Anyone want to join me in watching Sky Sports News and laughing at the English? The attempts to drum up some outrage are brilliant. Congrats to Russia though.
Ah, I debated saying "Brits" or "English" in my opening post because I wasn't sure how the UK at large felt about the bid. As an American, pretty much the only way I'm getting a World Cup I can legitimately expect to attend is if it's hosted in the US, Canada, or Mexico. So having one in a neighboring country struck me as a positive thing.

To be honest I don't really care either way. I couldn't have afforded to go even if it was in England. I can't afford to go and see my beloved Manchester United and the world cup would have been even more expensive. It would have been nice to actually see the World Cup in England but its the media, good god you have no idea what its like. When they keep trying to put it down your throat that they are favourites for everything you have to revel in it when they come undone.Upsettingshorts wrote...

They were declaring themselves favourites to win the World Cup when everyone else could see they were nowhere near good enough. Yesterday English bookies declared them favourites to win this vote and stopped taking bets on it today they were so sure they would win. The English people are fine most of them don't buy into the stupid hype but their media is a joke. Sky Sports News have just declared "an almighty inquest!!" after learning England have only got two votes. Their delegates are taking it fine and congradulating Russia but the media are going mental, its comedy gold. You would think someone has been shot the way they are going on.
Just because Qatar have won the vote now doesn't mean they definately will be able to host it, all sorts of things could go wrong. Apparently the US finished second so theres still hope for you.

We had a fair chance, better that the England bid in the end.
I expected it to be in Russia but it still sucks, I would defenatly have gone to matches if it was either in the Netherlands or England

Being from england i'm more than happy to see the world cup go abroad, if we hosted the world cup and got knocked out we would be failures, if we hosted the world cup and won it everyone would say "you can only win it when you are the hosts", so why bother? Let us win a world cup again before we bother trying to host one.

The Englanders are really pissed off. lol
Well I guess some people are. A lot of people like myself dont actually care especially since reading this thread title was the first I heard of it
But of course it would have been nice to have it, just like any of the other bidding nations.

Qatar has 120 billion $ of income yearly, and Qatar is expanding its infrastructures very fast.Archdemon Cthulhu wrote...
the Russia bid makes sens to me, but I find the Qatar bid a little puzzling. I understand that the middle east has never had a world cup, but I'm just not sure the country has the infrastructure or ability to properly host such an event. . That said, I hope they do get it, because they obviously put a lot of effort in to make the bid even a viable option, much less winnable. I would've liked a US world cup, hell i wouldve loved it, but perhaps it'll just have to happen when Im old and gray.
