Greetings All,

A little help please! I just got the "Storm of Zehir" expansion installed, patched up to 1.0.23.1765.When I try to open the Toolset, I get the message "Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset has stopped working, A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Needless to say, it never does.

I'm running Windows 7 home Premium on a Gateway FX6831Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 860 @ 2,8 GHzMemory: 16.0 GBSystem type: 64 bit

Is there a site where I can download a fresh version of the toolset?

Sounds like a .net problem. Make sure you have whatever version installed that the game requires. There's been lots of discussion about Win7 compatibility issues on these boards that could help you too. And I'm pretty sure there's a sticky in the Technical Support forum below this one (or the general forum at the top) about how to get NWN2 working on Win 7 that's worth a read.

That is probably your problem.NWN2 requires DirectX9c. DirectX 11( which is what you probably have like me) is not fully backwards compatible. You will need to either install directx 9c from your disk or d/l it.

Install 9c over 10 or 11. And it will add the necessary files that you need. It will not overwrite 10 or 11 just add the files that 9C uses that arent included in 10 or 11.

Then it should work fine. You may also have to run as admin or run in compatibilty mode.( If you didnt have to do this for the game itself you probably dont need to for the toolset).

Here is the d/l link to MS directx 9c: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=9930EFA6-9F7B-4C8A-AEA2-97DD6AB307A2&displaylang=en

Actually, you can just install Direct X9.0c. It doesn't replace or co-opt later versions of Direct X. It is not a downgrade. They are so vastly different from each other that they can peacefully co-exist on your hard drive. So no worries. I tried to post in this earlier (right after you posted Bubba) though my ISP was having conniptions and it didn't post.

I agree, this sounds like it could be a .net problem. A lot of times you have to attempt to clean out the .net settings (somehow) and then restart the .net installation process with NWN2 already there. It's so strange, to be sure, but there have been a range of issues tied directly to .net and the toolset not launching for which there is no good solid answer. Some folks have no troubles whatsoever and others wrestle with it for days, weeks even. It all seems to boil down to one of two things:

Either Direct X 9.0c has to get installed (easy peasy) or;

.Net has to be toyed, coaxed and begged with to get working properly.

There is another thread in this very forum that has a lot of information in it that discusses toolset not loading areas >25MB which you might also find useful. Sorry, no link, I'm still waking up.

The Toolset FAQ isn't a bad idea, either -- for reading, that is. There are some helpful tips in there for Vista/Win7 issues, too.
