I'm just gonna say it, this annoyed me in DA:O that I had to start over from level 1 and lose all of my equipment in the 1st just because I wanted to play through it's story again and I did so as the same guy each time anyway. Can we get a New Game+ over here? That'd be Legen- wait for it...waiiiit for iiiiiit...-dary!

There's a good chance that DA2 won't have New Game+.

I ask the devs literally EVERY chance I have....no answer so far BUT if DA2 is taking the ME route we might see ng+ this time around, there was also a quote (I lost it sorry I'll look for it) that implied playing a segment again with the same character

I don't really give a damn about NG+.

That'd be sweet. I get tired of seeing Maurius as a low level. XP

@Shepard
That was rather rude. =/___\\= If you don't care than why comment?

You mean restarting the game with your equipment and talents from the end ? I guess that would be possible but I doubt they would allow that. Pretty much all RPGs are heavily based on leveling and looting, because they're what's supposed to stimulate you and keep you playing. I agree it can be frustrating though that just when you get powerful, the game ends, so you can't really enjoy all your spells.

Personally, one of the things that drives me into playing RPGs is the opportunity to be a guy in a cool armor with a killer helmet, or a guy with awesome powers, although I know that my character is bound to looks silly and use silly spells during the first half of the game. It's sort of a genre cliché I guess ; the thing is that those games are based on stats rather than the player's actual ability to dodge attacks, etc., so the game would be too easy if you started with all your abilities and no restrictions regarding equipment, unless they find another sort of challenge. I'd personally love to see a game like that, just a big epic adventure where you can actually start off rich or with powerful spells or a big armor and instead of leveling up through killing, the challenge becomes the killing itself (Oblivion had some of those mechanics though it was still mostly a leveling game).

Unless what you mean by New game+ is what Diablo 2 does with nightmare and hell difficulties for example, in which case, pretty much everything I said above is irrelevant ! Other than that, I agree that just reexperiencing the story can be fun enough, as far as I'm concerned.

I've never understood the point of New Game+ here, how fun is it to play the same character each time, and especially with nothign more to gain since you have all loot/XP.

The simple reasoning behind this is that some of us just enjoy having our junk without having to re-earn it. If it's not your cup of tea you can just grab the new game but for thos of us that enjoy it, we wants it. XD

Can't really explain the appeal but I just enjoy it for some reason. What's the point in anything once you've completed it? You work your ass for hours and hours for all of that equipment then it's just gone at the end or useless because you have nothing left to use it all on? C'moooooon. Lemme take it back through if such is my desire.

Well, maybe just reexperiencing the adventure, story and universe without all the fluff, as fun as it can be. It's a story-driven game after all. I like the looting aspect but it's definitely not what keeps me playing ; I'm not a calculator who only finds pleasure in increasing my stats ! If gaming was just about winning, no need to look further than chess or Pong. The whole graphic, musical and narrative experience in a game are certainly worthy elements even on their own.

I don't see the point in such a feature. I replayed Origins countless times without there being a NG+ feature and don't see why DA 2 will be any different.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I should have worded that one better.

pretty much.

after getting a great weapon or armor set at the near end of the game it's a bit sad that you only get to use it for that section.
or finishing a playthrough with my favorite custom character and not being able to play as him/her again unless you remember the sliders configuration.

Heather Rabatich: We still have the major story arc that you can follow and we still have the side quests and the fluff points, but I think it will be about the length of Mass Effect 2. It’s still a long story, it just depends on how you play. How you choose to play will affect the length of it, to some degree, how deep you want to go, but we do have the option for people who, you know, have 17 games on the go, you can still get through it and can experience it through the different approaches, you can play it as female, as a male, play it doing this or that, you can customise your experience and you can replay it if you want to get more out of it by replying it as a different character.

this implied they worked a lot on replaybility, perhaps one of the custonization options is NG+

oh and Maria, you do not know we will nothave ng+ as the devs said nothing about it...actually Laidlaw and Gaider replied directly to one of my queries aboit it saying they can't say yet

I'm not agasint the mode, just not for me, so I wouldn't have anythign gasint them implementing it, it's not liek they force people to use it. Judging from previous games though, there probably wont be such a mode, right now I only remembe ME having such a possibility.

I don't understand why people drink coffee. Why not just rip your tongue out with a hot iron? Yet they do and appear to like it.

That said, there are several different types of new game plus. ME 2, for example, has an achievement for your first playthrough that gives you a mineral, XP, and paragon/renegade bonus to any subsequent playthrough. Other NG+ might only apply to one character but let you start at a higher level, letting you breeze through the early parts of the game.

My first guess:  You grew up with percolator or instant microwave coffee.  This is my guess because often the answer is, "Yes" and I get to respond with "No wonder" and it leads to a change of heart.  But not always!

My follow up in case my first guess is wrong:  But... I don't... it's coffee!  (Actually, I didn't drink coffee at all until a few years ago, and my obsession grew.  Why the wait? My parents drank instant coffee.  It was and is gross)

Sometimes in DA:O I would use the console to give myself something of a small New Game + bonus which was similar I suppose to Veteran mode in Alpha Protocol.  I'd bump my level to 7 when arriving at Ostagar so I could start out with a specialization.  There was no real RP reason for it, but it gave the game a nice kickstart that I enjoyed.  I would like an AP-type system for DA:2 myself, I don't know if something as far as the ME1-2 would be much fun - for me anyway.

Well, as I said before, I have nothing agsint such a mode getting implemented for thoe that likes it (wich I probably should have put into my first message, sorry about that all, no meaning to sound like I though it was stupid to liek it, my foot just met my mouth, happens pretty often).

The theoretical problem with implementing NG+ is that you need to have your battles allow characters of any level. This usually means very robust scaling, which never produces very good encounter design.

I say theoretical because Bio doesn't do a very good job at this in the first place, so they probably wouldn't make DA2 much worse by adding this feature.
