Is there any way to make a Bard class interesting, though?  It was just some sustainables in DA:O, unless you went the Captivating Song route (and why would you?).  I like the idea of a Bard just fine, especially with the espionage flavor that DA:O described.  Yet Bards in DA:O didn't play anything like spies or secret agents.  Then again, I didn't find any of the specializations all that well executed in DA:O.

Spirit Healer was amazing, and the Templar specialization was an excellent choice for tanking builds. I never found cleanse area to be all that beneficial, but Holy Smite was too great of an ability to pass up.

Plenty of them had effective skills, I just thought they were too limited.  A Spirit Healer didn't end up playing all that much differently from a Blood Mage.  I guess I would like it if the specializations dramatically changed the way your character functioned in combat.  What little I've heard about specializations in DA2 seems to hint that they will be a bigger deal than before.

The warrior specs are probably Templar (since they prob play a huge part of the story), Champion (Cause YOU the champ!) and... something that is more 'magical' maybe spirit warrior (revamped) maybe reaver (I likey).

I didn't use it a lot but when I did, captivating song seemed like some pretty awesome crowd control.

Ok, but it's impractical to devote an entire character to that when you could produce the same effects with a Mage and not cripple your build in the process.

I'm not sure about crippling your build. 2 of the other 3 talents were useful.

I think Blood mage, Arcane Warrior, Spirit Healer, Ranger, Assassin, Bard, Beserker and Champion all had effective talents...in some cases too effective. Templar allowed you to wear good special armour. Reaver and Shapechanger had good flavour but were poorly implemented. Duelist was a bit average but just the passive was OK.

But to get any use out of the skill you need to shut down your Rogue completely in combat.  Shapeshifting is useless (or at least underpowered) for largely the same reason.

I'm not arguing that the talents and spells offered by specializations were ineffective or weak.  Many of them were quite powerful.  I just never felt like I was really playing a Bard or whatever.  I felt like I was playing a Rogue with an extra skill or two on the side.  If that's what you want from specializations, great.  It lets you keep the core flavor of the class intact.  I'd just prefer it to change my playstyle more dramatically.

Maybe if they completely rework the specialization; it was completely broken in Origins.

I think Reaver should be the "dark knight" counterpart to the "white knight" Templar.

just like Blood Mage is the "dark art" to Spirit Healer's healing art........

IMHO it will be Templar, Champion and Guardian. The specialisations appear to be keyed to your NPCs talents like in DAO. Because we won't see a reaver we won't get it, likewise spirit warrior, and we don't get bard or shapechanger because we don't run across anyone with those abilities.

Maybe if Reaver wasn't crap.. For a class thats gained by drinking dragon blood its not that impressive.

You also aren't running into a shadow to teach you shadow or an antivan crow to teach you assassin.  It was also confirmed with Isabela's swashbuckler that companions are going to have their own "specializations" that are unique to them.  There is no reason to believe that team mates will determine which specializations are available to Hawke.

That said, you picked three goody two shoes specs.  There has to be at least one badass one like Berserker or Reaver or that would be no fun.

The Reaver is an interesting class, and I think it has promise.  The game mechanics of DA:O just don't work well with abilities that depend on the user being near death, though.  HP pools (and resource pools) were too low.  It takes a ton of micromanaging to make something like that work, and the rewards aren't really worth it.

My bet is still on Champion, Berserker and Templar(with spirit warrior abilities added).

Yeah but in Dragon Age  the templars are hardly "The Knight in Shining Armor" like the chantry would like you to beleive.

Regardless i actually wouldnt be supised if templars specialization is removed. Instead maybe for an anti magic warrior we got the lyrium tempered Fenris instead.

I always saw Varric as a Bard...Don't know why though.
But I'm pretty sure Bard isn't a Spec in Dragon Age 2.

Companions all have a unique specialization so some may be returning. Merrill's specialization mixes some blood magic with the DA1 keeper spells (and possibly new keeper spells) so I'm sure that some specs will be back but they'll only be for NPCs.

So far what we have comfirmed are the rogue specs (shadow, duelist and assassin) and the mage specs (force mage, blood mage and spirit healer) and one of the warrior specs is either guardian, berzerker or champion.

Excellent ideas! I'd love to see Keeper and Spirit Warrior return, especially because Merrill ought to be able to teach you Keeper stuff.Posted Image

I always thought you might be able to learn Reaver the same way as Blood Magic and Spirit Warrior the same way as Spirit Healer, because of the similarities in style (like how Reaver/Blood Mage originates from demons/blood and Spirit Warrior/Healer is powered by benevolent Fade spirits). I imagine they'd lose Reaver and Spirit Warrior in favour of the specs you suggested though, because of the whole 'making classes more unique' thing.

Has there been any news at all about the Warrior Specializations?

I plan to start 3 playthroughs at once, and since I already heard about the Rogue and Mage specializations getting some more on the Warriors would be good too. Personally I hope we get Champion, Templar and Spirit Warrior, but that's mostly because I like them. I wouldn't mind some new Specializations either.

So far for mage and Rogue 3 Specializations have been anounced.

Rogue:
  • Shadow
  • Assassin
  • Duelist
Mage:
  • Force Mage
  • Blood Mage
  • Spirit Healer
But nothing for Warrior yet.
Also, are we sure that each class gets three Specialization? I mean, Origins had four.
But maybe they are concentrating more on skills and abillities for specializations....That would be nice.
