I didn't think it had to do with breeding at all, I thought it was just being in their presence...almost like kryptonite!

I could be completely wrong, I'm no expert on the lore.

neither am i, but i think the explanation actually makes a bit of sense, basically in a union between a "current" elf and a human always results in a human, but what i'm speculating is that an union between an "arlathan/ancient" elf and a human could result in a "current" elf or a human, after years of these communities being together a time came where an union between elves and humans only resulted in humans. facing this, the elf race secluded itself in order to avoid the extinction of their race.

Do we know how long an elf would have to be in contact with humans to lose their immortality? I always got the impression it was something that happened over decades or generations, not like handshake with a human = ten years off your life, hug = crow's feet, etc.

Contact with 1 human = 1 carton of cigarettes.

If that was the case, we'd still have the original Arlathan elves running around.  I was under the impression they started aging, jsut by having humans present.

i didn't explain it very well but, what i'm saying is by the time the union between elves and humans only resulted in humans, most if not all of the elven race was composed by half-breeds already.

and then as a finishing blow, the tevinter mages erased arlathan from existence and these "pure" elves with it.

in the aftermath, the tevinter mages might have found a passed out arlathan elf, namely in this theory, meg

I wikied it and it seems to be some kind of mixture of them both.

"They traded with the Imperium and grew friendly with humans, but soon discovered that breeding with humans produced only human babies, due to the elves' genetic adaptability, while exposure to the ‘quick children’ caused the elves to quicken themselves. For the first time, elves began to age and die.

In fear, the elves withdrew from human contact, but the Imperium interpreted this as a sign of hostility and invaded Elvhenan, the elven homeland, and enslaved its people. The elven people lost their immortality and their gods forsook them."

I wonder how that would work, genetically? I mean, even if both your parents have brown eyes you can still get blue eyes - even if brown is the dominant gene both your parents could be carrying the recessive gene for blue eyes. So if becoming a human is the dominant gene, if two humans who both had an elf and a human as parents and therefore carried the 'elf' gene got a child, that child could be born as an elf?

That would be an amazing sitcom.

I read it more like the elven genes are completely taken over by the human genes, so essentially there's nothing elven about the elf-bloods or whatever they are called.

current day elves yes that would be the case, my theory however is that it took time until this phenomena actually happened.

No, I think its more like dominant and recessive genes....well I guess, only the writers know for sure :D

Imagine the drama if this elf would reject his heritage and commit to a human.

Such delicious and powerful drama.

My personal theory on elven aging was that the Tevinter Magisters essentially bled their immortality out of them one blood magic spell at a time, as opposed to simply "being there" which was always a pants explanation from the get go, and would actually give Tevinter a reason for sacking Arlathan beyond the fact it was simply "there"; elfblood was good for big spells. Which could explain how Meg made it through the centuries, and possibly other survivors as well, I mean the Tevinter Imperium was pretty powerful but it would be next to impossible for them to that thorough and wipe all traces of the old elves away.

I also have a theory that human mages are actually the result of early elven/human cross breeding, we know elves used to be a lot more "magical" and it seems like humans as a whole are borderline. It would be funny if elves orginnaly passed on magic to humans vis a vis cross breeding, not mention it would also add a delicious hint of irony that Arlathan's descendants (mages) came back and destroyed it, totally unaware that they were destroying part of their own heritage

I still prefer to the theory I figured out a few pages back, that MEG is a slave of some sort, perhaps belong to a Tevinter magister, or that Qunari commander in vid. That's the only explainable reason why he has glowing tattoo so similar to Shale.

Another theory I had but not completely rule out is he's the final product of Golem Amgarrak started.

EDIT: Oh, and we also pointed out MEG looks a lot like Valen Shadowbreath, David's first BioWare creation, minus the horn, red hair, and tail.

Coincidence? I don't think so.

I don't see that much similarity to be honest. Different artist, different visual language. I guess they both seem sort of aloof?

Non-serious theory: MEG has something to do with the promise Maric made to Flemeth in The Stolen Throne.

Serious theory: He's some sort of agent for Flemeth. I still want to say he has a villainous look to him.

I agree, I think he will have some sort of antagonistic role, which may not be clear or evident at first.

My only issue with that is that I don't see Flemeth as a "bad guy." She is far above and beyond the comprehension of anyone, including her own daughter, wise enough to understand that her survival depends on the survival of others (encouraging the Warden to end the Blight), and... I guess I just doubt that she'd need a spy, or do anything that could be perceived as "evil" without it being irrevocable by the time anyone figures out her plan. Like Ozymandias. If she has to do something that would earn her enemies, it'll be done "35 minutes ago."

At least that's my perception of her. So if any of that is true, then if MEG is working for her, he is doing so on a voluntary basis. Which... makes me doubt the theory, because the tiredness/creepy glowing veins don't seem like the thing one would voluntarily subject themselves to.

Now I'm imagining tiefling Meg... :happy:Woohoo, next NWN2 character. Meg looks like a Chaotic to me... the question is, Good or Neutral?

He does look rather antagonistic to me, too - that was my first thought. Well, my second, actually. My first was more along the lines of 'HOT DAYUM :o'

Though I'm still hoping he's an Arlathan-survivor-assassin-party-member-love-interest. I can just imagine the Rivalry romance path with him.

Maybe he gets something better in return?
