Ok, so if I can not login to the DAO servers, what can I do then? I deleted the promopack 1, now I can not download it again since the servers seems to be down.

If you weren't able to load your saves when the DA servers are unavailable, then deleting item packs won't have changed anything. Your save games still use DLC for which you don't yet have the necessary offline authorization. When you can reconnect to the DA servers, continue with these steps and re-download everything. Once you've directly downloaded each purchased item in your content list, you should have the necessary authorization to load your saves even when the DA servers are unavailable.

Unfortunately, this fix can only be applied when the DA servers can be reached. That's what I meant when I said it makes for a frustrating user experience. In order to ensure that you can play when the DA servers aren't available, you need to do something obscure when the DA servers are available. You have to fix the problem before you know that it's a problem, which means that most people are just going to get a rude surprise when they try to play when the DA servers are unreachable.

It seems strange to me that the QA team just assumed that the DA servers would have 100% availability, but perhaps the promotional items weren't tested directly.

The QA teamed should have assumed 0% server availability, for all of us who keep their 360 OFFLINE to play their SINGLE-PLAYER OFFLINE GAMES.

I was unable to connect DA servesr again since yesterday. For the 1st time, I deleted PROM pack in x360. Then it worked. But this time, I have deleted PROM pack, but still not able to connect DA servers. Now I cannot load my save. Are DA servers down now? Thx.

Im having similar issue with DLC stone prisoner and wardens keep. No matter how many times I delete/download it always comes up as 'following content is corrupt pls re-download' if not connected to the servers!!! Both do the same whether theyre downloaded at same time or separately. Ive followed the steps here to no avail....its not exactly the same is it....it kees telling me the DLC itself is corrupt >sigh<

omg! (...to speak with Jonathan Quale Higgins words :))

That should be sticky indeed. It worked at me too. Just to be on the safe side. Nobody knows when internet is gone, DA servers down again or just the LAN cable is damaged. I went through the list step by step and it was all done in 5mins.

Thanks to all involved people figuring that one out!

The Edge will not be listed as a separate download (that's the problem). It's bundled with Promo Item Pack 2, which contains other items, one of which you did download at some point. The item that you clicked on to download the Item Promo Pack is the only one for which you currently have offline authorization. You have the data for the other items but not the authorization, so the game needs to contact the DA servers every time you launch the game to verify what you're entitled to use.

The Edge was automatically downloaded to my Xbox last weekend when i took it up my mates place.I didnt request it,select it,or nowt !! On returning to my flat,i fired up the Xbox & was promptly informed that i was "Unable to load Save File as some DLC ( namely, THE EDGE!) wasn't on my Hard-Drive".So,have i now got to be connected to the internet to play DAO with this character?I started a new character, but what with all the other bugs ive encountered so far my faith is seriously rocked with Bioware.Hate to mention it here, but FFXIII on release will be 100% bug-free guaranteed.Thats what i expect when i purchase a product for a console.I USED to expect that from Bioware....those days are now gone.Image IPB

Hello purplegaelic.

To your problem: Yes, if you dont go through the steps mentionend in the first post, you have to be online with your console. I went through these steps and can now play on- and offline. Guide is working!

I'll take a guess at what happened.

At some point since acquiring the game, you downloaded Dragon Age: Journeys unlocks or the Lucky Stone to your Xbox, so you already have Promo Item Pack 2 on hard drive. You registered your copy of Dragon Age: Origins, so your account is now entitled to use The Edge. You took your Xbox to your friend's place and went online with it. The game contacted the DA servers, verified that you are authorized to use The Edge, found that you already had the data on your drive, and put The Edge in your character's inventory. But, since you never downloaded The Edge directly from the content manager, your Xbox doesn't have the necessary license for that item on the hard drive. When you returned home, you tried to load your save, the license isn't there, so the game tries to authorize the content with the DA servers, but you aren't connected to the Internet, so it gives you an error message.

The solution is as described. You need to delete Promo Item Pack 2 and download The Edge directly. This will require an Internet connection. The Edge is now embedded in your saves, and you will not be able to use them until you get that license on your hard drive.

