Im guessing that in following the pattern with rogue specs, we'll get 2 origins specs and 1 awakening spec.
For mages id like to see Blood Mage, Shapeshifter and Keeper for the last. I see Spirit Healers and Battlemages very Circle influenced. For the Keeper spec id like to see nature magic (stinging swarm and plant spells) and healing spells for the cleric style players.Posted Image

And fail miserabley.  I'll go hunting for it in a bit...

From what I've heard, the sword staffs do no more damage in melee range than they do from 40 yards away, and just have their blade for show.  They indicates that mages ARE NOT meant to be in melee range, no matter what.

While it is true the basic melee staff attack doesn't do any more damage than a basic ranged attack, we can only presume at this point that it means there is no way for Magi to become reasonable in melee. It does seem likely that a pure Mage/warrior hybrid like the AW has gone, however we can't rule out spells, specs or other abilities that add survivability or utility to a Mage fighting in close quarters.

So all in all I havn't ruled out the possibility of an encounter like the Destiny trailer (if, obviously, not exact) where a Mage Hawke holds his or her own before pulling out a bit of Blood Magic (or other powerful magic) and winning.

If we get ME2's cluster**** upgrade system in place of inventory, I'm blaming you.

I'm also blaming you if the camera focuses on Isabella's "features" for every scene she's in.

Just in case you weren't sure we are definitely getting a DAO style inventory, it's been seen in screenshots. There was even the 'junk' section. Hawke's inventory is identical to Origins minus the ammo slot, and companions are identical to Origins minus (infamously) the various standard outfit/armor slots.

I presume you are referring to Miranda re: Isabela? The Miranda thing has been blown massively out of proportion, there are like a few angles that are silly, while others are designed to show offer her features/sexuality purposefully and they work well. I would have no problem with a camera angle that showed of Isabela's body or what have you so long as it suited the scene.

Well, if they do get the Battle Mage Specialization in DA 2.
I think that it will concentrate more on the close quarters combat, and will replace the Arcane Warrior.
That's my thought anyway.

Haha I love those titles. :D Mmm coffee is good, especially at 3 in the morning when I have an unfinished assignment due the next day. Or on a cold winters day when you are stuck waiting for a train. Lifesaver.

Do you think the Shapeshifter specialization is coming back? And if it is, who will teach you?
When you are Dalish and you talk to Morrigan about the Shapeshifter specialization, you have the option of saying that your people (the Dalish) posess similair magic. So maybe a Dalish mage will teach you?

The podcasts on the bioware blog site give some clues to specs.

I think that they added a unique spec path to each companion; that's a plus.

The spec paths were described as more circular than linear; as in, you dont have to take as many powers you will never use to get the ones you want.

It all sounds great to me, and I would reccomend checking out the podcasts.

As long as Templar is still a specialization I'll be happy. :)

Maybe this is a bit of a dumb question but I heard somewhere that not all Specializations where coming back.
For example, I heard the Rogues had Bard, Duelist, Ranger and the Shadow Specialization from Awakening. Meaning that Assassin and Legion of the Dead scout where dropped.Of course it could just be a rumor, but still...

And my second question is: If they really did drop some Specializations, do you think we get some new ones? I mean I'm kind of crazy about Rogues, and I heard they will be more ninja and acrobatic like. Now, they are like this in general but do you think there is a new class that focuses on it, like acrobat.

What are your thoughts on this?

I play a rogue all the time myself and really enjoy being a rogue.  I use Shadow all the time in Awakenings as well.  I'd hate to see that heartseeker talent taken away.  I love that talent and I hope it's not gone for rogues.   I'm wondering if we'll be able to use Isabela's swashbuckling talent....have the opportunity to learn this spec.

I really liked all of the specializations in DAO and DAA.  I didn't see the need to change them just tweet them alittle.  I always give Howe the ranger spec when playing DAA.  I would agree they took to long to cast.   I felt all of these spec's gave us the ability to build our parties how we choose.  It appears this won't be the case with DA2 or I'm not understanding fully on how the new spec would work.

