The multiplayer element always seems to detract from the actual game.

I'm not particularly bothered about multiplayer, but I'd prefer it if ME3 were to remain a singleplayer game. Development resources, time and attention wasted creating the multiplayer option could be used to improve the singleplayer to an even greater extent.

Agreed. Mass Effect is a story for only one player. This makes the game unique

Absolutely not. I have no objection about ME themed MP after ME3 has been released and done for, but before that, hell no. They have better use for the resources than dump something that's not needed in ME3.

The only kind of multiplayer I would endorse in ME3 would be cooperative drop in (online or offline) where a second player could take control of, say, Jacob. Time dilation would be frustrating, though.

Im sure the franchise will eventually go multiplayer. For ME3, I highly doubt it. If were told theres multiplayer in ME3 I will probably cry!

Mass effect is already a multi-player game. Shepard is a player, Jacob is a player, Grunt is a krogan player, Thane is a player, Garrus is a player, etc.

thats what im saying i want a freind to be able to drop in as grunt or miranda or legion or etc. and also i said they need to finish the epic singel player then work on a multiplayer doesent anyone listen? and also i think it would be awesome it would work very well  why does everyone hate on multiplayer? also i dont want a damn spin-off i want to be able to play as shepard and have my freinds drop in and out it could go up to three player or if they just do two player that would be bad ass i say bring on the multiplayer for the final part of the trilogy

I don't think anyone here hates multiplayer in general, but it just doesn't fit with an RPG trilogy that has been a completely singleplayer experience.    Don't get me wrong, tearing **** up as Shepard while a friend plays Garrus would be absolutely awesome.  I just don't want to to have ANYTHING to do with Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect was designed as an intimate, immersive, personal experience.  Multiplayer would just kill that.

actually if they did it right it wouldent im not talking about let the second player help decide your choices im talking when you are on a planet or a mission somebody could play as one of your teammates and when you are on your ship they could be in some sourt of waiting lobby so it would still be a personal excperience but someone else would come along for the ride as one of your teammates

I do understand where you're coming from, but it just wouldn't work.  There would still be plenty of arguments over "You picked THAT dialogue option?"  and the second player who waits during the conversation would be bored out of his/her mind.

I like being the star of the show. I don't want someone dropping in and acting as one of my characters... I don't want to hear Grunt saying, "lol! I pwned that dude. Did you see it? It was like, SPWURRRSH!" I like that each character has their own personality, I don't want someone else controlling them.

However, I can see where it would be helpful. My fiance loves Mass Effect, but sucks at playing it. So, I have to play all the combat stuff and then hand the controller over for all the decisions and conversations... which kinda sucks for me. If we could play together, I could be backup and handle most of the fighting while she feels helpful in the mix. I've also got some friends that find the game a bit creepy and have trouble playing it because they are a bit scared. It would be nice to pop in there games and assist them.

But... all-in-all, for my experience, I REALLY don't want people joining my games. Mass Effect is such a personal experience, I don't want multiplayer (whether it be co-op or head2head). If forced into it, I'd be okay with co-op... but I don't want to turn ME3 into Halo. If they want multiplayer, PLEASE save it for ME4.

Obligatory Sten picture time.

Seriously, save the multiplayer for the spinoffs. It's so rare to have an honest-to-God awesome single player game these days. I want to be able to have fun with something by myself, without being screamed at by twelve-year-olds with headsets, thanks.

Leave ME3 alone, focus on finishing Shepard's story. If multiplayer was included then other content would be sacrificed. If they want to do multiplayer I hope its after ME3.

I do not want multiplayer for ME3 for all the previously-listed reasons in addition to these ones:

I happen to live in an area that only has one internet provider. As one would guess, when you're the only IP in town, you feel no obligation to keep your connections constant and stable. The last thing I want is to be playing a game where I'm either constantly pinging in and out or, even worse, when I finally beat the Big Boss, I time out and have to start ALL OVER AGAIN.

For an example, I loved Guild Wars. It was my favorite game...until I started being unable to play it because my internet connection wouldn't stabilize.

Another vote for No Multiplayer For Mass Effect 3 here.

It might be interesting if they explored a Mass Effect MMORPG. The game's universe is large enough that once the Reapers are dealt with, there are always mercenary groups and other wars to be dealt with.

i dont. standalone multiplayer game might be good. but if developers split their time, we might end up getting a bad multiplayer part, and a not so well created single player game in the third episode... i hope they make the third episode how it supposed to be, and then they make a standalone multi game...
