I'm new but this sounds like a good idea even though it seems unconventional.

Dress her up in tank armor, build up her wisdom to increase her mana pool, keep her Arcane abilities turned off (to save mana).

The idea is to use Arcane Warrior for the sole purpose of dressing her up in quality armor. Then continue to build her healing and buffing abilities and keep her as out of the fight as you can. For those times you simply can't keep your mage out of danger she at least has tough armor protecting her and you can keep your very useful healer in the fight.

No reason why not. Spirit Healer and Arcane Warrior go very well together. Still feels a bit odd though, dressing Wynne up in battle armor...

Give her a huge two-handed hammer while still in her mage clothes and behold epic grandma.

I have considered doing this more than once myself. Could be quite good fun.

I make Wynne an AW and put her in Juggernaut armor most of the time. Your healer should be the best protected NPC since she does the major healing. Making her something else - like Blood Mage - just doesn't seem right from an RP point of view.

Doesn't Heavy Armor attract foes (according to the game, as I ussually notice my Mages and Archers getting all the mayem)...

it's slightly more complicated than that, unfortunately. the game doesn't do a terribly good job of filling players in on the specifics. but the wiki does: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Threat

It depends on the difficulty and the spell the mage use( the higher the difficulty, the less armor rating matters). On nightmare,no taunt and threaten helps if Morrigan cast a misdirection hex on a revenant for example. She gets his "attention" until she or he is dead....
Armor doesnt matter in this case.

Mind Blast whether it stuns or not is the best way to keep a Revenant off of Morrigan's sexy behind. Death Hex, Revanant closes in on Morri, Mind Blast. Get Morri out the way. And Destroy.

I thought Mind Blast only work when the targets are stunned...
Never experienced that.

Anyway, If you decide to make her an Arcane warrior, be prepared to see her healing abilities weaken. Tbh, Arcane warrior and spirit healer don't go very well together. The fatigue penalties from wearing heavy armor and maintaining combat magic (if you ever decide to use it) will cripple her ability to heal (her spells will be very costly). Also in order to stay alive she would need sustains (rock armor, arcane shield etc) which would further cripple her healing ability. On top of this, wearing heavy armor attracts aggro which is exactly what you don't want happening to your healer. Lastly, trying to combine Shimmering Shield and Cleansing aura will strip Wynne's mana in no time at all.

If you do go arcane warrior with her, I'd suggest not equipping her with anything heavier than medium armor and as you said, do not maintain combat magic. Shimmering shield could be useful at certain times, but it's a drain on her mana.

Rock armor, arcane shield, and some decent robes+light armor should be adequate
protection- no need for tank armor. Massive or heavy armor will just pile on some heavy fatigue
and attract foes (causing her to die very quickly).

Seriously,
Blood Mage is easily the best spec for Wynne- it allows her to tap into
a secondary energy source to fuel her powerful healing spells.

On my second playthrough, I tried Wynne as an arcane warrior and it works great. The best armor to put on her is Wade's Superior Dragonscale Armor Set. It has a fatigue of 23% but with the set equipped, you get -20% fatigure which means you have 3% fatigue and very strong armor.
Check it out on the wiki here: http://dragonage.wik...scale_Armor_Set

I also only use the Combat Magic spell if you are surrounded by melee attackers to keep her safe. I love it because you'll have strong armor, awesome healing and mana regeneration. She's definitely my mage to take to the end of the game.

Combat Magic doesn't increase survivability, it only improves weapon damage and allows Magic to be used to meet heavy armor requirements. Counter productive for a healer. Never let her activate CM, just use Shimmering Shield whenever she's in danger.

Well if you combine Combat Magic with Aura of Might and Fade Shroud, you will get quite a bonus to defense. It's good when your mage is under attack.

I make Wynne and Morrigan both arcane warriors in my playthroughs. Ok, who suckered their granny to pose for the pic? LOL!

I've thought of making Wynne a blood mage but I've never done this.  I've made Morrigan a blood mage since I think it favors her personality better.

Exactly what I do all the time. Leave Combat Magic off at the beginning of a fight for healing and equip a good staff, then when things get tight switch CM on and equip e.g. Spellweaver and let her hack away... besides, she's a sexy Gramma in plate armor.

No reason to make a new thread when a moderately recent one exists, so...

I recently put Wynne in the Warden Commander armor set, gave her Spellweaver and one of the Dwarven shields that regens stamina/will at 2 per second. Even with Combat Magic on she never ran out of mana. She also kicked ass and took names.

It awesome to see Wynne wading into battle. I can picture Irving's reaction to seeing his old friend now.

Maric's Blade and Cailan's shield are probably the best weapons to give an AW. they may not give spell power, but the mana regen from them is amazing. Add Andruil's Blessing, Evon the greats mail+wade's superior dragonscale armor, and you have amazing regen and extremely low fatigue, with excellent protections.

Yeah the trick is to give her plenty of mana-regen equipment.

Making Wynne a Blood Mage should result in her leaving your party frankly.

1. Warden AW/BM with a Fatigue set (Warden Commander, Wade's, etc.)

2. Wynne SH/AW with another Fatigue set

3. ???

4. Profit?

Fighting the High Dragon last night was one of the best times ever in my time playing DAO.  It started out one of the bad things that occasionally occur. Party was a little low level to be taking the dragon one, but I figured we could pull it. Dragon is summoned. Combat starts.  Allistir goes goes inside ten seconds. Immediately after that, Lil gets stomped on and drops. My warrior gets tail smacked and clawed, dropping about fifteen seconds after Allistir. A string of lucky HUGE hits by the dragon.

I'm thinking about restarting the fight, but I'm a bloody minded cus that fights to the bitter end every time, so...

Wynne, Arcane Warrior, encased in Warden Commander armor and bearing Spellweaver and shield forged by great dwarven smiths, steps in. Combat Magic up, Heroic Aura on, Arcane Shield active. The ground shakes at her confident stride, and the dragon foolishly revels in it's impending victory, completely unaware that doom approaches.

Hottest woman in the game then proceeds to completely solo the dragon, rarely dropping a heal on herself, never touching the poultices or lyrium pots. Wynne wrecked that dragon, her strikes were fierce and true, her spells devastating, her defenses impregnable. Never losing stride, not once losing her cool and level tone, unrelenting in her assault, she ground the dragon under her heel and claimed it's horde of wealth and arms as her own by right of victory.

Seeing her get the slow mo kill on the high dragon -Wynne!-  was the kind of Epic I wish more games had.  Now all I want is a freaking romance path, because she's Wynne, and she is awesome.

ADDENDUM:  Seeing Wynne, Lady of War smash the Broodmother later on -made even eaiser with Shimmering Shield- was just as awesome.  My poor warden is completely lovestruck.

Wynne is already possessed by a “spirit”… don’t you think that could have something to do with her prattling on about the dangers of blood magic?
