He'd have split to Orlais naturally.

We know that. The question was what he would do if, for whatever reason, he stayed in Ferelden.

1) Preempted Loghain's employment of the Crows and doubled the offer allowing Zevran to assassinate Loghain.

2) Invoked the right of conscription on mass.

3) Set aside the Teyrn's and focused on the remaining treaties.

4) Sort to persuade the Dwarve's to collapse the deep roads access.

5) Exposed the Chantries use of Lyrium as a control drug and separated the Circle of Magi from the Chantry.

6) Employed the Elves as a terrorist unit to force the AD to allocate resources away from its intended targets.

7) Delayed, delayed, delayed the impending confrontation.

8) Bought cookies.

9) Learnt not to stand so close to the fire.

10) Let me run the show.

I argue that he would not have bought cookies. He would have 5 finger discounted them. Just in a more stealthy way then Sten

Sober now.

Glaucon, thi is like the crazy mage in the forest. Have you no sense for the rules? You must stay within the confines of the game choices.

Lol  I'm just being deviant.  I've had a bad few days at work and was up for some light hearted banter.  I hope no one took me too seriously.  Probably the wrong thread for it but hey?

Can you kill that crazy fool in the Brecillian forest?  I tried but he just teleports and stops the fight.

Yes but you have to reach into his personal dark hole [his tree-trunk stump home](pun intended, you'll see when you do this) or have Lellianna/Zevram do it.  IIRC Zev vontunteers.

You get the three items, and the old man goes aggro on you and stops teleporting.  He has demonic company.

Ian Polaris is correct but left out one thing - you have to do it before you complete the Dalish Treaty quest.  After that he won't attack you as the game won't let you reach into the stump.

Fascinatingly . . . if you DO kill him, leave the zone, and come back . . . it turns out there WERE people looking for him as they are ransacking his camp.  A LOT of people.  Makes for an enjoyable group fight with extra combat XP.

Duncan would definitely do the Ultimate Sacrifice. It is the only proven way to destroy the Archdemon, and even if he accepts that Morrigan's ritual would work, he would not take the risk of the Archdemon living on (or the Old God being tainted again to become Archdemon once more).

Furthermore, Duncan knows his own Calling is near (I believe Alistair even says so at one point), and would not have hesitated to sacrifice himself.

That said, Morrigan might have convinced Alistair to do the DR (possibly in secret), if it meant saving Duncan's life.

Interesting.  I had never thought of it, but you may be right.  The only reason that might not fly is that Alistair does in fact know that Duncan's begun having nightmares again, ie, his Calling is upon him.  But, if, in this AU, Alistair didn't know Duncan's time was near at hand, he might very well do the DR to save his mentor and surrogate father.
