Everyone who is anyone in Kirkwall lives in Hightown, and they give little thought to what goes on in Lowtown other than to complain when the wind drags up the stench from its foundries or ancient mines. People in Hightown feel safe, not because the city's walls are impregnable, but because an invader would need to scale the stairs from Lowtown in order to reach them. Many bloody battles have been fought on those narrow stairs, and in several wars Hightown has held out for months after Lowtown was taken. The wealthy often forget, however, that those stairs are also their only escape.

Sounds nice! I wonder who the person is with the circle spike in the second image.

Wow. That looks beautiful. I hope it's realised like this instead of the rather empty but supposedly bustling Denerim Market District.

The concept art is gorgeous and exotic. Kirkwall feels rather medditerrranean in these shots.

I wonder if the staircase we see in the Destiny trailer is one of the staircases from Lowtown to Hightown.

When Lowtown was revealed, I said it reminded me of Old Tarantia's Commons district in Age of Conan. What does this remind me of ? Old Tarantia's Noble district! Good thing I liked good ol' "OT."

Love it. I just hope the in-game Kirkwall captures this concept art.

Will we be barred from entering Hightown at the beginning, seeing as we're poor refugees

I cant really say I care for it. It just doesn't look very interesting.

I was thinking the same thing.  I would enjoy the whole "working your way up from pauper to prince" aspect, but with the time skips, it might play out a little differently.

One day, Shorts, we'll find something you can't relate to Age of Conan. :P

I'm just happy that it looks more populated than Denerim, although I didn't see the concept art for Denerim, and it may have looked just as bustling.

Heh, in the case of Low/Hightown it actually is the similarities I see in the artwork and design.  Most other examples?  That's just me pushing an agenda!

it kind of reminds me of a narrower "praça de S.marco" of Italy and filled with arabian styled bazaars

Noble? As far as I know there has been no mention of the Amell family having any nobility.

i think gaider said the amells were a noble family on the pax live stream when he asked my question (how high or low is hawke's family social standing)

if we had the video i could confirm it.

Edit:
The Amell's are Kirkwall-ian nobility
