Boycotting the game until the Silverite Mine bug is fixed...

Spent a good 5 hours exploring every inch of the Forest and the Mine, the game religiously saves during the mine to ensure all your autosaves are roast by the time you run into this bug. Then ran into this bug... Lost all of my main character's gear... I do have a save from about a day's worth of play time prior to the entire Forest and some other area before that... But, given this bug has been around for NINE months, I expect better.
So, Bioware, I am boycotting the Dragon Age series and all packs until you guys fix this. I am a software developer... That you guys can't fix this is a shame and a sham. I've invested over $100 in a piece of software that has less support and patching that shareware? Please reconsider. Thanks.

Much quicker and easier than waiting for a patch.

But boycotting won't make a difference save for one fewer person to complain.

As explained by the OP, all his autosaves were roast by the time he ran into this bug!
It is the main problem with this bug, to avoid it you need to know that it exist and keep a save before to enter the mines otherwise you can only reload an older save (if you have one!).
The worst is that the real bug was not even acknowledged as unresolved in the last patchnotes.
To answer to the OP, I don't think that a boycott would change anything, but because of the insufficient mean provided by Bioware* to resolve this sort of bugs, I will most probably not buy DA2.
*PS: I don’t care if it is Bioware's or EA's fault, the facts are that now Bioware belongs to EA so I don't expect any improvement for their next games.

So far in all my plathrough I've never lost my gear. I always found the damn Darkspawn thats equipped with my stuff. The only time I lost any gear was when a certain partymember went batsh*t on me and I had kill them and all I got back was the chest piece of the armor and not the helmet or greaves or gloves.
The Silverite Mine bug has something to do with the stats of your PC's equipment, or so I'm told. If your clone can't equip any of it, it's all gone. First time I played the DLC it was fine, but I wasn't wearing any of the new armour or weapons. My two other playthroughs I lost my gear both times and had to reload/run in nekkid to circumvent it. But I knew the bug existed by that point, so I'd made a hard save before entering the mine.

Of course, you could always get more than your money's worth by playing community made mods for absolutely no cost. Plus modders generally are very keen to get patches out to rectify any bugs encountered by players. Just a suggestion. :-)

One: it's not Bioware's fault if people choose to ignore the sound advice of "save often, and in different slots".
Two: It most certain is acknowledged in the patch notes, along with the problem with the armor and sword not displaying properly.

When patch sizes are dictated by game console manufacturers, it's hardly Bioware's fault if they are restricted by those limits as long as they release multi-platform games; as someone pointed out, they probably could have fixed it for the PC, but how would that help those playing on console?

I did not buy the console version of DAO and I do not even own a console. The fact that Bioware (or EA) choose to develop the game on multiple platform to be able to sell it to more customers (and then earn more money) is absolutely not an excuse for providing less support (to any version of the game) than should have been provided if it wasn’t multiplatform.ladydesire wrote...

And when Bioware guys spoke about the bug that they “were not able to fix” in patch 1.04, they never spoke about the fact that you could lose your items in the mines. The only reference to the silverite mine was when they explained that a bug could happen if the player manages to enter the mine without Velanna.

I'm hesitant to buy DA2 until I see what kinds of bugs exist and how quickly they get patched. Even after 1.04, there are many bugs that have existed since release and have yet to be fixed. I'd like to see Bioware actually take their time with DA2 to make sure that things are done right, and the game doesn't feel like Awakening with a rushed feel and gets released full of bugs that should have never made it past testing. DA2 has had a fast development and I'm not sure what to think of it until release. Hopefully it turns out to be worthy successor to Origins. Until then, I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.

The all-or-none patching policy has nothing to do with "political correctness". Bioware is contractually obligated to release patches to all platforms or none at all. This is a binding agreement between Bioware, Micro$oft and $ony. It is a pre-condition that Bioware had to abide by in order that Micro$oft and $ony would allow Dragon Age onto their platforms. Bioware had to also jump through a number of QA hurdles before even being allowed to patch Dragon Age on those platforms. As a result, every patch version cost them through the teeth.
Bioware could have just made DA for the PC and patched the game however and whenever they pleased. But being able to distribute the game onto gaming consoles and increasing the market share was too tempting. Greed won out!!

The main problem I have with this is that I have the Collector's Edition and all the packs and special trinkets here and there... What else is hosed for me? Do I need to read a walktrhough with full spoilers and ruin the game for myself just to "be safe"? If I download more content... What else will be hosed? Will I discover 95% through the next pack I install that I hosed myself at the very start because I had a special helmet or some other trinket? Isn't the reason most people pay the little extra for the Collector's Edition and the side adventures with special rewards to get the little extra privilege in the game? Not to get hosed in the game?

If you want to fix it after you could always use something like the "add any item" mod. Like the name suggest it can be used to add any item to the inventory, for instance ones lost to this bug.

Wow, thanks for explaining that. o_O Nuts. What delights we have to look forward to in DA2

Welcome to the patch policy of EA and BioWare. We don't get any information, requests are ignored and nobody knows if there will be patch for DAO/DAA again.

If I delete the extra content, perhaps, and reinstall it, will that fix it? And will I have to pay for awakenings again?
This sucks.

That said, it's not going to be fixed. It's been, as you say, close to a year. They haven't done it yet. At this point, they're more concerned with DA2 then with fixing an existing game.
However, 'boycotting' only goes so far. Refuse to buy other DLC or to buy DA2, I get. But if you mean to refuse to play the game you already have, well, that hurts nobody but you.
To everyone in this thread who seems to be criticizing the OP for his reaction to this issue: Are you kidding me? So what if this is a known issue? The OP didn't know about it. The OP got screwed by it. Lots of people got screwed by it. Simply saying that "this is a known issue", and that "there is a simple work-around" is crap, IMO. This isn't a problem created by mods, or some user-created issue through exploits or cheats. It's a bug created not by any mods, but permitted by the game itself, following all it's rules, and it's pretty damn big. It's existence shouldn't be excused or down played in any way. It should never exist on the shipped game in the first place.
So stop villifying people who are upset by this bug, and stop excusing Bioware for it. It should be unacceptable, and Bioware should be clearly made aware that people find it unaccepable.
Also, releasing games on multiple platforms is not evil. It's business. And it's good business. And if the multiple platform contracts tell Bioware that they have to fix bugs for all platforms or none, I find that commendable. BUT, when there is an issue like this, and it's the size of the allowable patch that prevents a fix, THAT requirement needs to be over-ridden. Because THAT is simply good business, as well.

I've never seen this before. I assume it's happened multiple times? What extra content do you mean? DLC's? Which ones?
I really have no suggestion at this point, except the old standby, try to clear your cache and see if it happens again. Sorry.
