Okay, I'll be back in a while. If I feel like **** when I'm done, I'm blaming you all =D

I love games that have the ability to get me THAT emotionally engaged.  That's why I <3 Dragon Age.

Welcome to the club!  So many of us have experienced what you are going through right now.  David Gaider (head writer and creator of Alistair) is a wicked man who lives off of players' tears.

I also suggest playing it through.  You may have more heartache ahead of you.  The first playthrough is always the toughest, but you can always try again ... and again ... and again.  Many of us have been playing different versions of this game for a year now.

You are welcome to join us in the Alistair thread.  You'll find a lot of understanding there.  :)

That is an amazing quote.  I think we should con some of the more gifted artists on the Ali thread to make a picture to go with this quote, and send it as a card to GAider.

I think I've seen a picture of him with an evil smile that said something like that.  Or maybe it was a "You've been Gaiderized!" caption.

You're making it sound like I don't have any guilty conscience over it =/ Him and I discussed it quite thoroughly and we both realised together that it was the best way. He didn't like it, but he pretty much realised it needed to be done.

How exactly? You have someone willing to be Queen. Loghain is dead and there's nothing standing in the way of Fereldan dealing with the blight.

There was no necessity. You just did the same thing Eamon did. Say "this is your duty" and guiltripped him into something he didn't want.

I'm not trying to be mean just point out the fact that making him King is something he never wanted no asked for. (Unless Hardened).

My first playthrough was bar far my easiest though. I played a male who romanced Zevran, married Anora and killed Loghain. DR was done and everyone was happy.

I guess I just lucked out? (I did decide later to have him do the US for my canon though)

When you talk to him in Eamon's estate he says he'll be king if it is in the best interest of Ferelden.

The game sets it up so both decisions are valid.

Note the bolded. Anora was no danger to Fereldan after Loghain was taken care off. And both decisions are valid that doesn't mean both options are equally wanted by him. Alistair himself says he rather follow and be a little weak. Two things that Kings can not do. Nor should they.

Unhardened Alistair does pretty badly as king too does he not? Instead of actually ruling he spends most of his time trying to get away from it all to little avail. A king with no desire to lead or rule is not in Fereldan's best interests.

Yeah you made the guy the one thing he spent the whole game telling you he didn't want to do. I'd have dumped you too. XD

That said I wouldn't reload if I were you. You're in for a lot more tragedy. *laughs evilly*

Though I'm an Alistair fan and I never got the breakup speech. ...That said I hardened him without realizing and suggested being his- urgh....yeah.

Though honestly Alistair is miserable as king I don't see why you'd make him king unless you planned on being chancellor or queen. He's much happier if the two of you remain grey Wardens together.

This is one way of looking at it. There are others. ;)

*Hands KiddDaBeauty the tissues and pats her on the shoulder*  This has happened to most of us Alistairians. I was so shocked on my first playthrough I choose to re-load. Do what you think is best, as Tuppence said you can always play again. Keep the tissues and join us in the Gush Thread when you are ready, we're a nice bunch and  we have a day dedicated to Alistair smut. Image IPB

True but why would you expect to have a happy ending with the king who doesn't want to be king if you're not queen is something I'll never understand. :innocent:

It's like making your boyfriend president and then act shocked when he dumps you because you're an unsuitable match. He's barely accepted as it is, he didnt want the job in the first place, and trying to force you on the rest of the populace will just turn even more people against him and he's in over his head. There's just no way that's going to end well.

That said it's probably because of my love for romantic drama that I saw that coming a mile away.

Unhardened, that's true.  Hardened, not so much.

OP, my advice- reload and make Anora sole ruler.  Others have told you not to do it and to play it through, so you decide.  :)

Oh, I think replaying Landsmeet would be fine.  I just wouldn't go all the way back to harden Alistair.

*edited to add:  If you ever decide to play a human noble female and want to go for the royal wedding, I highly recommend downloading Dahlia's mod - http://social.biowar...m/project/3288/

And also for replays of any origin with Alistair as a love interest, this mod is a must-have! - http://social.biowar...m/project/2573/

I'm talking about unhardened of course because the OP didn't harden Alistair.

And I don't see him as being happy to be king even if hardened more like gaining the confidence to think he'd actually do a decent job.

It was an amazing emotional roller coaster.  For me, yes, I ended up with the worst of the heartbreaking Alistair endings (I won't spoil here, but i'll just say... Alistair gave me NO choice when it got there so you know what i mean).  And it was amazing, playing the game, no spoilers, not sure what to expect -- I love tragic romances.  I cried so much.

I know what you're referring to.  I have a friend who got that ending on her first try, along with being dumped.  She was so upset that she deleted the game from her drive and never looked back.  It's too bad she wasn't willing to give it another try, because she's missed so much.  But she was heartbroken.  She said she had never gotten that upset by a computer game.

It heleped that i completed Zevran's romance, especially since I turned down his gift the first time and was spiteful enough to want to invite him to the tent in front of Alistair (THAT turned out to be a shock as well).  But my ending was such a mix of heartbreak and happiness -- it was pretty amazing.

Edit: It's pretty amazing when a video game can get that type of reaction.  It took me awhile before i forgave Alistair and quit doing playthroughs where i was deliberately spiteful to him (so immature, i know it).

I have great empathy for you. I'm starting to think that the Landsmeet is a giant two fingered retort to the gamer and their plans for Ferelden.

It really sort of is isn't it?

I have to make another suicidal Cousland one of these days. The only question is if they should be male or female.

"You say that as if I'm giving you a choice."

God damn you, Alistair. I didn't go with Morrigan's deal mostly because I didn't want to hurt you any further, and I wanted you to be able to forget me eventually. And then you said that... I'm frankly quite devastated right now, tears down my cheeks and all. What a good ending. As in, not a good ending, but it was good as in great... you know? ****ing Alistair =/ A hero to the very end, what a guy. Still angry as ****** at him though...

Argh, I wasn't supposed to have survived that. Don't go dying for me, silly man... =(

I think I'll reload my game now from before the Landsmeet and see what had been different had I just put Anora on the throne. I figure things will be very different, especially since Morrigan's deal suddenly looks very interesting - I don't want to lose my future with Alistair after all. I'll consider that my "alternate ending", whatever that ending may entail.

Must say it's amazing how you lot crept out of the wood work to comment and check in on my playthrough like this btw, heehee.

EDIT: At least Anora promised me to make an Alistair statue in his memory.

I'm quite glad that Alistair forces himself to sacrifice himself, actually. It's fitting. Very fitting. In the movies (bear with me on this one) it's always the big, hulking, charming man that saves the day in the end, and what better way to do with then giving your life for your loved one?

I got that my first time.  Then there was much swearing and tears.

Great game.

Edit:  Any regrets on not reloading right away?
