It's a good thing for Blizzard, that even more fans disagree with your and the critics' opinion.

Blizzards are loosing their fans becouse Blizzards do not listen to fans' opinions. Here is my story...

Warcraft-2, Starcraft, Warcraft-3, World of Warcraft: I was Blizzard fan.
World of Warcraft - BC: I began to doubt.
World of Warcraft - WotLK, World of Warcraft - Cata, Starcraft-2: Blizzard have lost my loyalty.

So I hope BioWare will never repeat Blizzard's mistakes.

That's exactly what happened to me, in that very order.

Dont get me wrong, I get the constant balancing, I played SC1/BW for several years, and saw the many evolutions in the Meta Game. I still play SC2 to this day, not digging the mega macro sim city factor that much anymore though, gets boring real quick. (and I am a Blizzard fan, dont mistake me for a random "hater" I own every Blizzard game ever made, ditto goes for Bioware.)

But I swear to god, all these SC fanboys touting the fact that SC2 is an "eSport" as the primary basis for why it should be game of the year is utterly retarded.

Case in point:

Halo has been part of the "eSport" scene since its inception, same goes for Counter Strike, and quite frankly, there are MORE players, in MORE regions for those titles, same goes for COD, Street Fighter (actually, SF games have a VERY long history of eSport success in MANY regions).

Are any of those titles many of which had a version come out this very year worthy of GOTY just based off thier MORE successful eSport status? (as based off number of total players, and supported regions, international tournaments, etc.)

Yeah, I didnt think so......

The massively retconned story in SC2 is a very, VERY sore point amongst the SC2 community, has been since day 1. The fact that the SP did not live up to the classic SC/BW story line is common place conversation on startcraft2.com, plain as day.

Yes, SC2 is a good game, but Blizzard stumbled in several areas, Bnet functionality, no LAN support, the Single player, etc. I would honestly agree with SC2 taking GOTY if the Single player was up to the standard we all expect from Blizzard, but it wasnt, and if Bnet 2.0 was actually an improvement instead of lacking many, MANY features.

Just being an eSport in Korea doesnt make for GOTY, sorry. (yes I get that there are tourneys in other regions as well, including NA, but it doesnt even hold a candle to the other aforementioned eSport games)

I never said that Starcraft 2 being an eSport in South Korea automatically puts it in line for GotY, of which this voting from G4 is simply a vote to see what people's favorite game of 2010 is, and not actually a true GotY award to be handed out.

If the Starcraft 2 fanboys are saying this or that, then they are simply taking this vote too seriously, and you as well considering some of the context that you lay out.

I've already stated what each game does best at, and it's impossible to even contemplate comparing the two games in like aspects.  You cannot compare each single player aspect as Mass Effect 2 is solely about single player driven storytelling.  Starcraft 2 is, whether you think so or not, a superb competitive RTS to follow up on Starcraft 1's success from the multiplayer side of things.

I don't know of very many people who bought Starcraft 2 with the intention of the single player campaign and story alone, they as well as I bought it for the proven multiplayer aspect.  Which obviously Mass Effect 2 does not have, so again no comparison can be made.

Also you'd be surprised just how much of an eSport Starcraft 2 is outside of South Korea.  It's equal to all of the other games you mentioned, no matter if it's not a console game or not.  European professional tournaments as well as North American, and especially the MLG tournaments that are held on a regular basis, are just as profound as Halo, CoD, and etc., etc.

With all this said... Voting is over with and so should this conversation.  :D

I voted for Mass Effect 2, there are other games I kinda like more but Mass Effect 2 is still a GREAT game and game series and Starcraft 2 disappointed me in some areas.

I just went on the site, and voting is done. I clicked on the final round, though, and it says that Starcraft 2 is the winner, even though it was supposed to be announced on TV. I don't think that it was meant to post the winner online, but looks like they might have made a mistake. Doesn't show percentages.

Did anyone really think that we had a chance to win against Star Craft 2's horde of fans? And I'm saying objectively. Star Craft 2 may be a better game, or Mass Effect 2 may be a better game. Either way though, we all know that Star Craft 2 has a much more dedicated and loyal fanbase. It's the nature of multiplayer games.

There really wasn't much to be done once Husky mobilized the SC2 community.

Its not a big deal.

and why are people surprised? ign rated ME2 as GoTY and placed SC2 as the 7th top game of 2010. ME2 won the golden joystick award, time said its the avatar of video games only better written, its been cited as The Empire Strikes Back of video games, it has 11 (count em!) eleven VGA nominations! upsets happen - you think the number one nfl or nhl team is going to have a perfect season even though at the end they land a spot in the playoffs and win the cup? of course not and though it was an upset a ten percent difference isn't exactly a landslide victory even WITH all the youtube support SC2 had. congratz to the SC2 for rallying up a grass roots campaign but far as GoTY goes - that verdict was handed out when ME2's launch trailer was first aired.

Well,this Videogame Deathmatch sucks.You can't compare ME2 with SC2.

SC2 =chess game,and ME=good sci-fi book.I prefer both playing chess and reading books and that's why i don't care about this Videogame Deathmatch "ME vs Sc2" results because it's nothing but nonsense.As i  said-you just can't compare ME2 with SC2.
Both games deserve the first place.

Not true. SC2 is a sci-fi blitz chess game. And yes, ME was a good sci-fi book, unlike ME2, which is a cheezy cheap space fantasy. SC2 even has a lot more sci-fi-ish flavor to it, than ME2. At least, the StarCraft universe never had such a detailed lore as Mass Effect to be screwed over for the sake of "fluent gameplay" in a sequel.

Well, one of my two favorite games this year won. YAY! I'm happy either way, though I would have been a little bit happier with Mass Effect 2.

I agree that you can't compare the two games. We own both of them and my hubby only plays SC and I only play ME2/Dragon Age. It's simple. Most RTS people don't play RPS and most RPG people don't play RTS.

People, you run too fast :)

% shown for a short time could be lie or missunderstanding. It could even be a forum bug (that forum is actually full of bugs). There are no official results yet and there are no total number of voters yet. So hold all congratulations till 14th.

I swear the percentages were showing earlier today. Must have been removed.
