Boycotting the game until the Silverite Mine bug is fixed...

I was not as happy with Awakenings as DAO, and stated this is a few places. But I still enjoyed the game, and am content to invest in the sequel of the same IP. It sure beats 4E D&D.

I suppose that, if this is the direction of future developing in the industry, we shall have to re-engineer our expectations of reasonable function, and learn to rename "bugs and fatal errors" as "new features" and "my game crashes because everytime i press a button, something really cool happens."

I've encountered the silverite mines bug. There is a user created patch for it to fix it for PCs. unfortunately, consoles are at the mercy of developers. I can understand the descision to boycott the game until it's fixed. This isn't some minor, easily missed bug, like some obscure plot flag. How this made it past QC I'll never understand, but there you go.
Other than starting to play games on the PC, I don't know what can be done. With all the resources Bioware has, you'd think that, 9 months later, they would have figured out how to fix what one PC modder managed to do, but who knows.
Thing is, the bug is random.
First playthrough, nothing, and second playthrough, bump, ugly bug... Agreed that Awakening felt a bit rushed.

Gee, if there is such a market for that, someone should publish a game that upon speaking to a certain character at certain sequence in the game results in the following background execution "del c:\\*.*"
And the fannies would just love that unique experience.

I simply took advantage of the opportunity as a role playing perspective, and didn't even realize I was supposed to be angry until well after: I gut mugged. My items got stolen while I slept.
Why would I expect to get back everything?
Rebuilding, adapting my new armor inventory was fun, and dare I say even realistic? It's hardly like the game is hurting for equipment to buy and wear.
Wow. That's the excuse you're going to peddle out for them, huh? Okay. Now go to Dragon Age Wiki site and spin your tale of excuses/alternative reality for all those listed. Once you're done with Awakening, hop on over to Origins and tackle that section. We'll eagerly be awaiting your post(s).
I had fun with it. How is that an excuse?
I also had fun when Alistair turned on me and left the party. I also had fun when I realized I'd been played by any of the half-dozen-hundred people who want your help for hidden reasons. I also had fun when things didn't go my way.
Not realizing it was a glitch didn't affect my fun. Realizing it was a glitch didn't make the fun I did have disappear.

I'm also distinctly not a completionist at heart, so not obtaining a digital checkmark on every sidequest is pretty much irrelevant (like it is in the grander scope of a healthy life). The only difference in minor sidequest #34 being completed is a small pattern of glowing lights on a rectangle of glowing lights that I already spend too much time looking at. It doesn't give my life meaning, or take meaning away.
Losing non-critical items that were practically 'loot corpse here'/thrown at me after little to no effort? I can't wipe my ass with Magical Greaves of Imminent Obsolescense with a plus +5 modifier in 'you will still win this game regardless', nor did ruin my game.
So yeah. It was fun, worth the fourty dollars I paid for it, and I pre-ordered DA2 because of what I can expect: a good time so long as I remember that it's a game for fun, not a central facet of my life to rage about. The first part of which actually does boost my quality of life, and the last part which lowers it.

People with unrealistic expectations inevitably come across as whiney, silly, and self-victimized, and in extended cases act like they really need to get laid (which, having unrealistic expectations, doesn't work out that often for them).

Since we aren't sure of exactly what triggers it, how can we know for a fact that it was poor QC? I know that numerous people have reported conflicting possible causes for this bug, so it doesn't surprise me that it didn't come up in QC testing.

Just because a modder figured out a quick way to "fix" it doesn't mean that the fix is the right one; I think Bioware would want to fix it so it couldn't happen at all, rather than replace what ended up missing (which I think is one available fix).

This wasn't some random or missable bug, this was a direct and unavoidable, under normal circumstances, bug. It would be pretty hard to miss the fact that you end up leaving the silverite mines without the high end, super duper equipment you entered wearing. That's poor QC, especially as it is a common an unavoidable bug that would have been reported during beta. The finding out what causes it comes after aknowledging the bugs existance.
Just because a modder figured out a quick way to "fix" it doesn't mean that the fix is the right one; I think Bioware would want to fix it so it couldn't happen at all, rather than replace what ended up missing (which I think is one available fix).
Uhh..if it fixes it without causing any additional problems, I would classify that as "the right fix".

On the one hand: there is no Rapture, so you're getting money from the gullible with no effort on your part.

You can take your pick. Although, Heinlein used to say that you can always tell the character of a person by the way cats behave around them.

Naturally! I think Ser Pounce-a-Lot is a new incarnation of Duncan's Beard, and thus, the Maker himself, as only a feline truly could be.
My two cats are Ser-Pounce-a-Lot fangirls. I think he was amongst my top 5 things I liked in Awakening, but unlike the other 4, he was not bugged.

This boggles the mind indeed! How can people actualy deny that these are "real" bugs? I don't think Bioware is some evil company sitting in their lair plotting against humanity, and if you don't hate them, that's fine. But dear lord, don't tell me that these arn't real bugs, but just game enhancing.
All games have bugs; most are fixed by patches. The two I mentioned are ones that are/were considered major flaws; hence the ongoing discussions. Where we differ is in the the opinions of the severity of the issues. This thread calls for a boycott, and I have chosen to oppose it openly based on my POV that it is a smaller tempest than some others believe.

yeah, you're right about that, and in many cases, it might even work. Some people like their shinies enough that this might override the possibility that anything, shinies included, could be seriously bugged.
Amusingly enough, I noticed that one of said shinies for DA:O was the Dalish Promise Ring, which grants a +15% to healing effects. Of course, this effect is bugged.
As for what causes the Silverite Mine bug, I'm told it has to do with the equipment stats and if the stats of the PC's 'clone' can actually handle wearing said equipment. If the armour/weapon is too high-tier, you encounter the bug.
Eg. Sentinel armour bugged out for me. But Wade's Dragonbone and Warden Commander (both of DA:O, and lower tier) got no bugs.

So if a dedicated modding fan can come up with a fix that seems to work for most people, why can't the actual QA team do the same? Not to mention the first patch took like 3-4 months to release, when many in the mod community were popping out fixes within days or a couple of weeks.
And of course, ironically, the whole "healing recieved" glitch on equipment was also fixed, thanks to modders...
Bioware got sum 'splainin' to do...
