Yes, we've seen downtrodden City Elves. But at least they had each other. And Meg looks like he lost SOMETHING. Be it friends, family or a part of himself... I don't know.

But looking in his eyes...Your probably right Cobra, but what broke him.

Looking that he is emotianally broken doesn't have to mean that he goes all emo on your ass. I've also seen people who had emotinial trouble with bad tempers, or becoming extremly reckless.

Oh, that's just his way of hiding it, so he doesn't appear weak. It's the eyes that give it away...

Maybe...weary of life?
I said on earlier page that Meg could've been a slave of a Tevinter Magister who tinkered with his body, that would explain the tatoo's. I mean he could've escaped, and started a life of his own. But still, if all your family and friends grow old and die before you and there is nothing you can do about it why you yourself stay and beautifull. Yeah I would get pretty sick of that as well.... 

Like Nightcobra says, he carries baggage in his eyes. So he has seen some things that can't be unseen.

Of course it could be a more simple reason.
