Your warrior is dying a lot on easy?
What build? I went with a Dwarf Commoner Tank and he's doing fine in Normal mode so far. Just need to concentrate on Strength until he can wear decent equipment then Dex for evading attacks. Also went with the Shield and Sword tree.

A little more details would be nice.
Try to use poultices, or if your using a Mage, get the Spell "Heal" as one of your first Spells.

my mage does have the heal spell.

Hmmm.. Are you healing your party and yourself? I just point the spell at the portraits on the left side and it heals them.
I also get Mind Blast and Rock Armor. Rock Armor only adds a little armor though, and Mind Blast doesn't last very long.

Hmm, are you playing on a console or on the PC? I ask because the PC's pause function makes it a lot easier to stay alive.
Also, it's a good idea to add a line to your NPC's tactics screens to take a healing poultice when their health drops below 50%. You do have to keep a steady supply of healing poultices in your inventory, but if you use Bodhan's Tweaks (a mod that adds stamina potions and crafting reagents to Bodhan's inventory) and learn to make healing poultices, you should never run out.
Once you are freed from the chore of keeping an eye on your companions' health, you can pay better attention to your own.

Aha. That's probably part of your problem. Well, two parts of your problem. You really need to give Alistair the best armor you can find. His armor rating should be as high as you can get it and his defense should be, too. Don't neglect his dex when he's leveling because he really needs that defense adjustment to stay alive.
And you might want to think about setting up his tactics properly. They aren't *horrible* as they stand, but you can probably think up better ones, like telling him to take a potion when his health gets too low.

hm, I'd check the tactics first, there are a few preset ones that you can go through and try and they'll give you an idea of how to make your own if you want to.
Then check that the everyone in your group has the best kit, it's can be a bit boring going through your inventory several times but even a slightly better weapon or armour will make a fair difference,
Lastly, focus your attacks, if everyone is attacking different targets you end up getting overrun, select one or two targets and take them out first, then move on to a new one, Occasionally their will be a boss or leader of the group who is substantially stronger who you should takeout first, someimes last bepending on the odds against you and how powerfull the rest of the enemy group is.

I concur on the health potion, I tried a warrior, died often so I told him to use health potion when health
I also tell my mage to use stamina spell if a warrior's stamina falls below 50..
Best to ya!!
Edit: You can select all, I know not how that works with PS3, not sure of your platform. With pc, it's the little tiny round button below the companions, on the left. It looks like diamonds but if you click it, it becomes ONE diamond.. Then you can get them all to attack the same. You can also set up tactics to tell each to attack which one you attack..
Edit 2: Yeah, what the one below me says.. lol.. we've syncronized a bit on the reply apparently..

Underneath the portraits, you'll see a pair of icons, one of which looks like four diamonds inside a circle and the other, a little running guy. If you click on the "four diamonds" one, it will become one diamond. When that mode is active, once you attack a target, all of your companions will attack that target and ignore the others. You just have to remember to change targets once the first one is dead.Deynda wrote...

Well I've never used the full party toggle before so I doubt that you need it.

I cant stand setting up tactics and prefer taking the micromanagement route, full party toggle is nice to get all your characters focused on one target, then you can go down the list and select specific abilities.

Party setup is key. There are different approaches to it.
For starters, I'd suggest you setup a character as a Tank (Alistair is built for that intent and you may follow that lead as you develop him). An ideal tank should be a warrior, with the heaviest armor avaliable, Threaten and appropriate Shield defensive talent activated at all times. Move the tank into the bulk of the enemies and use Taunt. From there on, its a management game of alocating your DPS to kill the opposition, and keeping the tank healed.
Definetelly the most efficient way for this is Pausing very often to check how things are going; but setting your tank Tactics to Default / Defender, and adding the instance "Health < 25%, Use Health Poultice" will help out a lot.
Once you have a working tank, its all about how you will engage the battelfield: concentrating damage on a single enemy at a time, using area-of-effect powers or "controling" (via Stuns, Knockdowns, Immobilizing spells) an enemy while finishing off others.
Hope it helped.