The issue I'm having is similiar to this, but a little different, and I wonder if anyone else has heard of this.  I've had four games stop working around the "Landsmeet" part of the game.  When I try to load any save files, it says "the save file appears to be damaged and cannot be loaded."  I don't get any messages about DLC.  I've tried uninstalling and restalling both my DLC's (Wardens Keep and Stone prisoner) directly from the EA servers and X-box live, but that hasn't worked.  I don't think it's my HDD, as I have two, and it happens on both.  Anyone have any thoughts, or better yet, a fix?

I've been having the problem with "The Edge" DLC also. Question...If I were to just delete all DLC and start a new game without DLC, would all these issues be resolved? Honestly, I am willing to play through without any DLC so I can enjoy this awesome game without problems like this.

Took you a week of searching? It took me less than 5 minutes to figure it out. It's simple common sense really. If you didn't actually download the individual item it is not available when playing offline.

This is a separate issue. The steps described in this thread help resolve DLC suddenly going "missing" when the DA servers are unavailable even though they show up as "downloaded" otherwise. What you're describing sounds like an actual corrupted save file. I'm not completely familiar with the various exploits (or "glitches") that people have used to get extra gold or experience, but I believe those can lead to corrupted saves. There may be other causes.

Technically, yes, though getting your licenses is a one-time fix if you're thorough. So long as you ensure that each item in the content manager is downloaded directly, you should have the necessary licenses for offline play. Bugs within the DLC itself (like the Warden's Keep stash getting emptied) are another matter, of course.

Respectfully, no, though your opening statements strongly suggest that you might just be trolling. When a game tells a user that content has been successfully purchased and downloaded, it's perfectly reasonable to believe that the content will be usable the next day, or week, or hour. If separate licenses are required, then the game should make clear which licenses have yet to be downloaded to the hard drive. The underlying license/data storage mechanism should be transparent to the user and should not get in the way of play. The current implementation fails on both counts.

I don't think the steps described in this thread are in any way obvious to most users, which is why I started this thread. I understand now (as I did not when the game was first released) why this particular problem occurs, but I wouldn't describe this solution as "simple common sense" by any stretch. Users do not expect and should not be required to delete and download chunks of DLC multiple times just to authenticate their constituent pieces.

It may have been easy for you to figure out what was happening, but users shouldn't even need to be dealing with it in the first place. This is the first time in years of Xbox 360 use that I have ever needed to go mucking about directly in hard drive storage to make a game functional. Perhaps I've just been extraordinarily lucky.

I realize it's different, which is why I stated that, but was hoping someone may have heard of something like this before.  I don't use glitches or exploits, and would believe it to be just corrupted data, if it hadn't happened to me four times, using different characters, on two different HDDs, in exactly the same portion of the game.  Game files saved before beginning the Landsmeet load fine, but all files saved after give me this error message.  If anyone has heard of this, and knows how to work around it or fix it, please let me know.

This is exactly the problem I have but I haven't been able to connect to the servers for three days now to try this out. I can't believe the servers would be down so long, what kind of ITs do they have working over there? Is there anything beyond waiting I could do here?

This is unbelievably ****** poor planning on their part. I have never had this be a problem with a game. This is literally game breaking. I've poured hours into this game save, and now that I have some vacation time to really get into the game...and I cannot play. Words cannot describe how angry I am. Good thing I am rich and have tons of other games I bought and can play with...oh wait, I'm not. This was the game to play for me. I am actually considering canceling my Mass Effect 2 purchase since this problem will be repeated on that game. Give out all this promo DLC, and then tie your ability to play it up whenever their servers go down. This has got to be the worst example of customer service I have ever seen.

In fairness, I doubt that was the intent. Unfortunately, that's little comfort to the users experiencing the problem. Perhaps it will be addressed in the upcoming patch. Following the described steps should correct your authorization so the availability of the DA servers no longer dictates whether you can play.

This may be true but at least you took the initiative to share it with us and for that you get mad props!

I admit that is pretty cool. However, when they decided to go this route they should have made sure all of the bells and whistles were taken care of before going "online".  At least most of the people that responded to your helpful post are relatively computer savvy, but what about those poor unfortuante souls who arent?  Or even those who may have a little computer knowledge but were unable to find your thread?  I think Bioware definitely dropped the ball on this one.

Be that as it may, I just wanted to thank you again for you help. Hopefully your post will continue to help those who are fortunate and patient enough to find it.  As for anyone reading this post who may be disenchanted with the game, I still recommend playing it.  Having beat it myself, I can say it was definitely worth it.  Well,.. as worth it as it could be anyway considering the circumstances.
