Well, since this is a promotion that started December 1 and since that was yesterday, I'm not sure what you saw "last week". But on the bright side, your imagination is awesome.

They should make a pistol or an assault rifle from Mass Effect. I'd definitely buy that.

I'd like to see some replica ME universe equipment also! Anything really.

Those swords looked nice though.

Did anyone else start when they saw the update in the forum home as "Full size replica Grey Warden"?

Guilty as charged!  I was just thinking that blow-up dolls constituted a step too far for the Bioware store...

Sure, if you want to club them to death.

Those are not combat-grade weapons. They most probably don't have the quality ingredients and forgery it takes to make a decent combat-ready sword, just judging from the price.
Full blown weapons that you can use in combat are for starters around 1000-1500$ depending on what type of sword, what smith and so forth. And don't expect those weapons to be actually good.

Real weapons like people fought with in Feudal times for example are foremostly not forged by now anyway and if, are around a couple of thousands of dollars and heavily restricted in most areas.

It's relatively easy to find decent combat-grade weapons if you are willing to put down $150 or so. For 200-250, you can find top-notch combat-grade weapons.

Combat-grade weapon for $150? Maybe.
Combat-grade sword for $150? LOLno.

Although I haven't seen them selling for quite as little as that (though I wouldn't be so quick to presume there're none to be had), starting prices aren't that much higher.  Armour class sells good quality sharp swords for as little as £190, for example, and Albion's "Next Generation" range which is seen as pretty much the gold standard amongst collectors starts at about £500-600.  Museum-quality swords can be obtained for as little as £1,000.

People confuse "combat grade" and "stage grade" all the time. You can get a decent stage blade for $100-150 sure, but a good combat sword, you're looking at $200+ depending on the dealer. Stage swords are unsharpened and usually unpointed to be used in plays and such. Combat swords aren't meant for blade on blade combat like this. You try it, you could lose a limb.

Collector grade can mean anything. From a $20 set of "Samurai Swords" to a Hanwei to these being shown now.

The "Epic Weapons" Dragon Age swords are stainless steel, you can't even fence with them for practice as you'll chip the blade really badly with every touch against something that's well,  harder than stainless steel. I'm not sure about $1000+ for a battleready blade though, Paul Chen produces some battleready blades for under $500, but they tend to be simplistic and definitely not hand forged.

You could still kill a man with it, as even a blunt blade will do nasty damage with enough force, but just don't try fighting off a zombie apocalypse with it ;p

Also: "The grey warden sword"? It's similar to several ingame designs (I'm thinking mostly Duncan's sword), but it comes across as though the person who wrote the blurb on the website has read the back of the game box, or seen a trailer and little all else. :(

Yes you can get decent real sword for 150$. For example Hanwei/CAS Iberia Practical Katana line. They are cheap, but full-tang construct, differentially tempered blade and sharpened etc... Not most historically accurate in shape, nor the best cutters but they work well enough and are meant to be used. They are often used by practitioners of Iaido or Kendo who are just starting their Tameshigiri practice (cutting practice of wrapped tatami mats or bamboo sticks) and if you damage it by badly by botching up your form, its not a big loss financially until you get more skilled and can afford a higher grade swords, even custom mades.

Western style swords have similar practical starter weapons from different brands, but I am not really familiar with them other than my Lutel bastard sword which I bought some time ago.

A word of warning from former sword hobbyist about these display piece SLO's (sword-like objects), they are just that: Display pieces. They are usually not meant to be swinged around as they are built from stainless steel and tang construct is usually crap badly welded "rat-tail". This kind of tang breaks easily from the handle sending the blade flying and causing damage, even severe injuries or death (has happened before). Also stainless steel is relatively brittle compared to carbon steel which real swords are made from and breaks easily.

At 57" long, concealing that sword would be pretty impressive.  If anyone manages, please let us know.:P

I could conceil it in my pants.

You can get a good combat sword for less. It's Japanese swords that are toys for rich people now, European-style blades are much less popular and therefore cheaper, though quality is easily on par.

There are quite a few companies that make real, high quality swords for HEMA practitioners. At any rate, these babies in the OP are of course not for combat, though I imagine somebody will try to fight with one and get his damn head chopped off when the tang snaps... oh well.

What are you smoking? As someone who is an employed member of a medieval fair that does live combat steel fighting I can tell you for sure that you can get weapons much cheaper than 1000-1500$. The only way you should be paying that much is if you are buying Damascus and even then that's usually closer to 800.

It depends on the fanciness, but star fire is a cheap combat usable brand. (not fancy), and plenty of other places have them for decent prices. Try 100-500$ for most cases with the occasional crazy price sword.

But I can confirm that these are stainless steel and not combat-able. Though who in their right mind charges that much for stainless steal...

Side note I love how everyone jumped on that post, but as someone who does it and trains swords and such, I had to jump in.