You can set tactics for your party members to heal automatically if health drops to 50%. You can have unlimited health poultices if someone in your party has even the first tier of herbalism. All you need is elfroot (unlimited supply in Bercilian Forest and very easy to find) and a flask (you can get them at camp) to make a lesser health poultice. On hard difficulty I make a bunch of these lesser health poultices and get my party members to drink them every time health gets below %75.
You can use tactics to get everyone in your group to always attack the same target. This works well for me. The spell Force Field comes in handy. You can use it on a higher level enemy so that he can't move while you take out the weaker surrounding foes. Or you can use it defensively by getting your tank to taunt and then having your mage put it over him.
If you're a warrior, I'd pick a shield and sword build. Shield Wall is extremely useful for defense.
If you're a mage, cold spells are the best because you can freeze enemies solid and they will shatter if you use a spell like crushing prison over them or one of your warriors scores a critical hit. Mind Blast is a MUST in case you do get surrounded.
I hope this helps and feel free to ask me any specific questions! (I am obsessed lol)

lols MeghanMW.. Me too (obsessed/addicted)
One other thing I noticed is if my others are dying but I'm doing okay.... I can tell them to hold back and I take on the bad guys alone/solo.. Pausing often to use whatever is needed, having Wynn heal me and buff me, having Alistairs buff (the red button with the flexed warrior, forget the name but it's a buff for all party members to increase damage). I also use potions and my fave way of attacking is to go rogue/stealth and sneak up on the guy, bomb him and have him chase me (I keep moving or my rogue will try to slap him with her sword before I'm ready) to where there's more bad guys so I can group them, then I throw 2 bombs (cool down per bomb takes time so I line up 3-4 bombs). Sometimes I never unstealth and still wipe out 10+ guys never recieving any damage (which helps towards one of the achievements as well).
I also like to sneak up and backstab a big guy.. Going for mages first helps, they cast too many spells so you want them out of the way first if possible, or atleast restrained and drained.
Speaking of warrior (MeghanMW mentioned a few tips reminded me), there's 2 things a warrior can do to make surrounding enemies fall down if you added it when you could upgrade..I call that crowd control! LOL

I always try to include a tank, mage, and a DPSer in my squad. I let my mage do all of the healing while my tank and DPS do the damage. I usually make Allistar, Sten, shale, or Oghren a tank, have Lelina, or Zevran be a DPS since both of them are rouges and have backstabbing capabilities. Sometimes I'll use Morrigan as mage DPS. Noramlly I'll use Wyenne as the healer of the group since all of her magic abilities are toward healing.
I've noticed that I seem to stay alive a lot longer when Implement this type of plan rather than throwing a bunch of people together.

I had to make 3 chars in order to find a viable build. Now with my third char that is a mage mainly healer/cc i've started to achieve some results: dying very few times and win combat almost at the first try (bosses exclusion).
i play with Alistair, Sten and Morrigan: Alistair is the main tank, Sten main dps/off tank with taunt skills, Morrigan is a cc (cone of cold, mind explosion, etc...) and sometimes she is offtanking me with her bear form. I use healing and support spells along cc spells like earthquake, petrify and various gliphs.
i try to give you some advices in order to win the game:
1) pause the game during combat alot! you should use the pause in order to do :
micromanagement (placing your chars in the right place at the right time in order to cast
the right spell: i.e placing Morrigan in order to cast Cone of cold without affecting your party
mates)
issue al the possible orders. You can't do this in real time ecept few situations.
2) Hold the control of combat ground at all times. This mean using cc in order to deactivate
most of the foes that are attacking you and use this time in order to focus your attacks possibly
on one mob (4 on 1 or at least 2 on 1)
3) Protect your Mages. If mages dies your party die. use cc along taunt skills in order to drive mobs
away of your spellcasters. Pause the action and move your attacked mage on the back of a
melee char
I hope that this help
Cheers
