Decided to pick up DA:O again and forgot how tedious this quest was. Going back and forth at two locations with this dull atmosphere. Almost makes me wanna... zzzzz. This is going to be a long night.
Anyone else agree?

There's a mod that skips the Fade, I believe.

I loved it the first time through, but on repeat playthroughs it can be a definite drag. Poor console owners. They can't skip the fade and miss out on free gameplay from mods. Well, if you ever change your mind... happiness will be waiting.

Disagrees.

If you hate the Fade in the first place then go back to PvP games and short attention span theater.

If you've just played so many times that it bores you, then you know the entire game well enough that the entire game should bore you IMO. Go do something else.

As a role-playing enthusiast The Fade is great and I hope the game designers continue to utilize models that require travel back and forth between zones. This applies to other aspects of the game as well such as traveling to the Brecilian Forest for "K"s quests, returning to Orzamar for Trial of the Crowes, etc.

Lol, even the devs hated the Fade level. I remember reading an article, or maybe a thread on the forums, that there won't be a level like the Fade in DA2 and promise not to make anything like it again.
You must really be an boring and uninteresting person if you really liked "The Fade".

What makes the Fade dull is the fact you're on your own. Initially it's interesting using the different forms, but the lack of banters and character interaction makes it tedious to repeat. I have been through the game umpteen times without using the mod but I'm starting to think it'd be a good idea.

I can get through it in around an hour, however, which makes it somewhat less tedious than the Deep Roads.

I liked the Deep Roads. Very expansive, cool to explore, and had some life in it. If "The Fade" had a different design but the same concept I could've liked it better. It's the quest itself that I didn't enjoy and yes maybe it was the fact that I had none of my companions with me most of the time.

I think Fade was actually quite good with all the forms ansuch.

It would be better with randomization (i.e. not always the same layout) so you couldn't learn it by heart

I've never found the Fade dull. I just hate it because fighting all those mages by yourself in Mages Asunder is a pain in the arse  :wizard:

Deep Roads has its moments but I hate all the backtracking in Caridin's Cross and I really hate deepstalkers. Ortan Thaig is OK...Dead Trenches is just too long for my own tastes. First time I played on normal (having graduated from easy) I took a pounding and realised I had no injury kits left. All my companions were too busted to take on the Broodmother so I had to go ALLLLLL the way back, (there is no quick way to retreat), through Orzammar and back to camp in order to get enough supplies. Pain in the arse. (Of course that was just the one time, but still).

The main problem I have with the fade is having to go back to areas I've already completed for the stat boosts.

Deep roads is fine as long as you don't bother with the side quests. And make sure you've got plenty of space in your inventory

Ahh, take a chill pill. :) He's complaining about *one* quest that he's not only done before (thus losing it's uniqueness) but has had lots of people complain about in the past to the point there's a mod (for PCers) which skips it entirely. You're welcome to like it, and enjoy it every single time you go through it, but there's no need to puff up your role-playing enthusiast chest and tell someone 'go back to PvP n00b' because they didn't. :P

Thank you for that well-reasoned argument on why you hate getting free content for your game.

Obviously you weren't playing the right mods.

Just re-read my post per your responses. I do sound like an angry little monkey don't I? Oh well. Not every post I make is going to be liked.

I stand by my opinion that The Fade is fantastically done. It does sadden me a bit to read that even the devs hated The Fade . . . I hate to see things like that get cut.

Deep Roads too . . . don't mind backtracking. I think it adds character to the locations, the story, and the game.

*grin* While I don't mind the Fade or the Deep Roads, I admit I get impatient for actual story to happen and NPCs to interact with. Lengthy wanderings with lots of fighting has its place and will always be in RPGs, but I'll never be a fan of long dungeon crawls where I just want the plot to continue (especially when I'm enjoying said plot).

Just different gaming tastes, really. :) Probably why I've only finished the game with two characters...for all that I loved DA:O, the areas that took the longest and I found most tedious put me off replaying.

You know - I guess I have to concede that you and the OP do have a point.  There's only so much a gamer can take.  Everybody has their peeves with repetitive crap.

For me it was World of Warcraft.  The story was taking to long . . . I know a lot of people say that's not what MMOs are about and I got that, but after 3 years of running the same raids 100 times to get the gear to progress a group I was like, "C'moooooonnnnn."

Hence, this game doesn't seem quite so tedious for me.  I built up a tolerance for repetitive bullshyt over on WoW.

But to bring it back to this game - mages.  I can never complete a mage playthrough.  The class just doesn't suit me.  I hear you on the "two characters" thing.

The Fade is boring. Not the quest but the Fade itself. The scenery is miasmal. Even the first time I thought It took forever. An improvement for future games wouldn't hurt. I always save it for last so that I can bolt thru it at lvl 17. The idea behind it was great just not executed properly IMO.

I don't mind the fade so much now that I've played it so many times I can get through it pretty fast. Orzamar and the deep roads though, still takes forever.
