And then the batarian squadmember does something awesome and people will fawn
over him. Just like Legion, who like half the forum threatened to kill if he
was recruitable.
You guys are too predictable.
Legion is a bit different though. As a Geth (machine) he is a rather useful tool to gain intel on the enemy and help the Quarians kill them off. Think of it this way, Legion helps you gain access to one of their stations which you can then later reprogram all the Geth inside to basically work for you. At any point that he/it doesn’t follow the plan, all you have to do is put a few rounds through its head.

@lastpatriot: Couldn't you do the same with a batarian? Couldn't said batarian be just as useful?
To a rational mind, I suppose so. In the mind of my character, they aren't worth the trouble.

And that's the problem with some people here. I can seperate myself from my Shepard. Others can't.lastpatriot wrote...

How would my Shepard know that Legion will give him access to such things, silly?

TBH I think those who are so full of hostility just use their Shepards as a justification while they hate batarians themselves as players.
Anyways, being emotional, violent and unreasonable makes them seem immature.
Haters gonna hate.

I think thats more realistic, given the current situation you are in.

Personally, I would have trust issues with allowing a Batarian into my crew but I live by the rule that you judge a person by their own actions.
However, I like to play a character who is different than myself as it makes for a more enjoyable story.

Never have I met a one who did anything other than repeat the same actions I saw when I was a child. They are brutal and savage people who deserve no mercy until a clear and exact justice can be met upon them.
A batarian you meet during Mordin's recruitment mission? An Omega shopkeeper?

Anyways, yes, I already got your Shepard's point of view and I'm ok with it, so I won't argue. =) As I've already mentioned I like when people actually roleplay your characters like you do. Still... Well, your Shepard is opposed to the idea of having a batarian on board. So, um, what? As I mentioned earlier I know a couple of forumites who have Colonist Sheps and still like the idea of having a batarian squaddie 'cos it may - should - lead to interesting conversations/situations/etc, etc.
As a player you could've said something like 'I'm against the idea 'cos my Shepard hates batarians and for me it wouldn't be fun to roleplay her having to cope with him in the squad. I'm all for immersion and I would not enjoy such a character while thinking about my Shep's feeling towards him'. I think this could've made your point much clearer. =)
Unfortunately, I wasn't the OP of this thread, otherwise I would've specified from the very beginning that I'd like to hear player's, not their Shepard's opinions.

Saren was a Turian, were all Turians bad?
Some of the Rachni tried to kill me, they weren't all bad. I let the queen go.
Some asari have tried to kill me several times, they're not all bad
I'm not against it. It might be cool to have a Batarian to crack jokes with. I myself saved the life of a Batarian plague victim. Remember people were skeptical of the Krogans at one point too.

We need a batarian LI just so someone can make terrible "music videos" to Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance"
(I want yah ugly, I want yah diseased...)
I mean, they can do that anyways, but it's much more satisfying if it's legit

For a Renegade, it would be great.
For a Paragon, not so much.

@RAF1940: Really? I'd think it'd be more dependent on Shep's background then his morality. I'd imagine colonists, war heroes, and ruthless Sheps would take issue, while the rest would be all "meh, whatevs."

Charn: Balak right hand man didn't like what was going on during asteroid mission. May have lived due to player choice. could be posible Merc band with what men he had left that he took with him.
The sick Batarian from the begining of Mordin recruit mission: Hey the guy owes me for saveing his life.
Cathka: "Hey I remember you you tazed me in the back!"
Mad Prophit: I need a guy who says I told you so for when we see the reapers

Well, considering that all of them, apart from the Mad Prophet, can be dead... I guess that we'll get the Mad Prophet! *perfect logic

Shepard: Why do you hate humans, Generic Batarian Squadmate?
GBSM: I don't hate all humans. I just hate you, Shepard.
Shepard: I should go.
GBSM: Yes... Yes, you should.
Much more interesting to watch that relationship unfold then your 20 other squad mates who follow you around with googly eyes worshiping you. I kind of want him to channel the old HK47 vibe from KotoR.

We'll certainly get at least a couple of new squad mates, I think that's a given. Might as well have the GBSM.

Oh come on Cathka could totally be alive. You think a taser to the back would kill him? the guy hung out around Tarek all day. Then again there are those peole who think not tasering him is a smart move.
