How do acid flasks work? Is the damage upon impact? Is it damage over time? What if you throw a flask and the enemy runs through the cloud?

I am finding it hard to target the enemies running in towards my group. It is easier to have my tank run in the middle and drop the flask on him/her. This doesn't seem ideal though.

It deals damage on impact, it is not damage over time (Dot). With a little bit of practice, you will be able to throw it on multiple enemies quite easily.

If you select it, you will notice the big circle it creates. All creatures that will be hit by it will light up, so it should be easy to avoid hitting your tank or other characters.

They do 70-80 damage on impact to targets that are within the area of effect when the flask lands. Usually I'll use them either on groups of 3-4 archers or on enemies that have already clumped around one of my characters, avoiding friendly fire.

Sounds like a good option for my spell caster. Thanks, I'll practice that.

Can be very effective in the hands of a stealthed rogue

Keep in mind they need to have the Poison Making skill in order to use them.

Just watch out that enemies don't surround you after you use it, it happened to me!

Errr, yes :crying:

I am terrible at remembering the notion of aggro, hit pause and shout why me? Then I remember...

You can either point the Area of Effect on an enemy (so it will land wherever he moves) or on a spot. With the former, you hit him (and his group) for sure, but you might get hit as well, if they move too close. With the second method, you hit a particular area (and you can be sure no-one from your party is hurt unless they act as stupid as usual and run INTO the AoE...), but the enemies might not be in the right position anymore. But with a bit of practice, you can predict where they will run to and place your bomb there. Since the throw is quite fast, there isn't much movement in-between the throw and the explosion anyway.

I only discovered the fun you can have with bombs on my third playthrough, when I played a rogue. I used to team up with Zevran and each of us would sneak up on a large party and throw four bombs within seconds. (Since you have four different types, and each one has a separate cooldown, you can throw one of them in quick succession). With eight bombs hitting the enemy almost simultaneously, you can clear out a large party without anyone realizing what's happening... very satisfying...

Eight bombs on a group sounds sweet.

If you play on easy and make hundreds of them you can take out anything extremely fast :D

(Make all your chars have poison making :-P)

It also works on Nightmare. Eight are enough. Just be careful where you throw them...

Hmmm... interesting tech. Up to now, I usually make my party stand still at a distance, me go stealth, set some traps, bomb bomb bomb, then call the party. Sometimes all enemies are dead just as my party arrives. Sten is like, "Where's the enemy? I was told there were enemies! The enemy is a lie!"

Bombs are good! Traps too. Bombs and traps are lethal. Grease traps and spring traps laid in the same zone keep your enemy in place and let you lob a handful of bombs before they even get near. There is a mod that gives better descriptions for poisons and bombs and other stuff called: Detailed tool tips. It's quite useful.

Grenades are a good tactic, especially against really difficult elite/boss units or when you are seriously outnumbered like in the Denerim random encounters.

There are actually 5 grenade types - not 4 as somebody previously mentioned.

And if you have all party members with poison-making, that's up to 20 grenades within a couple of seconds - each dealing 80 damage each!

Dual wielding rogues can use the clumping to good effect. Throw bombs, get as many as you wish to surround you, use whirlwind, then use single attacks or sweep to polish them off.

That was me. You are right, as I just discovered. I had only noticed four types of bombs on my playthroughs, so it was always eight bombs for me... and the Denerim back alleys was exactly where I developed the techique.

I remember posting a thread asking about good combinations that doesn't require magic. THIS is one of them information that I'm looking for. Not necessarily "official" or "written" combos but still neat ways to beat the crap out of those pesky darkspawn.
