A traitor to one can be a hero to another. Benedict Arnold is an enemy to the US, but a hero to Great Britain.
If he feels very strongly about Cailan turning to the, to him, non-trustworthy Grey Wardens. In his mind, he might just be thinking he is saving Ferelden from a huge threat.
Nothing is really ever just black and white.
Actually Benedict Arnold died hated by both. The English hated him because he was one of the most vocal advocates for revolution, the Americans hated him because he tried to sell west point to the english because the Contenintal Congress kept screwing him over with back room politics.
The English may have made him a General (as per their agrement) but he was not looked at as a hero in any regaurd.
Anywho, I agree with Loghain, and hope we can join him in his plans, instead of beating him and he joins us in ours.

The trailer "Creatures of Dragon Age featurette part II" already spoiled too much about him during the beginning of dragon battle.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the education, I didn't know that. I don't mean that sarcastically, btw., I mean that sincerely. I'm neither US American nor British, and I always thought General Arnold was valued by his compatriots
At any rate, no matter what Loghain's motives, or whether he sees himself as a patriot, he's still responsible for many deaths and much misery. For that, justice needs be done.
I don't see any Loghain spoilers either, but it looks like the king will most definitely die. *Sigh* I was hoping he somehow survived, that would've made some interesting interaction with Cailan/Grey Wardens/Loghain & Company. But what were the odds of that, really. He was in dire trouble in the other trailer already, his survival was laways highly unlikely.

*shrug* If I find his reasons for betraying that naiive idiot of a king to the darkspawn sufficient I'll be perfectly willing to withhold the execution order.
That's cold bro, the king seems like a perfectly nice guy to me.

Thats the point, it's not a time for a "nice guy" to be on the throne, and the world dosen't exactly have alot of time to wait for him to get a reality check, Assuming Loghain does betray him, and I'm just going by the teaser trailer that was a little ambigous so I'm not sure he even does, I personaly can see it as the right thing to do. Honorable? no, but maybe what had to be done to win in the end.

He was seen by the Austria-Hungary as evil but his own people loved him. There is even a statue of him somewhere cant remember where.
Anyhow i dont know why Loghain would not help Cailan i dont even know if he does yet as i havent read it myself just seen people say it is so. It could be that the darkspawns are so many that he though it would be of no use to help instead it would just sacrifice alot of people's live's. Maybe he though he could get two flies in one stroke by not helping he would get rid of both the Grey Wardens and Cailan but who knows i dont. But if thats it then that scheming coward got alot to answer to

There is such a thing as a bloodless coup. I think Loghain has enough men behind him to at least make sure Cailan thinks twice about throwing his own life away for the promise of glory. Hell, he could've said "If you go out there boy, you can expect no help from me. What you are proposing is foolish and I shall have no part in it."
