Hm, I remember Mike Laidlaw saying something facetiously to the effect of "We don't have time to cut things, you'll just have to make do with more!" (regarding the amount of spells specifically) but I suppose that was a while ago and things change. Or maybe I remembered that incorrectly.

Yes us, the forum members who cling to every tiny scrap of knowledge being released. Even some of the devs who spend a lot of time here sometimes forget that they've mentioned some small thing that forumgoers promptly remind them of. When you know the entire scope of things it's sometimes hard to remember what has and has not been revealed. I experience this myself when, for example, someone is playing a game I finished awhile ago and talking to me about it. Hard to keep track of what they know and what might be spoilers.

It's no wonder they turned it into a console game when every gaming media site is asking them "hey is the console version better? we only care about the console version, will it be good?" Not to mention the whole "we're making it more of an action RPG" thing, which just irritates me. We don't have enough action RPGs? We need more? Because I was under the impression that real tactical RPGs were actually what was lacking, which was why Origins was such a breath of fresh air. Turning it into what every single other RPG has been lately isn't awesome, it's tired and lame.

The kids don't want tactics. I just read today about the new Splinter Cell game coming and everyone is like "boy I hope it's even more of a shooter than Conviction was." Why can't we have stealth games? Why does everything have to be easy and action packed? Why do I feel like I'm a cranky old bastard in the gaming world and I'm barely into my 30s?

It's depressing.

Regarding the console version: it sucked. Hardcore. Playing it after playing the PC version was a punishment. I do not understand how DA:O could have sold so well on consoles given how absolutely crap it was; Bioware has to make this game playable on consoles or IMO they will lose business.

That doesn't mean they need to change the PC version. They already have a great UI from DA:O. All the PC version needs is a clone of what we got in DA:O. For them to change anything would be outright horrible.

In the end, we won't know what DA2 will be like until we get our hands on it.

You can't really blame XBoxAchievements.com for asking about the console version.

That's true, and we do discuss the same subject over and over here every day. It's easy to remember the everything. The devs have to remember a lot more :?

True enough... it carries over into every website though.  Every review had to mention it was a PC port, every article afterward had to mention it wasn't as good.  When I **** about bare-bones console ports on the PC I'm told I'm an elitist and to shut up, but as soon as a console game smells of PC origins it's some kind of travesty.

Was what?  A pc port shoehorned into a console?  Yes, I know.  Pretty much every game is a console port shoved onto a PC and when PC gamers complain no one cares, that's my point.

And yes, I know it's because consoles are more popular, I don't need that explained to me.

I mean it was a travesty, so it's less a case of "don't want it to be a pc port" and more "don't want another travesty"

Ah... well, I never played it.  I watched the giantbomb quick look of the Xbox version and it seemed alright, but then it was early on.  In any event there have been many ports to the PC I would consider pretty broken... Borderlands' menus for instance, or the "one button does everything" design of Mass Effect 2 even.  Can I get a statement about not using one-button design in Mass Effect 3 on PC?  That would be cool.

Sigh... don't mind me tonight, I'm more pissy than usual.  I spent the last hour or so reading comments about Splinter Cell needing to be more stupid and it just put me in a bad mood.

Yeah, well lets not have them do a 180 and have DA2's PC version be a travesty this go around.

I have both the console version and the PC version of Origins, I fully support bringing the console version up to standards.

I see... nothing wrong with it. It's when you bring the PC version down to the console version that you run into problems.

That's not a corollary. It's a concern certainly, but I think it's been reasonably addressed with the effort to design seperate GUIs.

Well thats certainly admirable, yet they're seemingly scaling back the Tactical cam and more likely than not abandoning the toolset, 2 big PC features from origins. I'm fine with them making the console version better, but if I'm paying for DA2 as a PC game and playing it on my PC, I expect it to be at least as good of a PC game as Origins. Considering how woeful a PC game ME2 is, the last multiplat "simultaneously" developed game BioWare did, added in with the short dev time, I won't be convinced DA2 is anything but a PC port until we can actually see the PC version in action and not just another interview/article saying "Oh, its fine we developed them all at the same time" or yet another console preview that says how we can all have our cake and eat it too!

At 3 months out, they need to be showing, not telling.

Agreed. Laidlaw said to expect a gameplay video "soon, quite soon" a few days ago and it's almost December.. so we're a month out from the signature edition cut-off date basically. I'm sure something is coming out relatively soon. Hopefully. November seemed like a very information-dry month overall.

Spot on, man.

I remember when Infinity Ward tried to put out the fire on Modern Warfare 2's lack of dedicated servers and mods by saying "it has tons of PC exclusive features like mouse support!"  It showed just how ignorant many of these developers and publishers are about what PC gamers expect.  Of course most of the time I think they're just playing ignorant, they know what we want and they know the sales numbers on the PC are the reason we aren't getting it.

I don't really have a problem with developers treating the PC as a second-class platform, I have a problem with gamers turning their backs on the PC as a gaming system as soon as Western RPGs and shooters moved to consoles.

That said if you're going to release a PC version at least try to make it feel like a PC game, that's all I ask.  If it's not even worth the money it would cost to change the UI and increase the draw distance then nevermind, don't bother.

So, what did he say about sex? I'm too busy to listen to the interview. And after reading all the complaints, I don't want to listen to the interview. So someone just paraphrase for me what he said about sex.

It showed just how ignorant many of these developers and publishers are about what PC gamers expect.

What are you talking about here?  If anything it proved they knew exactly what they were doing and what "gamers expected", considering how well it did on the PC and how many "complainers" bought the game.
The idea that ignorance is predicated by ignoring PC complaints on message boards is laughable.  Almost all the people who complain day in and day out are the exact same people who have been for months and just like every other time, if the game is good regardless of what these outliers say, will end up being bought in droves.  And when I say good, I am talking about the product AS IS, not as the product a person, personally, desires.

That said if you're going to release a PC version at least try to make it feel like a PC game, that's all I ask.  If it's not even worth the money it would cost to change the UI and increase the draw distance then nevermind, don't bother.

Why would they do what "you" ask?  Specially when most of the "you"s will end up buying the game anyway? Nobody spends the amount of time and dedication on a game specific forum(months on end), and end up not buying it, on average.
The outright dedication to a product, that a person seemingly has nothing but complaints about, yet still shows a rather large amount interest... is questionable behavior.  And ends up largely easy to ignore, since it rarely if ever has any real bearing on how the product sells.

Sex is part of the relationship and not the end goal.

And it's an article, not a video.

GUI is only a subset of UI. It's not enough that the interface looks pretty and that the mouse wheel works, the game (and indeed any application) has to take advantage of the resources available to it, whether that be a ten button controller or a >100 key keyboard+mouse. ME2 was spectacularly bad at this, in sharp contrast to ME1 which was actually a very decent console port. DA:O could have done more with the quickbar, too (like use modifier keys the way NWN did).

We can, it's the other way around it gets tricky.
