Because I know squat about Xanatos or this gambit, is the Xanatos Gambit related to Xanatos?

Hence why I have the "XANATOS" link in my sig ;)

David Xanatos was my role model growing up.

I only just noticed that you had added a Xanatos link to your sig!

But still, is the term "Xanatos Gambit" related to David Xanatos? I read the TVtropes link and it doesn't seem to be related.

The link says this: "This trope is named after David Xanatos, one of the main antagonists in the series Gargoyles who was a master of the technique, and used it consistently to serve his own ends.
"

He also named the Xanatos Roulette and Xanatos speed chess AND Thirty Xanatos Pileup.
Because he is THAT awesome.

I always end up associating the two as well, which I suspect is a successful gambit on KoP's part.

I made my children watch Gargoyles - so I had an excuse to. They still speak of it with ire.

Owen was my fav though.

I believe Anora was desperate and grasping at straws. She was very opportunistic. Don't think she knew the Wardens well enough to have a cunning plan, although she may have felt she knew Eamon well enough....

Heh. I used to do a bit of welding years ago. But mostly, I fixed arcwelders and generators in the army.

Such pretty lights it made! Shame you end up going blind admiring it.:(

Are you supposed to surrender to Cauthrien at Howe's estate? Never made that choice. I have only given the throne to Anora once and from her actions following this never will she get the opportunity again.

I always go with her peacefully. First of all, I love the Breakout quest. It's such fun. I also never turn on Anora by blabbing her identity. I also pretty much always make her queen and/or marry her to Alistair. Politically it makes sense as she has the experience and the skills and her people love her. Emotionally it makes sense because I love to thwart Eamon's plans and Alistair doesn't want the throne anyway. So everyone (Except Eamon) is happy.

I don't blab either.   Breakout is fun.   I've never gone willingly to Drakon.   From a role playing perspective after seeing people tortured at Howes, Loghain lie and pin Cailan's death on you, I really don't see how the PC would have much expectation of them dealing with them honorably, following due process or even getting a chance at escape.   So I tend to be chivalrous about keeping my word with Anora but fight like my back is against the wall when it comes to Cauthrien.

Same as Persephone, and for the same reasons (Eamon...argh!). It's worth doing the fight once or twice because it's one of the hardest fights in the game, but after umpteen playthroughs I generally don't bother anymore.

Anora already betrayed you by arranging for Cauthrien to be there in the first place and there is no reason (given that Loghain has already tried to kill you at least twice) that being captured would mean anything other than a quick death.  She thinks she's so smart that you (the warden) are too dumb to notice Ser Cauthrien's very convenient timing.

Given that, I wish I could recommend that Alister simply execute her.

I love doing it just to own Ser Cautherine and have my character give Anora the look.

"Yeah. I killed her and I'll kill anyone else who stands in my way."

My Warden is just a BA.

IanPolaris - there is no hard evidence that Anora was behind Cauthrien's arrival. It's a possibility, yes, but there are other plausible explanations (for starters, Loghain knows you're shacked up in Eamon's estate and would doubtless have had spies track your every movement).

Actually no there aren't.,  There was a 30+ thread page not too long ago where all reasonable possibilities were explored and rejected.  Unless you appeal to "metegaming" the ONLY reasonable in-game explaination for Ser Cauthrien to be where she was knowing that you had murdered Arl Howe (something most of his guards don't yet know) is only possible if the Queen (via Erlina) had betrayed you.

Sorry but when all other possibilities are eliminated (and they have been) whatever is left has to be the truth and the truth is Anora betrayed the Warden.

-Polaris

Edit PS:  The idea of spies in Eamon's estate fingering you was explored in depth and rejected.  There is no way that any spy in Eamon's household (and such are certainly believable mind you) would have known you murdered Arl Howe in the time frame alloted.  It doesn't work.  For that matter had the spies twigged onto you, then Arl Howe and his men would have been waiting for you since Howe was Loghain's spymaster and those spies would have reported to him.

Since I have seen no evidence that Anora has anything to do with Cauthrien showing up, I don't take this as fact value. I see her arrival as a simple plot device. Besides. what should she think, seeing you leave the estate, covered in blood? That you just went there to have drinks with Howe? The rest of my reasoning remains. I'd rather put an experienced ruler on the throne than a whining (if sometimes adorable) rookie manchild. :bandit:

Sorry, but negative evidence is still evidence and the evidence that Anora betrays you is overwhelming.  As for seeingt you covered in blood, that doesn't mean you murdered Howe.  Ser Cauthrian can not know that wilthout Anora telling her, because outside your immediate party no one else alive has that information.

There is no other explainatin unless you rely on plot-device (i.e. metagaming) in which case you automatically cede the argument.  If you judge by only the information characters could have in game, then there is no other explaination: Anora betrays the warden.  Sorry if that upsets you, but that IS the fact of the matter.

You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.  There is no other factual explaination unless you want to invoke metagaming/plot-device.

If she arranged it,why she is the first one to inform Eamon about it?(and the location where the warden actually is-> Fort Drakon)
Doesnt make much sense.
