Exactly! I'm not for killing off all the major character and companions just to satisfy my unquenchable thirst for drama. But a few would be nice but it would be nice if the option is there. Like in ME2 - you know that people can die if you make the wrong choices, and that makes it more personal and shows that more is at stake.
One thing that genuinely got me was when my warden and Alistair was up against the archdemon. I had kind of planned that I would sacrifice my warden, who was romancing Alistair, just to get a heart-wrenching text in the epilogue. You know, for sh*ts and giggles. Instead that SOB went and sacrifized himself. I was traumatized, at least for the rest of the evening.
Edit: Ugh, grammar.
Ugh, same. My face was D8 when Alistair went and offed himself. Zevran, similarly, made my heart twinge with his few heavy lines at the city gates. Regardless of whether or not you took him with you, you still felt
so. freaking. terrible. I almost regretted romancing him if only because, holy God, the heartache he would get if the warden died. And then if you sacrificed yourself, his epilogue made me D8, too.
So I agree; drama is amazing, and I don't think it should always be avoidable. But too much of it, and I think I would permanently set down my controller due to my inability to make the D8 face go away.
