Why are the stairs the only escape? Don't they have gnomish dirigibles, or ornathopters, or at least a waterslide?

I support this.

I don't care what anyone says, the names Hightown and Lowtown are poo.

Concept art is pretty though.

Hawke lived in Lothering until it got attacked by darkspawn.

Now Hawke is a refugee.

I have to say, I'm really digging the Kirkwall concept arts and the few screenshots here and there. The city feels like it has a lot of character, and I'm hoping that (unlike Denerim) it'll play a central and vital role to the overall plot.

Reminds me of Florence... from what I've seen in AC2 of course :P And it is indeed beautiful, can't wait to run through those streets with my hawke...

Am I the only one who thinks that guy in white looks like Altair from Assassins Creed. (The buildings kind of look fit for parkour, coincidentally). If DA2 is as beautiful as Assassins Creed, I'll be happy!

This and this. That's what I thought of first too. Seriously, if they can make it look anywhere near as beautfiul as Assassin's Creed 2, I'll be very happy. I mean, Orzammar has majesty and all, but beauty..... nah.

Now that I think about it, I'm amazed at how long AC2 was while still retaining graphics, gameplay, character,.... That was one good game. If they give me a nice deal on the DLC, I might get ACB for the PC.

Oh yeah,

*Obligatory shout-out* Hightown w00t! And yes, the names Hightown and Lowtown convey an absolute lack of imagination.

It does have the Florence AC look, hopefully it's just as big and not another Denerim

Yeah, although I'm interested in what sort of property the family had in Kirkwall (that being the reason they chose to flee there). Will they be living in Lowtown at first, or have an old mansion or something in Hightown that becomes a pseudo base camp?

I would go with them having to start at the bottom (Lowtown) and work their way up, but who knows.

Like Lowtown I think Hightown looks absolutely fantastic in the concept art, I really hope it has the same atmosphere ingame.

Very nice, and a whole lot more livable looking than what we'd seen of the upper city prior to this. I'm betting that staircase has a pivotal plot role. Y'know, one would think that they'd at least build a few secret tunnels....

I vaguely remember some of DA:O's concept art from before it was :o. I don't remember recognizing any of it in the game.

They're convenient and sort of realistic, but I don't much care for that naming tendency myself.

The artistic direction here kind of reminds me of Mirror's Edge.

I only say "kind of" because Kirkawall isn't stark white and the colors aren't very saturated, so there's not nearly as much contrast.

I hope we start in lowtown, going to hightown your first year there seems unrealistic.

I meant it the way of gnomish-like machines, all clunky & unsafe not necessarily actual gnome made machines

Gnomes could exist in game, & you just don't know it;)

My guess is that Gnomes only exist in DA to decorate gardens, perhaps also wearing pointy hats.

Hmm, this concept art looks more like the Lord of the Rings movies more than DA:O did to me. And the art direction of Dragon Age was changed...why?

I'm not diss-ing the artist, it took skill to make these digital renderings. They do seem less unique than the ones in Origins though.

I'm loving the concept art, but when you compare that concept art to the in game shots of Kirkwall, it just doesn't match up. Its the same problem of Origins having great concept art and the in game stuff not holding up its end of the bargain.

Actually, I'd say the in-game Hightown matches the concept art quite closely.

As for those asking how goods are brought up from Lowtown, there's two methods: giant winches (you'll see some of these on the stairs in-game) and the Guild of Porters (ie. on the backs of those poor sods willing to earn a few coppers).

Sounds like a promising career. Where do I sign up?

Is it a flat fee, or do I get paid based on package weight?

Sounds neat. I hope DA2 can push the number of people we can see on screen so can have steady line or porters walking up and down the stairs.

Teehee.  I read that as "giant wenches" at first.

A wench is a woman who pours ale in a tavern....

A-hem, there's no Qunari females in the game!
