I grew up in a border town (Detroit, just north of Windsor, ON, CA) watching hockey night in canada and having pals on both sides of the tunnel. There is such a thing as a canadian accent, but it's not a huge difference from the neutral detroit-chicago "newscaster" accent. Down to vowels, mostly, and the odd bit of vocabulary (I have never ever ever heard an american say "toque" or "zed" for example)

The answer is Yes. Some of the voice actors have obvious canadian accents. To me the most obvious is the Capt. Bailey on the Citadel. If that dude isn't canadian, I'll eat my targeting visor. The first time I heard him I thought "oh, that's right. they're straight outta edmonton".

jump to 3:15 or so. "protesters...zones...poodles"

And the reason they're not all dropping "eh?"s all over the place is that they're reading from a script.

As for Quarians, I always thought they sounded persian.

jumpsuits are big in slavic culture???

They're supposed to be vaguely gypsy-like, I get that, but a gypsy accents vary a lot. I see what you're saying, saying they sound vaguely slavic. They sort of do. But persian is a better match. I'm a decent sort however, and am willing to compromise. Can we split the difference and agree they sound a bit turkic?:D

Meh, I'm tired. And fashion is oh so not my thing. If I had my way i'd wear a wooden beer keg with shoulder traps. Gives them polar bears easy access though, not recomended.

The accented Quarians have Iranian voice actors.

Shohreh Aghdashloo is the only Iranian doing an Iranian accent as far as I know. Liz Sroka plays Tali using a fake accent. And Mark Meer plays Veetor and the captain of the Rayya using another fake accent. None of these accents match. But Shohreh Aghdashloo sounds especially distinct from everyone else. She sounds nothing like Liz or Mark.

From ME1... "Decontamination in progress."

"Progress" has a distinct Canadian pronunciation.

Is Jennifer Hale Canadian?  Because that's her doing the ship VI.

I notice the different dialect with some of the npcs that are regular voice over actors with Bioware.  Some of them are Canadian, naturally, but not all of them.  They hire actors from LA too (or NY or wherever they do their  US voice recording).

I do love Mark Meer's pronunciation of some words though.  "About" isn't "Aboot" but it's definitely not "Abowt" either.  It's kind of in between.  And "Resources" is "reSOURCes" rather than "REsources" and "again" is "aGAYNE" instead of "aGENN."  Generally speaking I find he sounds the same as most US folks until he pronounces certain words.

RE:  The Quarians.  There is certainly no regular accent.  Simon Templeman and Claudia Black clearly use their British dialect, Tali sounds almost Russian and still Reeger sounds like a good old boy from somewhere in Tennessee.

Maybe it's because I live in Washington, just south of Canada, but I don't notice any accent.  I don't even know a Canadian Accent is supposed to sound like.

as an edmontonian myself i have never noticed an accent in this game, having said that ive never noticed americans as having accents either unless its like the boston or southern accents. i watch american tv and movies and it sounds normal to me.

also as a few others have said in my years of edmonton vancouver and sask (very young) i have NEVER heard someone say aboot, its one of those things say a lie enough and its true. its something canadians say as a joke mocking ourselves. just like we say "eh" but not in the retarded manner most americans think we do.

"pretty sweet movie eh" is an example of me hearing other canadians say eh

Most (all?) of you are wrong, it's a-BOAT, not a boot. Also, "been" is pronounced "bean". I have been a fan of LoadingReadyRun (and listening to their podcasts) for far too long to let it slide.

Canandian accent test:
Sorry, have you been about Canada, eh?

is rendered:
Sory, have you bean a boat Canada, eh?

being and englishman living in astralia, having travelled about, the way i have always told the difference between canadians and americans, is Canadians pronounce things softer, whilst americans are allot harsher on their a's and 'ers'. Americans are typically louder from my experiance.

Short and long E sounds.

BEE-n (as in BEE sting) vs. be-N (as in BENjamin)

Also, "out" is more like "oote", as in commUTer.
