The tag is vague and pointless because it isn't used with any consistent definition.

And it isn't used with consistent definition because it is so vague and pointless.

Not arguing with you, just wondering where the cycle started.

The first marketing department to decide that it would make their RPG seem more hip. That's my guess.

RTFPSMMORPTBSG

(Real Time First Person Shooter Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Turn Based Strategic Game)

I am a genius.

Nice interview. She seemed a bit nervous but enthusiastic and sincere.

New combat system is believable, but who wanted new graphic style?

*considers*
*raises hand*

The graphics in Dragon Age: Origins weren't terrible but I wouldn't call them great either. When I first started playing around with the toolset, I realized there were a large number of evironmental details the eye just glazes over, I suspect because of the muted, earthy coloring.

I also hated the heavy and massive armors. Having high gothic platemail does not convey the feeling of a 'rough' nation 'one bad day away from reverting to barbarism.'

I actually liked the art direction of DA:O. There were some texture issues and the absence of cloaks, bow strings and sheaths were a bit odd but the graphics looked fine to me. I would like to think the reason things looked "muted (and) earthy" was due to the fact that Ferelden was a cold, wet, relatively poor kingdom recently rebuilding from civil war against the occupation forces of Orlais. It made sense to me for the architecture and outfits of the people to be a little drab and worn down. Image IPB

Why didn't they just add dismemberment?

That's the hip thing nowadays... right?

Yes, except their architecture wasn't drab and worn down, it was just bland. If they wanted to convey 'cold, wet, and relatively poor,' they should have looked at the environments in NWN 2 and the Witcher. The starting town in NWN 2 looked like a place where the gene pool had shrunk to a puddle. The slums of Vizima looked like they'd smell of cat ******.

You don't suggest wetness and poverty with tan buildings.

Hey now, let's not knock actual action RPGs. Deus Ex was a triumph. DA:2 just ain't an action RPG.

I know it was some time ago, but the posts about "dumbing-down" the conversations bothered me. Having listened to all the BioWare podcasts, read the GI pieces, and seen the PAX interviews, I think it's pretty clear that the "paraphrase" is what you'll be able to read in the dialogue wheel (along with an icon to represent the "tone of voice") BEFORE you select it.

The VA will then deliver the actual dialogue, which may well be considerably more elaborate than the "phrase". The idea is to prevent totally surprising the player though not having enough information to understand the potential impact of a given selection.

(ME's: "This conversation is over!" anyone?)

I'll agree that NWN 2's swamp town was very atmospheric. Perhaps DA:O didn't speak to you as civilizations worn down and built back upon but it did to me. Ostagar was a ruin, so were the Kocari Wilds. Lothering was fairly much a tent town and had an interesting appeal to it to me. I was actually sad I couldn't revisit it past a certain point as it had more appeal than the mage tower or Honnleath. I'm not sure I want any towns to "smell of cat ******" But the elven Alienage looked pretty fitting for a ghetto. Image IPB

One of Bioware's better PR jobs definitely, and the whole forget it's coming out on consoles for a split second is cute.
I wonder just how much Bioware listens to fan feedback? Hopefully we won't be saddled with another Hawke-style PC next game.
