Ah, well, the rest of the info isn't terribly interesting. Still, thanks for elaborating.

It's called War in the North.  It sounded very promising in the Gamepro preview, but I'm much less impressed by the details.  There's hardly anything on the story or characters, it's all about combat and loot.  It is designed to be a multiplayer, so there's going to be a generic elf tracker, dwarf warrior and human wizard (!!!! the Tolkien nerd in me flails) as your party.  Not much characterization going to happen there.

Yeah, I think its being made by the same people that did the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games. SO its a hack and slash, truly.

Yes, we're well past the point where people with what I would call a sensible view of spoilers can read previews or watch videos.

The last piece of DA2 media I watched was the  muted CGI trailer, on your advice.

Jeez, Monica. You've never actually posted complete sentences, but a single fragment?

Prior to DA2, I hadn't paid much attention to the gaming press previews: Are they always this poor? Is it really so hard to get the names of characters right? There's nothing much in the way of information in any of the previews I've seen, and it seems like they always have stuff that anybody who followed the boards here regularly knows is wrong.

Yes.

The state of gaming journalism is appalling.  Especially since you can hardly call it journalism, given how often they simply parrot talking points rather than actually investigate anything.

To be fair, more and more the mainstream media do the same thing, so it's not like gaming journalists are unique in their failings.

How is anybody taking this review seriously? Honestly, I stopped worrying what this preview had to say after the fourth paragraph... nothing they said that we know, including references to the first game, is correct. This article is simply poorly researched and written by someone who (kind of) listened to someone else describe it for 20 minutes at best.

A thousand times this. It shocks me to no end that Gawker lets its writers use "****" in their articles, and article descriptions.

Looking good so far. Especially like the changes with the approval rating-system with your companions, seemed like it was too easy to exploit in Origins, e.g. you do an action/decision your companion disagrees strongly on, just fix it with a few gifts...

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Im actually kinda happy they got rid of the non-conversation gifts. In Origins, I remember wanting to replace the gifts with more conversations and scenes that increase approval, like KotOR 2.

I really hope they dont ditch the approval system, though. I really liked that in DA2.

However, i would like some changes, namely, i want the actual meter to be removed and invisible, so you cant see how much your companion likes you. And it just says "Approval gained" instead of giving a No. Again, like what KotOR 2 had

Why? Because the approval system was too "mathamatical". You cant measure that your friend likes you 87.48 out of 100. You just have to think and take and educated guess about their feelings toward you based on past interactions and the way he/she responds when you talk to them. KotOR 2 nailed this 100% IMO, and its one of the reasons that it is my most played game of all time.

Agree or Dissagree?

I don't think the meter itself is a big problem, but how it is implemented.

When playing DA:O I had a tendency of looking at the numbers and thinking to myself that their is the possibility that the relationship could improve more, when clearly that was not the case. A simple color bar could actually negate the purpose of displaying the percentages all together. It would also make the relationship bar behave exactly the same for both the PC and the console. Then the player won't have to wonder so much if the character could become even friendlier or meaner to the player. =]

:?

I wonder if perhaps there's a market for game-magazines who actually employs journalists to do journalism? Because this was simply more parroting the scant information provided by Bioware. If my motor-cycle magazine wrote:

"The new Ducati features an engine, and we have it from Ducati that it simply the best engine there is. The indicator-lights flashes once a second, in bright yellow, no matter the weather conditions, and we are informed the cycle will be able to withstand rain." :crying:

I'd cancel my subscription.

Sorry, off topic, but the state of these "previews" are appalling.

Most of the people writing news on DA2 have never played the first game.  Others only played the console version for an hour or two.

Mike Laidlaw has even had to come out and make blatant corrections to some of the statements released.

The new combat system is pretty damn fast.

Can we expect Bayonetta-like combat in DA3?

I think the problem is that they DO have journalists writing up these articles. Way back, when gaming journalism was in it's infancy and there were maybe a small handful of mags dedicated to writing on games. The articles were written by true gaming enthusiasts and imo were of a much higher quality. An average game back then received like a 5 or 6 out of 10, now it seems as if ratings for games have gone through some sort of inflation where an average or even disappointing game receives a 70 or 80.... even a 90 sometimes. It's beyond ridiculous. And the articles tacked onto these scores really don't add anything, infact sometimes the articles seem to contradict the score given to the same game.

It's a relief for me, this approval/rival system. I am so sick of the old way--changing my actions just because I'm trying to boost my party stats. It inhibits roleplaying.

This rival system is a good thing, 'cause I don't have to flirt with Zevran.

I got max approval with Zevran without flirting.

Looks like they took all character choice out,  made replays dead or redundant and took the franchise on a tangent.
They just took the cheap easy route basically. The orriginal Dragon age was a classic, this looks like a knock off, I will pass.

Yes, I'm sure DA2 was cheap to make. -holds up sarcasm sign-
