Landsmeet: Alistair...

I just can't believe it. I sat there for a good 5 minutes or something just staring into my monitor after the dialogue ended. I tried my best to fight his stupid decision but he won't budge. I can't be his queen since I'm not of noble birth, and regents are expected to marry and have children.
God, I feel so strongly about this. It's really weird. This is the first time I've gotten dumped in a Bioware game. And I liked Alistair so freaking much too, I almost felt guilty over how much I liked talking to him when I thought about my irl boyfriend (silly, I know!).
So now's just the question to myself... do I accept this, or do I re-load and make Anora queen just to save our relationship? I don't particularly like her, and I'm not sure it's okay to put her as reigning queen just to save mine and Alistair's relationship. Not to mention that even if my characters won't know this happened, I freaking know! My game's still running, haven't moved an inch since Alistair went out the room and I have a stupid level up window up. But yeah, what now, what now...
Did this happen to anyone else? I mean the event, and the feelings about the event both lol =)

If you're playing any other origin you can avoid having him dump you if you harden him first.
EDIT: In case you don't know, to harden Alistair you must pick the line "Everyone's out for themselves" after the meeting with Goldanna. Then, once he hits 75 approval he will tell you that he wants to stand up for himself. Support him and then he's hardened.
After the Landsmeet is over, he will still try to dump you, but you can avoid it by picking the line "no one can tell the king what to do".

EDIT: Yeah, I didn't do that. I let him cry on my shoulder-esque instead. So he's still my big, loving pansy =/ I did try the "nobody can tell the king what to do" thing too, without knowing any mechanics behind it, but he brushed it off - for obvious reasons now that I know the mechanics behind it all. And I am indeed a mage, so no human noble for me.
Damn it all =/ Alistair

I know, I was surprised myself. But trust me, hardened Alistair is much better than regular Alistair, even if you're not planning to make him king.

Well, you're certainly not alone in this happening to you. Almost everyone who romanced Alistair has experienced this.
That is unless you didn't make Alistair king because it is the one thing he repeatedly tells you he doesn't want throughout the game....:innocent:

Ahem, I MYSELF never experienced this since a) I've never romanced Alistair and
But still, almost every Alistair fan has experienced this.

You'll see. Or not, depending on what you decide in a little while.

If I were you I'd keep playing as you. I always make "Me" choices my first run through.

Alistair's romance is beautiful and tragic and heartbreaking all at the same time without metagaming. You may still run across some unexpected twists.
My first run had me crying so much, out of heartbreak and happiness. Enjoy it! And hate it. And next time you play through, you'll make different choices and have different things happen.

That said I wouldn't reload if I were you. You're in for a lot more tragedy. *laughs evilly*
Though I'm an Alistair fan and I never got the breakup speech. ...That said I hardened him without realizing and suggested being his- urgh....yeah.
Though honestly Alistair is miserable as king I don't see why you'd make him king unless you planned on being chancellor or queen. He's much happier if the two of you remain grey Wardens together.

Do I even have time for another romance? I figured this was like, just a few minutes from the end game. Not to mention... I honestly don't feel like having another romance >_< I'm Alistair's girl, really. At least this playthrough, I really am. I'm so stricken by that fine lad I can't imagine.... urgh, the urge to reload is so huge.ejoslin wrote...
I experienced it. My advice -- don't reload. Play the game out. Perhaps pursue another romance (omg, I did, and it made me a Zevran fangirl for life -- dumped by Alistair, engaged to Zevran... yeh), but just see how things end up.

I need him ;_;
EDIT: I mean I've been through so much crap, both of us have. He really doesn't want to become king, yet he feels it is for the best regardless and he is ready to accept it. We've seen so much stuff that's just heart wrenching and his family rejected him, and I was thrown out of my mage tower. We deserve our happy ending >_< *tears controller to pieces in frustration*

I mean...really. He has told you time and time again that he doesn't like to lead. And you dumped a whole country in his lap.

I've played through the game some 5 or 6 times now and I always keep a few saves for crucial* decisions.
*crucial from my perspective not necessarily anyone elses.

You're making it sound like I don't have any guilty conscience over it =/ Him and I discussed it quite thoroughly and we both realised together that it was the best way. He didn't like it, but he pretty much realised it needed to be done.Ryzaki wrote...
Alistair's happy ending involves him *not* being king. (Unhardened anyways).

If that wasn't an exaggaration but actually literally true, then that's so many trillion levels of awesome =DJon Jern wrote...

I say you should stop looking at forums, and go playthrough to the end of the game without getting any more spoilers. Then come back in a few hours and tell us what you did.

Hah. You should see what I did to my sister on my first playthrough in order to do what I felt 'was right'. Talk about guilt...
