Take a look here: http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=392

This is the more hairstyles mod. Many of them are equally outrageous, and JRPG like. One is particularly reminiscent of Soul Calibur.

There are plenty of mods like that for Oblivion and FO3. I hate those.

I have seen about three people from the game.

And dude, the JRPG style is obvious.

Just look at the trailer. In DA:O the darkspawn looked like Orcs from LOTR.

Now they look like this

The darkspawn look like the guy from Legend, and therefore it's JRPG style?

That looks like a Diablo picture, first of all.

Second of all, here are our original darkspawn:

Here is a zombie.

I'm not seeing how darkpawn represent any RPG change or anything other than a switch away from zombies.

It feels like a JRPG because the companions looks don't change unless for story reasons, & the way their equipment is handled is similar, I grouped them together this way to show the Companion/ Companion Equipment, I'm not necessarily talking about Hawke's equipment. The two hander are not too long, they are too broad, a zweihander or Swiss Long Sword is about 5-6ft long but no broader than any other sword.

A trait of both Hack N' Slash & JRPGs are flipply ninja/thiefs in skirts jumping around doing lots of damage & taking lots of damage.

Where have you seen Darkspawn that looks like that?

I don't like how the darkspawn look in either game, really.

The point is that (a) the audience seems to like hair like this and (B) it is not JRPG exclusive.

Speaking of which, here is an example of a RPG character:

Notice the spiky hair and phallic sword.

Notice the lack of any real armor & the overly complex & heavy sword

The interesting thing about all these threads, at least when it comes to combat, UI, perhaps mechanics etc is that Bioware can easily eliminate them (or reinforce them, who know) by simply releasing some kind of PC gameplay footage. It really is as simple as that. The fact that they haven't done so yet, is also interesting in itself and until they do, speculation (in one direction or the other) will thrive.

Because this isn't an overly complex & heavy sword?

As for the lack of real armour - just what do you call all the metal stuff covering his vital points?

Vital points don't include kidneys? That "armor" is thiner than paper mache & I'm here arguing that Bioware needs to fix the two hander, or are you not paying attention?

I think In Exile's point regarding the two-hander was that they were overly complex and heavy in Origins as well. And they were.

First of all, companion equipment does NOT work any different to Hawke's. It is only their outfit that isn't changable by the player, by that logic is ME2 a JRPG?

The two handers really don't look any longer than Origins two handers.

It is not a trait of hack n slash and JRPG's (you DO realise that they are often very different games in their own right, yeah?) to have ninjas/thieves (nice lumping together of two different character types) either, and where it is present it is in a much more exaggerated fashion. You honestly think having one backflip ability on cooldown relates to DMC where you can jump at any time and juggle an enemy in the air numerous times at unbelievable heights? The exaggeration here is off the chart. Plus both Western RPG's and JRPG's have been known to take liberties with armor depiction in games, it's a trope a lot of fantasy is guilty of.

This is crazy. You have one example of a hairstyle which isn't 'normal' and it is that of a shapeshifting demon/abomination/witch woman. In the case of a JRPG the first character to get the crazy hair treatment would be the protagonist. Meanwhile you link to a picture that looks nothing like the new Darkspawn, and evokes a more Western feel anyway. The Darkspawn look might not be to everyones tastes (I don't like it anymore than the previous iteration myself) but it still sticks with the 'demonic zombie human' look they were going for.

Again, the swords were the same size in DA:O. It's not a "new" thing. It's still annoying to me, but it's not part of DA:2's changes in art style.

I know. I didn't like them in DA:O either. And the mauls were just gigantic, good grief.

A lot of things are changed in the artstyle. I don't know if it's JRPG or not but a lot of things are changed.

What about Ninja Gaidan, FF13 et al? Because they had flips in them or something? FF13 and the like have barely anything in common with what we've seen of DA2... And a 3 minute clip of Ninja Gaidan gameplay looks nothing like DA2, nor does it play like it (I'm rubbish and don't enjoy games like NG whereas I happily played as a rogue in DA2 without once thinking 'ugh this reminds me of that game I don't like').

Well at least daggers come in normal sizes now, but I guess since every one handed blade is now classified as a dagger, that doesn't mean much.

What would solve this would be some new gameplay footage. But clearly, I don't think that's in the plan for us right now.

I'm betting we'll see some things before the time runs out on the Signature Edition.

I'm hoping so.  I'd like to pre-order, personally, but really, until I see some footage that I like, I can't bring myself to do it.

Exactly.  All we're working on is some concept art pictures, some trailers - which, as you recall from DAO, don't necesarily represent actual game actions, whether cut-scene or anything else - and leaked gameplay footage from the 'exagerated combat' section.  Oh, and comments like 'samurai-hot-rod', 'think like a general fight like a spartan', 'press a button something awesome happens', and things like 'streamlined'.

The visuals that we've seen lead only to questions and speculation, the slogans really answer no questions, and that leaves us arguing as we have been:  "the changes suck" v. "the changes are great".  Showing us those changes in the game would solve the speculation, and allow people to decide whether they like it or not.

Ah yes, the "DA:2 is going to turn into a JRPG" argument.

We have dismissed this claim.

Hack and slash games are light on story and very heavy on combat. In most H&S games today you can dodge, duck, dip, dive, dodge your way out of attacks. Not so with Dragon Age.

Speaking of JRPGs, they tend to have a greater emphasis on tactics than the majority of RPGs and are the most challenging across the board. (The concensus is JRPGS have the hardest boss fights ever).

Not necessarily.

Diablo, for example, has a really elaborate back story.  Problem is, nobody really seems to care about it.
