Hack and slash games are light on story and very heavy on combat. In most H&S games today you can dodge, duck, dip, dive, dodge your way out of attacks. Not so with Dragon Age.

Speaking of JRPGs, they tend to have a greater emphasis on tactics than the majority of RPGs and are the most challenging across the board. (The concensus is JRPGS have the hardest boss fights ever).

Also the Bosses tend to be tentacle monsters or androgenous males or androgenous males that turn into tentacle monsters.

@Esbatty

The quality [giant breasts] is weak against the quality [androgyny] and the quality [tentacles]. It is basic Japanese physics.

Oh so I see this thread takes random video game mashups and compares them to Dragon Age 2. Okay I think I can do this - I must use at least half of my ass - no no, all of my ass.

I'm glad I wasn't partaking of this spiked eggnog the moment I read that, or it would be all over my monitor and keyboard.

Glad thats only in correlation to jRPGs and not those full body pillows with anime characters on them. Those kind of scare me in the fact some of them are clearly crying in their various states of undress.

One of the things I gave thanks for this past Thanksgiving was that not a single person who owns one of those pillows will ever, EVER, breed.

EVER.

Yes, i remember fighting one boss in star ocean: till the end of time for PS2 for about 2 hours and then realised that i could not win, i needed a specialised power that i seam to have missed.

Soon fixed that but it still took me at least 15 minutes to win, and that was an average boss fight.

Why is everyone assuming I'm talking about Hack N' Slash games. I said JRPG's & I meant JRPG's

People are assuming that you're talking about hack and slash because that seems to be one of the OP's issue. After all, "JRPG elements" is a fairly vague phrase.

What were you referring to?

Regarding the OP, and others like it: Yes! Because the console version of DA:2 allows you to do a basic attack at the push of a button, and the animations are more flashy and aggressive the ENTIRE GAME HAS CHANGED GENRES!

Hack and slash gameplay is not an JRPG element. Diablo was the first 'hack and slash' RPG. If you're taking about characters wearing one outfit... there's already a thread about that, yes?

Rogue says hi. (Diablo and all of its ilk descend from Rogue)

Rogue wasn't a hack and slash game. It wasn't real time. Your character had to do things like find food to eat.

Marketing would have us believe as much.

As far as Bioware's marketing is concerned they've never made anything other than action RPGs.  Needless to say, I don't pay too much attention to their use of that label.

Marketing has said that the game is flashy and cool and awesome. You think like a general and fight like a Spartan. Push a button and something awesome happens.

The fans have heard, "We've completely changed the game so it's no longer an RPG," but that's never something marketing has said or implied. In fact, in almost every interview we've seen or heard, they've said that the game retains its tactical nature. People just ignore that part.

While I'm at it, bootlegged videos of people playing the console version at cons is not 'marketing,' and that is what the OP is basing his opinions on.

It has elements from them. Alot of them (from what i've seen anyway). I never implied it was turn based.

List those elements, and why they supposedly suggest a DMC/FF rip off so that we can more accuratly debate your statement.

The game is still being touted as an action RPG and that label is still inaccurate. I choose to believe that's marketing and not the collective BioWare team having no concept of game genres.

Say, isn't it way past your bedtime?

Why does everyone attack the TC and turn this into a joke thread? This is the worst forum I've seen.

Because the TC made a statement that they have yet to provide any supporting evidence for, in an attempt to deride a game they've yet to play. A game by a company with a track record for superior work, excellent story writing and and fantastic characters. Worse off the tc compares this company's product to a Spectacle fighter, and an extremly linear (in recent years) JRPG.

The TC brought it on themselves.
