how does the game handle flying creatures? is actually possible to make one and, effectively, void close-range attacks?

Since no one answered this yesterday, here are my impressions, which might be wrong.
Actions like flying are easily handled in cutscenes, but not so easy in combat or normal gameplay.
IIRC there is a CommandFly which allows scripted flight from one point to another, but not sustained flight.
You could make a "hovering" creature model which was at a fixed height above the ground (with animated wings, perhaps).
Regarding attacks with melee weapons, it's relative easy to prevent damage (by intercepting the damage event, for example). Changing creature AI to prevent melee attacks altogether would be much more complicated, but theoretically possible.
