Download every item directly, deleting the appropriate promo pack before each download. You only get offline authorization for the item you download not for anything else contained in the corresponding promo pack.

Example: You are entitled to Helm of the Deep, Amulet of the War Mage, and Embri's Many Pockets (all from Promo Item Pack 2). Delete Promo Item Pack 2, then download Helm of the Deep. Delete Promo Item Pack 2, then download Amulet of the War Mage. Delete Promo Item Pack 2, then download Embri's Many Pockets.

I would advise you to read the "long ass list" though.

Thanks so much for the summary. I read the list but can't recall whether I have the choice on xbox live to download each item individually instead of downloading a "promo pack."

EDIT: Also, I just checked my "registered game promotions," and all of my items are listed there, even though I am solely having trouble with the memory band item. If I recall correctly, I only saw the Feral Wolf Charm available for download on xbox live.

this is blooming pathetic i bought the game 4 days ago and havent been able to played a single bit yet, as i was having trouble with the blood dragon armour and shale quests so i didnt want to start incase i misseded important parts for them then i got them downloaded last night just before i went to bed now i get up this morning and it physicaly wont let me play WTF piece of S**T is this game?

sorry for double post, i have just gone on to the website to make an official complaint about how shatty this service is and they wont even let me log in to my account on there, correct me if im wrong but isnt EA suppost to be a big player in the gaming world, not some little kid who cant hold on to its servers

If you and MassMan reread the long post you'd see that the OP specifically mentions the "download content" menu at the Dragon Age Origins title screen menu, NOT the Xbox live marketplace.

This is why the process is a bit tedious. Because you have to go in game, download the item, quit to dashboard, delete the file from hard drive, and then repeat these steps over and over. Try there....

2 quick questions for you on this that might help.


 1) do you have any of the promo items (memory band, feral charm etc.)?  Promo Pack 1

 2) do you have the Dragon Age Journey items (Deep Helm, Many Pockets, War Mage Amulet) ? Promo Pack 2

 If you have any of these things then it is most likely the problem. these items are grouped together in Promo pack 1 and Promo pack 2. It is explained in better detail by the OP but the problem here is that you manually download only 1 of these items and the others follow suit.  What needs to happen is that you manually download every item you have seperately.  This includes the "Edge" as far as I know it is considered part of Promo pack 2, was for me.

 Please read the entire 1st post to make sure you have not forgotten anything. If you think you have then follow the steps again, dont worry this wont affect your game saves.

 If you still have problems please come back and post them and I will try to help you with them.

I believe you, but if the game is complaining about specific items when you're offline, then you don't have the necessary licenses for those items (i.e. you have some but not all). To get them, you have to force the game to fetch them, and to do that you have to delete the data associated with them.

DA:O will only fetch the license for an item that you download from the content manager directly. If the data you download causes other items to suddenly show up as "Downloaded", then you don't get the licenses for those, and you can't tell DA:O to fetch the licenses for items it thinks you've already installed. This is the crux of the problem, and the whole reason this tedious workaround is required. The model for the promo items is many licenses all tied to one block of data, which wouldn't be so bad if the content manager didn't (apparently) assume that having the data is the same as having the license.

I deleted the promo pack one, it was causing the problem.

But it didn't show up when connected to the servers.

Now I still can't play any of my characters and I've deleted my dlc.

???

wtf, i did this and it worked and then deleted my box's cache (offline all the time) and bougt one arcane tech and it never came my inventory and went back to shop and there was a berserker ability available then my all abilitys went back locked. how this can happen?

If you deleted the cache then you deleted the title update(s), I believe. I haven't tested to see how the specialization unlocks were implemented in the latest title update, but it's conceivable that deleting the cache would clear that information.

I'm glad this fix worked, but, really, we as the customers should not have been required to find a work around for this. It took a customer's ingenuity to do this. The customer did Bioware's job for them and that is sad.

no wonder the Dragon Age Journey items magically appeared in my game without downloading it first. I had them all this time when I downloaded The Edge.



what really bugs me is that I have the Lucky Stone on my hard drive too but I can't use it. c'mon Bioware make it free to everyone!

OMG, thank you so much for posting this. It just so happens that my internet access is limited at the moment because I'm getting ready to move and I'm only using my verizon hotspot which has a 5gig limit on data transfer. I decided to go back to DAO in prep for Awakenings after playing ME2 for the past few weeks and realized that I couldn't access any of my saved games without being connected to the internet. I was so pissed that even though I could have simply just connected to the internet to conform, I started deleting every content pack that was causing the problem (the promo items) and still couldn't get the saved files to load.

I started a brand new character, just so that it wouldn't be tainted by the promo items, resigned myself to never again playing my old characters, and made a SACRED VOW never to use a promo item or order a CE from BW ever again, because I thought BW/EA had done this internet tethering thing on purpose. Fortunately, I found this thread and followed the directions to get the rights to the ONE item in the promo pack that wasn't downloaded correctly (Lion's Paw). I re-downloaded that one item and SHAZAM! everything works off-line and all my promo DLC is available.

The problem I'm having is I can't download the DLC again - it's just not there. Am wondering if this has anything to do with the DLC not being on my "registered game promotions" here (I downloaded everything from the game initially). Anyway, am on my fourth try with EA CS (last time the dude cut me off because I wasn't typing fast enough to put up a timely response). Between this and the ME2 debacle, I am very frustrated and am tempted to cancel my preorder of Awakening and play moronic shut-em-up games or hockey or maybe even read like a book or something.

OK, I surrender. After two non-fix fixes from EA, getting kicked off of chat for failure to type fast enough, not being able to get EA on the phone, and not being able to solve this problem even given the very laudable efforts of the player who posted this fix, I have canceled my Awakenings preorder and will sell this game. I'm enormously disappointed in EA and Bioware - I spent a lot of money on this game but now the thing just flat doesn't work. Between this and the ME2 debacle from February, I am through dealing with anything from either company. I'm a console moron because this is the kind of stuff I used to deal with on the PC. I like my entertainment fun, not infuriating.

I'm having this problem right now on 360 and can't play. Live is working fine. Getting the server unavailable and am being told that it can't find three of my rings (two that came with the pre-order and one from the browser game). Presumably it has no problem with any of the other DLC items and missions. Anyone else? Any bioware folks addressing this one at the mo? If I don't wish to go through the steps helpfully submitted above will this problem resolve itself when the servers are available again? Or is my game nuked?

I'm hoping this may be helpful to someone: I found that, even after going through the process described here, I still couldn't download the content the game said I was missing (for me, it was the memory band and collector's edition). It just wasn't in the download section of the game. I think this goes back to my Xbox Live, EA, and BW social accounts not being linked at the time I downloaded the stuff last Nov. Anyway, what finally worked was EA manually giving me the memory band again (they still haven't given me the CE content, but i've e-mailed and hopefully will get a response). So, I think the thing to do, if you follow the awesomely helpful and well-thought-out process desrcibed at the beginning of this topic (praise to the player who helped us all out) and you don't see the stuff the game is telling you to download again in the downloads section of the game, is to get with EA and have them "manually enter" (their phrase) the stuff you don't have. If you do that, you should see the stuff listed in your "registered game promotions" on this site (provided your three accounts are linked) and you should see the stuff in the game as well. Like I said, what EA did was the only thing which worked to get the memory band back into the game so I could play it. Still waiting on the CE but I think it'll be fine once EA puts it back in.
