Going to Orzammar early in the game?

I'm about to start a new play through in Origins and I've always done the Paragon of Her Kind quest late in the game. Generally, you're advised to do this because the Deep Roads is a very difficult dungeon. Also, Dragon Age Wiki states:

Note: It is recommended to leave this quest till later in the game, as a low level or poorly-geared party will have difficulty when progressing from the Deep Roads onwards.

The downside of this is that for the Oghren lovers like myself you can't get him until very late in the game and I'd like to get him as early as possible this time. Has anyone gone to Orzammar early and is it as difficult as they say? Is it doable?

If you can get past Loghain's men that are waiting for you when you first enter the Frostback mountains, you might be okay. Remember, you don't have to complete the deep roads, just get to the point of recruiting Oghren. However you DO have to get through Jarvia and that's always a tough fight for me.

deep roads are one of the toughest sections of the game so going there at the beginning of the game, its going to be hard to play or pass.

I've accomplished it early and late and don't recall it being particularly more difficult one way or the other. The only thing that may make it more of a slog is that you may not have a big inventory early on and, since the Deep Roads are so long, your inventory may fill up more often.

And since it can be a bit spoilerish, I'll send this over to the spoiler forum.

I often go to Orz early and just do what I need to do through the Jarvia quests, pick up Oghren, then come back later to finish Paragon of Her Kind. It's worth it to get Oghren earlier, see his Fade dream and pick up some of his funny commentary at various quest points.

My canon goes to Orzammar first, and completes it. It can be pretty challenging since you are so low on experience and levels, but by the time I'm done with it, I'm at like level 13 or 14. Not bad for a first quest, and I don't even leave the city or deep roads during the quest.

The minimum level Orzammar is scaled to is 10, so going earlier than that will be difficult.

From a plot point of view, I prefer leaving it till last. Venturing into the deep roads, finally seeing the Archdemon in the flesh. It seems like the sort of thing which should be happening late in the game.

Don't forget to pick up Key to the City. Another good reason to go there early.

If you do all the DLCs (Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, and Stone Prisoner), right after Lothering, you should get past level 10, which is just right for Orzammar.

Orzammar has a minimum level cap of 10, so anything below that can be extra difficult, but if you're level 10 and above, you should be fine.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I always leave it as my last, or before last main quest.

It's definitely possible to do the deep roads early. I've gone to Orzammar and completed the whole Paragon of her Kind quest early before-- after playing the DLC but as the first main story quest.

If you don't have the "lock bash" mod you might get annoyed since there are a lot of higher level chests you won't be able to get at without maxxing out lock picking, though, since your cunning won't otherwise be high enough.

The most pressing difficulty I had when spelunking the Deep Roads early on was trying to fit the mountain of useless junk loot I'd aquired along the way into 80~ slots. If anyone ever needs to find the Anvil of the Void afterwards, they could probably just follow the trail of lifestone and health poultices I jettisoned along the way.

Only 80? I have 100 by the first quest. 2 from the Ostagar quartermaster and one from Bodic.

And if you don't kill Ruck, you can empty alot of your crap off on him mid Deep Roads.

I appreciate all the replies. If the lowest mobs scale down to 10 then it seems like it might be best if I hit Redcliffe or the Circle Tower first. That's still a lot earlier than my other play throughs.

Lots of money to be had in Orzamar. But you can blow those opportunities by activating the wrong guy at the wrong time or not having high enough persuasion. You lose that gold and you lose upgrade money for your gear as well as cash to buy the best rings, belt, and necklaces. Eventually you'll have the cash, but by then the game is almost over.

My best friend just chose Orzamar as his second zone, completed it, and called me for money making advice. After a discussion I forensically tracked how he blew 200 gold by going to Orzammar too soon making the conversation/persuade wrong choices.

I'm not saying it can't be done. I think it can and it would be fun and challenging. But I don't recommend it unless you can avoid talking to Rogek until you come back with max persuasion, unless you can persuade Baizyl to pay you 15 sovereigns for Revelka's love letters, etc.
