Why are female companions always human (not talking about romances)

forrealz? Leliana, Morrigan, Wynne, Bethany, Aveline, and Isabela are all humans.  I liked the Witch Hunt DLC just for the fact we got a enjoyable female dalish elf in our group, i actually cared less about Morrigan.

BW seems more diverse with Males, Zevran, now this mystery elf and Varric.  Is it just a coincidence or does BW feel humans fit their female characters.

Huh. That's a good point. I have no idea, dude, but a little more variety in the party would be nice.

It's probably just coincidence.

Elven & Dwarven females please! Sigrun was great, but Valana was annoying, I never played the Witch Hunt DLC so I have no opinion on her.

Poor Sigrun and Velenna are feeling pretty neglected, or spiteful in Velanna's case, right about now I'd imagine, seeing as so many people are quick to forget about their existence.

As for racial preferences of the writers, I once remember Gaider saying something along the lines of the fact that racial diversity is the last thing on their mind when they're coming up with what companions should be added to a story. Chances are that up until now they simply didn't feel that any of the non-human female concepts that they came up with meddled enough with their intended stories, Awakening and Witch Hunt not withstanding, and choose to preclude them.

that's my point why I didn't mention them. they are not as memorable as the human companions.

Truly? I found both of them to be quite memorable, though Velanna's attitude problem often left a bitter taste in my mouth whenever it reared it's ugly head. Sigrun especially was my favorite companion from Awakening for her bubbly personality and epic stats that were so unbecoming for a traditional rogue.

So your thread title has nothing to do with your actual point..

Well, in BG2 & NWN, all female romance options were elven or halfelven :P

Sigrun was the best Awakenings companion. Made me think of Dagna.

Sigrun, Velanna, Ariane, and possibly Morrigan (as its revealed Flemeth isn't entirely human herself so if she is truly born of those loins, Morrigan would be part whatever Flemeth is)

Velanna, Sigrun, Shale, and Arianne; but I guess Shale was the only one with extended interaction in the main game

Yes but this isn't BG2 or NWN we're talking about, and takes place in a different fictional universe.

With that said: I want a female elf romance!!!1eleven1!1 QQ

ME has allot of humans too. Miranada, Kaiden/Ashley, Jacob, Zaeed, Jack and Kasumi. But at least they add in a decent number of Aliens. Just never more than one of one species.

But yes more variety in companion race would be interesting. And I don't see the point in making majority of the companions human. If I want to hang out with humans I do it in real life. I'm not saying no human companions just not the majority of them.

All characters you don't get if you just buy the core game.

Sigrun was probably my favorite party member in terms of personality in the game. Probably my second or third favorite character in the game.

So by "always" you really mean in one game. Which has Shale.

I would support an all-human fantasy word... I've just never been a fan of elves or dwarves in general. It's possible to raise the same issues as the ones faced by the Dalish elves, city elves, or even the dwarves in DA:O without making them different subspecies or something. Use the extra character models to introduce more varied heights and builds.

But I admit I'm probably in the minority here. I'll also admit there's little consistency in my preference as I don't mind aliens in science fiction. It's probably purely aesthetics driving my opinion.

I feel like I'm the only one who really liked Velanna. Especially when she and Nathaniel were both in the party.

You're not the *only* one, just in the minority. I liked every single companion in DA so far except for Velanna (and Awakening-version Oghren). I guess her particular brand of bad attitude just grated on me.
