Good people, forget about DA2 and get Drakensang:River of Time. I have heard a lot of praise for it.
The game is PC only, "RPG heavy", it is a skillfully crafted party-based RPG by RPG enthusiasts for RPG enthusiasts. I am already seriously thinking of buying it instead of DA2. It looks way more promising than DA2, particularly in terms of character customisation and the traditional RPG flavour. No dumbing-down guaranteed. Plus, it offers an overhead view! So, I am no longer concerned about the PC version of DA2 because a serious alternative has emerged!
I don't know if Drakensang: River of Time is better but I have the first Drakensang and only played about a third of it (in comparison I have finished DAO 4 times). In the first Drakensang there are no real interactions with you companions and I just saw them as a band of puppets that followed me. I also never felt immersed in the story: I never wanted to progress trough it to know what would happen next. To conclude, my experience with the first Drakensang didn’t give me the urge to try the next one.
Concerning the “buy a console” debate, my answer is simply:
NEVER!None of the gameplay I like is compatible with the controllers of any console. I don’t like action games and I neither bought any ME nor any of the 2 last Fallouts because (for me) there are just shooters. Although it is not a shooter, I have the same problem with the Witcher, I have tried the demo of the first one and the combat system is too much action oriented. Indeed, I find it either worst than the shooters, if sometime I can enjoy a small dose of a shooter; I just considered any fight in the demo of TW as a chore (it is sad as many players consider the story as excellent).
My two main concerns about the PC version of DA2 are the fact that it is announced as more action oriented than the first one and the lost of the tactical camera. I really hope that we will still be able to pause the game to issue orders (without any stupid reflex based fights) and that the completely zoomed out camera will offer an experience similar to the tactical view of the first one.
And the last thing, I really hope that DA2 will be less bugged than Awakening, the huge amount of (unpatched) bugs in this extension ruined my trust in bioware.
