If it were up to all these misinformed journalists, all of DA2 would be about conquering Cornwall while Oghren makes obscene comments about it every couple cut-scenes.

which would be... a nightmare.

Oghren is telling a story to Cassandra, a returning character from Origins, about how the Champion of Cornwall was helped by the Archdemon. Being a wizard, he did stuff.

If I might digress for a moment...

How awesome would it be for Oghren to be the narrator? Even for a brief part of the game. Glorious indeed.

Oghren earned a lot of animosity by being the only returning companion in Awakening and then being butchered. My opinion of him is not so high. I don't hate him like I hate Wynne, but still.

Preachy, tells you to do stuff and yells at you when you do otherwise and wants you to be a servant of everybody. Tells my Mage to go back to the Circle Tower because it's cool. Refuses to let me pass into the Mage Tower without bringing her along, unless I go through the effort of killing her.

If you have the restoration mod, she calls you out on blood magic even though it's fully allowed as a Grey Warden and she calls you no better than Uldred resulting in everybody in the tower attacking you.

It's fairly easy to hate her, though we're going off-topic.

He's a redneck douchebag. Sorry if that offends anyone, but I need to say it.

I live in Arkansas and it doesn't offend me, so I think you're safe.

A redneck Douchebag who also happens to be the most Tragic character in the dragon age franchise

Someone needs to make a pic of Oghren with the caption of "hates gonna hate"

He's honestly the most obnoxious character I've encountered in a Bioware game.

Yup, thats about right. He was fine in Origins, but come Awakening? Ha- he turned into a dwarven Jar Jar Binks with even moodier approval shifts than Morrigan.

I'm so subscribing to a magazine that couldn't put down any more EXTREMELY ACCURATE POINTS if they tried.

Seconded!

Though to make a slight correction, he's not so much a redneck. If he was he would found saying "Felsi, GET BACK IN THA HOUSE!"

He's more of a sterotype of the trainwreck, drunk, dwarf. Not a big fan of him. He had some good moments in Origins, but him in Awakening felt kinda forced.

Edit to get on topic: I'm not too surprised at such bad previews. I used to read Game Informer. :wizard: And so, my work is done! Amagoi.. away!

I think the reason he was acting so differently in Awakening was BW trying to show character progression or something after he went through his confrontation with Branka and getting together with Felsi, but it just turned out... bad.

I felt like Alistair was not well done either. It was weird after he's supposed to play the sweet, trusting, strong-moral-compass kind of character and then in Awakening makes cheesey pompous remarks, calling my warden a, "saucey minx."

How is Bioware not responsible for some level of accuracy here? Do they even care?
Oh well, it's their game.

BioWare wasn't the source for the information in that article. (Well, not directly)
Wikipedia was.

Prove it.

What, really?
Come on...

You WERE joking, right?

The DA2 entry at wikipedia is sparse, but nothing there seems inaccurate to me.  Vague, but not inaccurate.

Yeah. Wikipedia is a better source than whatever that article used.

I haven't played awakenings, so these shifts in character are unknown to me. Lest I be seen as too cynical, let me say that I love all the other npc's in Dragon Age. With a passion. Even the snotty Morrigan. They are all so well written.

Have you even bothered with Oghren, then? He really isn't just some random drunk with no depth to his story whatsoever. There's much more to his character than you give him credit for.
