I am also seeing the loss of visual customization as the only real loss. And that is... unimportant. When it comes down to "I just don't like the visuals" you enter into an arena of pure subjectivity which is utterly pointless to argue.
Choice is not part of the issue here. There is no choice lost. Changing companion's cloths is not "choice."

it is choice, only an aesthetic one.

Sort of. I know I often have people hanging around in sub optimal gear purely for the looks, but much of the time it's a problem rather than a choice. You calculate which is better for the task at hand and move on.

Unless you detach the look from the numbers, which has it's own pros and cons.

Aesthetic choice is only a choice based on semantics. It does nothing for the play in the game. The issue with it is inside your head and you can dismiss it with as much ease or difficulty as you can dismiss any other idea in your own head.

i'm not haberman13:P, i really couldn't care less if outfits are static or not.

i'm into dragon age for the plot/characters and lore.:wizard:

Then why bother pointing out something as semantic as you just did?

Well, how nice of you to dismiss others' prerogatives out of hand.  Image IPB  That does simplify discussion for you.

But subjectivity is part of the discussion, in that not everyone is going to like an outfit just because the artists at BioWare think it's cool.  If I can choose companion armors, however, then I can make the game more to suit my taste, and since it's my money and free time, the more I can make the game suit my taste the better an investment it's going to be.  Besides the fact that I consider these choices an integral part of an RPG and something I enjoyed in DAO.

because to me a choice is a choice no matter how small or insignificant it is.
wether i find that choice important or not is irrelevant.

or maybe i just did it for kicks, we shall never know...

And since this thread has become about exactly the same thing as the "Fighting Naked" thread-- ie. companions and their armor appearances-- I'm going to shut this one down, to save people from repeating their arguments ad nauseum in two separate places.

Yet another fine example of how not to write a post.

Aesthetics isn't important in a hack and slash game, perhaps.

Really? This was an issue?

Yes, for me it was.  When I found some distinctive armor for the various NPC's in the game, I almost always kept them in it unless I found a serious upgrade.  During big melee battles, it was always almost impossible for me to see where my party members were.  (The only time I used the overhead camera was when I couldn't find them.)  That doesn't make me stupid.  It makes me blind, but not stupid. Image IPB  Having distinctive outfits for my party members is great, as far as I'm concerned.  I won't have to constantly be searching, (and killing my eyes,) trying to find them because they look the same as the people we're fighting.
