I was working on a conversation that needs to start over a long distance and I could not get it to work properly.  I finally went into the campaign editor and changed the conversation distance from "0" to "100".  Everything worked perfectly afterwards.

My questions:

1)Is there a downside to setting the conversation distance to 100?
2)Is this how you keep characters from running around the stupid bar everytime they talk to a bartender?

thanks

I have my distance set to 999, have not seen a problem yet. I can have two objects conversing from opposite sides of the area lol.

In function ActionStartConversation, there is a parameter called IgnoreStartDistance. If you script it TRUE, that should allow the convo to start regardless of how far the two are. Or is there some limitation to it that I'm not thinking of?

On my end the game seem to really don't care about conversation distance.

Is there something to do to enable it ?

There could be, since for a creature you'd have to fire the OnConversation event and the distance for that could be limited, hardcoded etc.  ie clicking on a conversable npc moves you to range then fires the event that runs the script once your in convo range... I think the  ActionStartConversation IgnoreStartDistance is for things like starting up a convo between the PC and a placeable or staring one up by triggering a trigger rather then clicking directly on a creature with a OnConversation event script.

i know in NWN1 there was a problem with distances and ActionStartConversation from personal experience, it wouldnt fire unless the PC was a certain distance from the thing to converse with. I once tried having a forced convo for the PC with a creature that was a good distance away, it refused to start the convo untill i got the creature within a set distance of the PC's location.

As Knightmare indicates I think you can set the convo distance... not sure if its all encompassing or on a case per case basis. Not sure how either, might be in a creatures properties.

So far, it has fixed my problem as Nightmare reported. It makes conversations much easier to start.
