So its confirmed we can't upgrade companion inventory, at all?

"Yeah. Varric right here – I forget the name of the weapon – has this badass crossbow that's really really cool. That's his signature weapon that he uses throughout. It's still that kind of Medieval themed though, with swords, axes and that kind of thing. People really identify with and love that universe, so we'll do our swords and shields here, and then we have our Mass Effect for the laser blasters and so on."
Yep, looks like, in addition to having static armor, companions will also have static weapons. Really, I'm wondering if its time to just drop the illusions that this is going to be anything like a party based game. I've honestly ceased to care about the party in this game at all, and am hoping to do my first run solo (if BioWare doesn't force us to bring party members along, and someone doesn't figure out how to hack the game) Considering that loot is exclusively for Hawke, its likely we'll be seeing a slightly refined version of the ME2 system for Hawke, with inventory being rare, and mostly cosmetic, and all the real numbers being handled by the rune system
And it also looks as if console gameplay is being dumbed down to the point where I could play it in my sleep. Lets hope "Santa" is in the mood to give me a shinny new laptop this year, 'cause there's no way in hell I'm upgrading my current computer to support DAII, and pretty much no chance I'm gonna buy the piece of Hack and Slash trash that most reviewers make the console game out to be, and honestly, considering that BioWare is clearly exaggerating the differences between PC, and console gameplay, it might end up being just a "rent for console, play until rent expires, then go back to WoW until Diablo III comes out" game.

Money, dear boy.

Unfortunately, even if they aren't completely static, it's almost guaranteed that these signature weapons will be universally superior to all other weapons wieldable by the character, making the inventory completely irrelevant. After all, if oyur going to give them a unique weapon, why not have them wield it for the rest of the game?
Or, nearly as bad, the signature weapon could be achieved through some sort of loyalty mission, and force our companions into cookie cutter builds, further beating that dead, rotting thing in the corner that was the concept of party based games.

You know, if you weren't 900+ with Balrog issues, I'd take that as a compliment
I take a more modest approach, preferring to wait a little more rather than overreacting to one interview...If a second interview mentions it or someone confirms it here, I'll accept it more willingly. If anything, I take a journalistic approach to things like this, two sources or it doesn't exist

Erm, strange point of note, but it's unlikely to be above and beyond specwise anything else that's coming out next year. Or indeed is out already, it's cross platform with 5 year old consoles.Archereon wrote...

I suppose it's the weapon that will appear in screenshots and concept arts? Like Morrigan's Robes. They get obsolet really fast and you don't need to use it, but she's with them in all official screenshots.

Lol, if you saw what computer I'm using now, you'd understand why I'm not going to upgrade it. If its a choice between a $800-$1100 computer (my computer barely runs WoW in its current state, honestly I'd have to gut it and replace every piece to get it to run a better game.) and basic living expenses, its the latter all the way.

$800? Again, where are you getting these numbers?

We'll see, play it before you buy it, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
I do indeed plan to rent it regardless of whether or not it gets good reviews or looks at all good to me.
But I'll be genuinely shocked if BIoware manages to make gutting one of the most fundamental elements of an RPG (for self identified loot W****s like myself) enjoyable, if even tolerable.

Well it apparently runs DA:O and ME2, so it's not like you're shoveling coal into it.Archereon wrote...

Whatever, you can stay ignorant if you want but every interview I see and every piece of evidence that I get all point to a conclusion that I have suspected for a long time.
