as well as homosexual lifestyles.

i am hetero, as well as a white male. its unfortunate but my race and sex seems to be the majority representation in most games. but i hope theres a day when you boot a game up and you can choose to be any color and sex you like.

bioware seems to be aiming in a interesting direction and im excited to see where they go from here...

Zevran is, at first, just "the kind of guy you shag"--but romance him further, and there's more to him than that. He's just not the kind of man who ever fell in love before. :) This is part of the reason I love him (and the reason my character loved him eventually as well). He's multi-layered and takes some time to really crack.

Not that my character -didn't- think about Alistair in that way a few times (I, too, felt like he was flirting on occasion... "licked a lamp-post in winter" -really- isn't phallic imagery? really?)... but alas. :) Friendship will suffice...

To be fair though I sort of do like it that they kept a few characters like that. Characters should have some lines in the sand that they are not willing to cross no matter how persuasive your character is. Just as some characters in the game leave or attack you if you do certain deeds with others being approving of those deeds, I can imagine some character's being completly straight & others going both ways.

The one thing I am waiting for is in the next Bioware game for Party character to be completly gay and not open to hetrosexual relationships. It would be interesting.

Anyone want to imagine the fan-reaction if Bioware had made Sagacious Zu in Jade Empire as being strictly gay?

Lord, this is how I've felt in nearly every game ever.  I'm gay, and no matter what I do all these women keep coming on to me, and I constantly have to choose between acting like a total jerk to them or hitting on them back.

Exactly. Some people just don't look at it from our point of view. :(

This reminds me of how Wynne gave me a lecture about love when she talked to my character about his relationship with Zevran, lol

wynne annoyed me when she gave that speech, but one of my favourite moments was when she took it back, her explanation being almost word for word what i thought (but was unable to say) when she first brought it up, really made me appreciate the realism and reward of determinedly persuing what does at first seem a dead end relationship
i just finished my first playthrough and got ultimate sacrifice, poor zev, it brought a tear to my eye :crying:

I know, right?! I totally cried. :( Poor Zev. His epilogue, too... I felt so guilty. "Poor man," as Zevran said himself...

Call me crazy but I would have liked more romance options. I would have liked to woo Wynne (I do have unusual tastes) but what are you gonna do? And Oghren. When you can't flirt with a drunk dwarf, there's something very wrong. (half joking here).

But yes Bioware did a great thing in allowing players to try out pretty much any kind of relationship. Who knows? perhaps they'll add more romances with addons or expansions. I know I'd love that.

I would've loved to play a female (or male--but, ah, Oghren does seem rather -set- in his tastes :P) dwarf and been able to romance Oghren. I find him endearing as hell.

Also, in response to the "I find the gay stuff annoying" comment--I find straight stuff annoying in most games, isn't there ever anyone who is just gay in those? :P

I remember this now. He definitely mistakes you for a female. My male elf played along, too, for the sake of hilarity--but alas! Passed out. Oghren is too funny.
