I've been thinking about this a lot. Why can't we have a ruthless batarian squadmate in ME3? Garrus had one in his team so why can't we?

Sure, I don't mind. If it's a worthy character of course.

Oh God no. I hate everything about batarians so much. I hope for the next dlc they let you go to the batarian homeworld and just fly around bombarding hospitals, schools, retirement homes. Even their face is a hideous mockery of the human form. Bioware went through some effort to make a race that is very hateable. Can't we have one alien race that it's totally ok to hate? They're like evil space north koreans/terrorist/mosters. I'm sorry about my long response but I really really loathe the idea of a batarian squadmate.

Do wants batarian squaddie muchly yes yes!

Seriously, though, I'd love chat with one about something other than store discounts and how much humans suck. I really want to learn more about their culture, why the hell they hate us so much, and how the strict government control is affecting the Hegemony's citizens.

I say give us a rebel, an educated fellow who was forced from his homeland because his political opinions disagreed with with the guys up top. Also, give him a rocket launcher.

Additionally, female turians.

I'd love to see the tensions between Colonist/War Hero or Colonist/Ruthless Shepards and a Batarian squadmate.

Because they killed Shepard's family during the raid on Mindoir?  (possibly if you're a Colonist)
Because they enslaved and killed children during the Skyllian Blitz?
Because the more militant factions have little regard for any species but their own, and barely any more for themselves?

We've seen that they're all not like that, but their kind have performed some of the most dispicable terrorist acts in the game's recent timeline.
Personally, I don't believe that carte blanche retribution would be a good thing, but you couldn't blame certain versions of Shepard if you account for his past.

EDIT:

They were also responsible for the events in Mass Effect: Galaxy where they tried to kill the Council.

yeah well do you think we should kill Innocent Muslim children because their fathers blow them selves up? taking lives that did not wrong you does not make it right, even if you family was killed by batarian slavers.

I don't believe its right, but not everyone plays their Shepard as a rational, compassionate person.

BioWare gives us the option to kill in cold blood for no apparent reason when all moral logic would say that we shouldn't.  Was killing Rana Thanoptis on either Virmire or Korlus the right thing to do?  Was telling Lt Girard to shoot Talitha right?  Was killing Charn (the second in command during the "Bring Down the Sky" mission) right, after he told you he was being forced to carry through with it and begged you to let him go?

BioWare lets us make these choices.  Don't you think that they'd also let us wrestle with the moral implications of exacting mass revenge against the people who had taken everything from Shepard?

I think we need to meet more average citizen batarians who aren’t asses TBH, Though their government supposedly doesn’t let regular citizens leave their planet so any we would meet would have to runaway or have slaver parents or something I supose.

@Omega: Charn literally walks up to you and tells you "This was just supposed to be a quick slave grab." Sorry, but my Colonist/Ruthless Shepard doesn't forget about Mindoir or Torfan just because some punk wants to cut a deal.

As for the topic at hand, I wouldn't mind it, as long as there's extra dialogue for Colonist/Ruthless Sheps.

A batarian squadmate would be an acceptable substitute for Zaeed (whom I doubt will return anyway)

The hate for Batarians is confusing considering how they are presented in ME 2. We actually meet numerous normal batarians that aren't particularly aggressive or mean. Also, most of the Batarians running around outside of the Hegemony are pirates and criminals not welcome back home. I'm hoping for a Batarian SIU squadmate (this is a quote from the wiki):

"The batarian military has a special forces division known as the Special Intervention Unit. All that is known about the SIU is that their training program is brutal. The Blue Suns hired a group of former SIU operatives to run a hostile environment training camp on the planet Xetic, an investigation by Illium authorities into the camp found that the mortality rate was as high as 18%. But an independent Blue Suns inquiry found that the batarian operatives harsh training techniques were consistent with those employed in the SIU training program. "

I'm down with it. He can be our tech expert. Oh wait...

I want my ignorant Shep to ask him about his eyes and which set I should stare at.

I forgot that he mentioned the "quick smash and enslave" thing.  Granted, I'm sure that without Shepard's Spectre status, there would have been issues with him killing a surrendering hostile who had not committed any murders, no matter what his original motivation.

Granted, I did kill Charn and Balak on my first Colonist/War Hero.  It just seemed like the right thing for someone who'd spent most of his life plagued by people like them.

Charn isn't "surrendering." He's trying to cut a deal. There's a difference.

Also, hasn't committed any murders? He and his friends killed a bunch of people to take control of the asteroid.

Good point, but I doubt we will see the genocide of the Batarians we need all the able bodys to fight the reapers, but a batarain squad mate would make for an interesting casue for conflict with shepard in ME3 and i do approve

A batarian would be cool, if only because it sets up a nice story (torn between loyalties, considered a traitor by his own people, etc.). I can imagine some vicious jabs between Ashley and a batarian squadmate, too.

don't care what reasoning anybody comes up with, I just hate batarians. My Shep killed every batarian he could. And I don't really want dlc to commit war crimes I just wanted to convey how strongly I feel against a batarian squadmate. In fact I hope the game being announced december 11th is an ME FPS where all you do is shoot batarians. But i digress. Please no batarian squadmates bioware. Give us more Wrex instead.

I would be all for it, as long as I could have him killed at my leisure. Being a Colonist, I too hate Batarians.
