Wait - Hawke kissing Isabela isn't a confirmation?

You mean the kiss in a CGI trailer which so accurately and clearly conveys the nuances of a game's plot, as opposed to simply the broadest strokes of it? ;)

:crying:

This is why Mary is the nice one.

Be a real shame if BioWare confirmed any romances before release. Spoilers are bad. Keeping us in the dark is good.

Haven't the reviews also stated that Isabela is the first LI revealed?

David, you take pleasure in confusing us poor fans, don't you? :P

How about a non-companion LI ? After all, you should't have to fall in love exclusively with people the people who go darkspawn-slicing with you. How about a grumpy wife waiting for you to return to Kirkwall after each quest ?

Having your love interest alongside you as you go about the business of sticking sharpened metal into dudes effects your judgement. Maybe you'll be a little nicer to whatever faction they represent. Maybe you'll be a little nicer generally while they're there Or maybe you act like a antisocial maniac, but at least occasionally ponder what your beloved thinks about it.

I'm not sure a non party romance would have quite the same effect on the rest of gameplay, and would mostly only exist for it's own sake. Which I suppose isn't a bad thing, considering how popular the element is, but I know that personally it's not something I'd be interested in.

Unless they were hot. But I think that goes without saying.

IndeedImage IPB. It's not something I'm particularly interested in but I found it funny that in Origins, all the one night stands were NPCs and all the LI were party members. Though it's true you don't necessarily spend enough time with NPCs to build a relationship. Still, I wouldn't have minded the arranged marriage with Nesaria turning into a real romance.

What about the Rise to Power trailer? Plus, it was like six seconds of Isabela, where everything else got less than a second flashes.

Elderly people can still make love.

But regardless, we are far off base. Let's get back to Aveline...

Has less to do with their ages rather than the fact that it's an abomination, a templar and a mage.

Everyone knows the best one is Irving/Gorim/Ogrhen. Aww yeah baby, we got ourselves a Blumsome.

Back on topic though! Isabella doing all that kissing.. I guess wouldn't be too huge a shocker for me really. I have to admit, if Aveline is romanceable.. I'd be tempted. She'd be a very different LI, aside from the dead-spouse issue.

Besides, women that can beat the crap out of you is just hot. <3 Look at Wonder Woman!

Agreed. I like reading speculation and I'm always interested in the technical aspects of the game, but storyline reveals kind of ruin the experience.

I remember after watching the broodmother video, I prepared myself to look for signs of the "****** monster" when I finally picked up the game. When that part came up, instead of going, "WTF is this crazy dwarf chick babbling about?" I said, "Oh, this must be where I fight the ****** monster from that video." The mystery and any sort of suspense was completely eliminated.

I took it as equal parts Rising to Power and Isabela reveal trailer. She greets everyone that way!

I like Isabela but I would rather have Aveline as a f/f romance option, it would be a bit more interesting IMO. That is of course assuming that there are any same sex options, and that Isabela is one of them.

I have to agree. I'm sure Isabela's a nice girl, but so far... Aveline is really coming off as totally my type. Much more so than those waifish rogue girls we keep getting, at that.

Come on, say 'Yes,' BioWare.

We haven't announced any romances yet, and we're not about to start just because there's a new character to ask the question about.

coughs.......you announced Isabela as a possible (and possibly temporary) LI

Isabela seems more curvy than waifish.

The devs will have to consult with Aveline about this. She calls the shots around here.

I'm not condoning incest, but I won't deny that--historically speaking--incest was not uncommon during the time period in which the world of Dragon Age is loosely based up. But I didn't want this to become another "please let us romance Bethany" thread!
I was merely making a lighthearted point that the game would certainly be more interesting if every companion were romanceable, and I think even you would have to agree with me on that point!
And if you don't want a homosexual relationship, don't pursue one! :wizard:

Medieval times, full brother-sister incest? It was...frowned upon, to say the least.

not entirely frowned upon

People need to stop raising this. I'd dispute any claims of "common place", but it's utterly irrelevant. If someone made a thread about how the language was unrepresentative of medieval english and could bioware please make a game that no one but several language professors could play, the argument against it would be exactly the same as the one against this. It would just be less creepy.

Sorry, not going to happen. By the time the game comes out, you'll be fully aware of who the potential party members and romances are in the game-- if you pay attention to all the marketing that goes out. Caveat emptor. We're not going to hold your hand for you on that count.

Any word on when this marketing will go out?