The only thing I wanted to see on the pc version was something done with the quickbar, because after DAA you were left with no room.  I would have liked to seen the quick bar changed similar to how a character can swap their weapon sets and you get two quick bars.

Companion specs are supposed to be unique, so I doubt you'll be able to learn them.

I wouldn't be suprised is some were left out since "streamlining" seems to be the name of the game. If Shapeshifter makes it back for mages I hope it is greatly improved.

This a 10000000000+ times. I like melee but I don't like being yet another dagger wielding doofus. I play a feral in WoW and nothing else in any other games has come even close to running around as a kitty cat biting people on their arse. Or bashing their heads in as a punk rock bear.

When DA had shapeshifter in it, I was like HELL YEA! but oh well...it was more than just a little useless. At least the spider form looked funny when running around...

Shapeshifter had it's uses. Swarm form moved extremely fast and made the game a lot shorter. :P

I'm hoping though that they removed Arcane Warrior, if I wanted to be a melee class I would've made one.

Awww Dave, don't be a party pooper.  If I play as a mage, I play as an Arcane Warrior or turn Morrigan and Wynne into one.  Anders is always a battlemage and Arcane Warrior in my playthroughs.

Anyone ever change Anders into Shapeshifter, or Velana for that matter?

Well with staffs that are now for melee combat, think what they could do with Arcane warrior.

Exactly.

The only thing I can figure is that different nations that we'll enter throughtout Thedas will have their own unique ways of fighting.

Yes didn't Mike Laidlaw talk about that?
That Isabella was a Swashbuckler because it was the optimal fighting style for her being a pirate and all.

I do that all the time with Velanna, in addition to her Keeper and Spirit Healer. It kind of adds to her "druid" feel. Pity I don't actually use it, though. Not unless for laughs.

The article I saw said that Rogue's get Shadow, Assasin, and Duelist. I'm all for reducing the amount of specializations if that means that we get significantly deeper and better specialization paths.

No spec for archery again?!  (Unless Shadow is some kind of sneaky sniper spec.)  LAME.

Well, you always got 4 Specializations in DA:O and DA:O-Awakening.
Maybe we get 3 known Specializations and a new one?

I think the Warrior specs are pretty much gonna be Berserker, Champion, and Templar, and Mage is gonna be Bloodmage, Spirit Healer, and.... maybe Battle Mage. I just hope when my Hawke goes Bloodmage people actually acknowledges it. I want people cowering in fear and sending Templars after me!

I really want this too!
When you picked Blood Mage I think the only one complaining was Wynne, but there weren't any civialins cowering in fear like I wanted to. But I hope they made it so whit Blood Mage, that you can summon Demons! There where some NPC Blood Mages who could like the Hermit in the Brecillian Forest, and Avernus also summoned Demons in a cut-scene.

Summoning demons would be kick ass. That and I hope bloodmages can have a "persuade" option by going into certain NPC's dreams. :D

Given that it's Bioware, and we all know 30% of the game is going to be dialogue. Another way they could make specs feel more meaningful is to offer specialization specific dialogue options, or even specialization specific quests/ways to resolve quests. For example, even though blood mage was one of the more useful specs in DAO, and I used it's abilities all the time while fighting, it still didn't make me feel very "blood magey". It had no impact on the large part of the game that wasn't combat oriented in other words.

Very good point. I played a blood-mage, and it kinda bothered me that there weren't any consequences or even new dialogue options based on that choice. Even stranger was the fact that you could turn Wynne into a blood-mage, how does that even make sense? considering how she felt about blood-magic.

Agreed, you absolutely shouldn't be able to give specializations to NPCs that they find reprehensible, and using those skills yourself shoud be a serious issue with those characters. The problem is, when you do that, people complain about being punished for their choices, although I just see it as a logical consequence. Still, it would be an issue. If they couldn't romance a character that they wanted too because they took a specialization, there's be a lot of resentment. Maybe if the relationship could progress to a certain point, then use of the skills they abhor created a crisis in which it either ended, or they convinced the PC to give it up....
